Championship Mindset with Dr. Amber Selking

Championship Mindset with Dr. Amber Selking

When Amber Selking steps onto the field, she doesn't just see the game; she sees the potential for mental metamorphosis. This episode of the One Big Thing podcast is like sitting down with a dear friend who happens to be a whiz at applied sports psychology and understanding the intricate dance between mindset, performance, and faith. Amber's journey from the soccer fields of Notre Dame to a corporate career and back to the sports arena, armed with a Ph.D. and a bible, provides a striking backdrop for a conversation that entwines the discipline of athletes with the daily hurdles we all face.

As someone who has felt the sting of an ACL injury and the identity shifts that come with life's great upheavals, I've learned that resilience isn't just for the playing field—it's for parenting, business, and personal growth. Together with Amber, we discuss the unspoken challenges of mental health in a world where social media often blurs the lines between seeking help and seeking attention. We share stories, laugh about the messiness of family life, and explore the Mental Performance Playbook she devised to tackle emotional control—a skill that's not just for athletes but for everyone who's ever lost their cool when life threw a curveball.

This conversation isn't just about finding balance; it's about finding purpose in the chaos and joy in the journey. We touch on the importance of aligning actions with values, the transformative practice of incremental improvement, and the art of pressing pause to appreciate the present. If you're ready to reframe your thinking and level up your mental fitness, let this heart-to-heart with Dr. Amber Selking be your guide. We're peeling back the layers of mental health, performance, and personal fulfillment.

Life After Sugar with Netta Gorman

Life After Sugar with Netta Gorman

What happens when you decide to say goodbye to sugar? Meet Netta Gorman, a sugar-free lifestyle coach from Quebec, Canada, who walks us down the path of a life transformed by a sugar-free diet. From sharing her personal journey of the positive changes she experienced - physically and mentally - by eliminating sugar and flour, to discussing the practical aspects of making such dietary shifts, Netta offers a wealth of insights. But, this isn't just a conversation about diet; it's about reshaping our beliefs about food and cultivating a mindset that sets us free.

Moving beyond the health benefits, we explore the profound effects of a sugar-free lifestyle on overall wellbeing. We discuss the importance of mindfulness, positive mindsets, and how reducing sugar intake can liberate us in more ways than one. As we wrap up our insightful conversation, we touch on practical challenges - family preferences, meal prepping, and children's nutrition. We also highlight the power of intermittent fasting and the benefits of embracing a wholesome approach to food.

This is a journey of transformation that invites us to take charge of our bodies and our minds.

    ___________________________________________________________

    About Netta Gorman

I'm Netta, and I know what it's like to feel like you can't control your cravings. Up until my mid-40s, my weight kept creeping up, and I wondered: "Will I ever feel in control around food?"

I also started to struggle with constipation, joint pain, relentless fatigue, headaches, and uncomfortable bloating. I felt hopeless.

When I was 45, I decided to take matters into my own hands and try something I'd never tried before. My dream was to get rid of my cravings, fit easily into my clothes, live pain-free and bloat-free, and get my energy back.

But I didn't know how. One day my brother told me about a nutritional therapist he worked with, so I took a chance and met with her. She suggested I cut sugar, flour and all sweeteners for two weeks.

So I decided to cut sugar, sweeteners, and flour. I was so blown away by my results that I decided to mentor and guide midlife women through the same transformation that I had experienced.

Today, I teach women over 50 how to ditch cravings so that they can slim down and finally feel in control around food.

    Cultivating Faithfulness with Peter Englert

Ever thought about the role of faithfulness in your life's journey or how life's disruptions could actually lead to personal growth? These are the questions we tackle headfirst on my latest episode, asking the big questions and seeking answers through compelling conversations. We sit down with Peter Englert, a pastor and podcast host who shares his journey from his upbringing in Endicott, New York, to his current role as a family man and Pastor at Browncroft Church in Rochester, New York. He sheds light on his podcast, 'Why God, Why?', where he explores the most profound questions many of us grapple with.

Peter talks extensively about his experience with this concept of faithfulness - or what many would deem consistency. His conversation centers on trust issues and how to build faithfulness in relationships, both at home and in the workplace. We explore key strategies for navigating digital communication, emphasizing the importance of timely responses and acknowledgment to build trust and credibility.

Finally, we delve into the importance of setting boundaries, confronting issues, and fostering healthy relationships. Navigating relationship challenges, understanding others' perspectives, and recognizing 'values violations' are central to our discussions. We explore effective communication strategies for resolving conflict and managing expectations. We wrap up by discussing the importance of feedback and support, highlighting the value of honesty and transparency in all interactions. Listen in as we journey together through faithfulness, setbacks, and personal growth.

Recap and Reflections: Highlights from the OBT's first five guests

Recap and Reflections: Highlights from the OBT's first five guests

🎉 It's my 37th birthday, and there's no better way to celebrate than to reflect on the nuggets of wisdom and the compelling stories shared by our guests so far!

My wife, Stephanie, and I kicked things off by sharing our journey through the laughters, tears, and breakthroughs that have defined our marriage and parenting. We gave you a front-row seat to our world, and I hope that our candid conversations on clear communication, honoring our spouses, and raising children have provided some valuable insights for you.

Rachel Jenks took us on a fascinating journey from being a ballerina to a marketer and then to an advocate for children affected by trafficking. We've learned that our identities are not defined by our professions, and Rachel's story is a true testament to that belief. We also got some practical tips on managing our emotions, unplugging to recharge, and journaling. The need to unplug and recharge has never been more critical than it is today, and I hope that Rachel's advice has helped you find peace in the midst of chaos.

Bret Magpiong, Amazon Bestseller, life coach and consultant, walked us through a framework for coming fully alive and living on purpose. He shared about the three P's - passions, principles and priorities and how when we multiple these three by E or effort - we can throw gasoline on life! But, without identifying and acknowledging our failures, we are missing a major compontent to finding our purpose. These ingredients, when mixed together, give us all a simple to follow framework for truly living on purpose, with purpose.

We were also enlightened by the inspiring story of resilience from our first international guest, Bradley Rose. The Peloton instructor shared his riveting journey of surviving a stroke in his 30s and turning setbacks into setups. Bradley's resilience and positive attitude towards adversity are truly inspiring, and I'm sure his story has resonated with many of you.

James Stagnitta, 2x Premier Lacrosse League Championship winning coach, broke down a champions journey and provided invaluable insights into leadership and how we can all be better in connecting with those under your care. His framework of asking questions, staying humble and developing empathy are an easy-to-follow framework any of us can follow to win with people. But he affirms over and over that our lives can be judged on wins and loses - but has to be based on how we lead by example and quality of our followers.

As we look back at these episodes, I express my profound gratitude to all our listeners for joining us on this journey. And as a birthday treat, I'm inviting everyone to check out my other podcast, Ditch the Suits, which has been recognized as one of the best podcas
