In this episode Dr. Samantha C. Johnson from The Layman's Doctor speaks with Dr. Sulaiman Tijani in another instalment of 'The Medical Doctor's Journey: Non- Traditional Pathways' about his journey to becoming a fellow in pulmonary and critical care medicine. Dr. Tijani decided to do USMLE after practicing cardiothoracic surgery at National Chest Hospital for several years. After several attempts at matching, he finally matched into Internal Medicine the same year he got accepted into the cardiothoracic surgery at the University of the West Indies and had a decision to made. He ultimately decided to pursue Internal Medicine in the US and doesn't regret it. He gives both tips and lessons on how to optimise your possibility of matching on your first go and valuable advice if you're not successful on the first try.

In 2021 the risk of unemployment for Senior House Officers whose contracts came to an end pushed him to open Tawah, a Trinidadian restaurant serving authentic and popular Trinidadian street food in Jamaica.
