39 Reiki: Demystifying the moon, reoccurring numbers (re-release of episode 1)

39 Reiki: Demystifying the moon, reoccurring numbers (re-release of episode 1)

This week we aren't releasing a new ep. It is Arthur's third birthday today (28 Feb) - happy birthday sweet prince 🩵.  Steph is taking the week off to be with Huw, Fred and Fritz and we are re-releasing our first ever episode.
And do you know the funny thing? In this episode we talk about reoccuring  numbers and this ep is season 2 episode 22 - 222! And the episode length is 44:41 (we’ll just ignore the 1). No tampering or tinkering done by us! We hope you enjoy x

    _____

Welcome to our first ever episode of The Selfish Podcast with Chloe & Steph! We introduce you to Chloe & Steph, two thirty-somethings living by the coast and looking to heal their mind, body & soul. They both come from very different perspectives: Chloe is a lifelong learner wanting to better herself. Steph’s newborn son died two years ago and she is trying to rebuild.

In this episode we demystify Reiki (21:54), taking you through the before, during and after of a session.  Steph discovers a past life, Chloe breaks down the moon effects and the girls talk reoccuring numbers (11:11, 2:22) , oracle cards and nerves.

    What is Reiki?
Reiki is an energy healing technique in which a Reiki practitioner (who has undergone formal training in this healing art) uses gentle hand movements with the intention to guide the flow of healthy energy (what's known in Reiki as life force energy) through the client's body to reduce stress and promote healing.

    Other things discussed:

    • Tarot Cards

Dreamy Moons Tarot by Annie Tarasova

Major Arcana - 22 individual cards. Each card stands for a stage on that journey. These cards hold great energetic messages and spiritual power.

Minor Arcana - four suits, important and more likely to guide through everyday life events.

37 Amelia Davatzis: On low tox living plus bringing back the romance to Valentine's Day (part one)

37 Amelia Davatzis: On low tox living plus bringing back the romance to Valentine's Day (part one)

This week Chloe & Steph chat to Amelia Davatzis (22:00), also known as a glimpse of Amelia,  a product reviewer-brand researcher-home detoxer-dot connector who is inspiring us & guiding us to a healthier, lower tox life.

Before we spoke to Amelia we shared some reflections and feedback from last week's only child chat, discuss Valentine's day (is romance dead?) and give you your weekly astro update and card pull guidance.

    - Chloe and Steph's perspectives on Valentine's Day and how it can be reframed as a day to focus on self-care, romance, and loved ones beyond just romantic partners.

    - Suggestions they shared for showing love through acts of service, quality time, physical touch, and gifts based on each person's love languages.

    - An astrological overview from Chloe about the lunar new year, new moon in Aquarius, Mars and Venus entering Aquarius in February, and how these influence relationships and emotions.

Some key takeaways from part one of our chat with Amelia include:

    - It's never about the brand, It's always about the ingredients

    - It's not about being perfect, its about small changes you can make throughout your day that can make a big difference overall.

    - Amelia's experience starting a low-tox Instagram page during the pandemic as an outlet and how it grew a community interested in her knowledge and guidance.

    - Specific toxic chemicals like BPA, phthalates, Teflon, and "forever chemicals" that accumulate in the body.

    - Tips for reducing mold like using vinegar or clove oil instead of bleach, finding moisture sources, and proper ventilation.

    - The importance of informed choices and accessibility of information.

    - Tips for reducing toxins through water filtration, choosing eco-friendly cleaning and personal care products, avoiding plastic where possible, and properly removing mold.

    - Reducing endocrine disruptors by avoiding plastic where regularly used and making homes safe spaces was a priority.

32 2024 Vision & Intentions (no more resolutions), the holidays & Steph’s skin journey

32 2024 Vision & Intentions (no more resolutions), the holidays & Steph’s skin journey

The girls are back. In their first episode for 2024, Chloe and Steph discuss setting intentions and (not) resolutions for the new year. Chloe shares her intention setting process, which involves envisioning what you want your life to look like at the end of 2024, focusing on feelings.

They then identify key themes or areas of focus from their vision and make action plans for how to achieve those intentions over the course of the year through small, incremental steps. Chloe's themes were abundance, love, adventure, and nourishment. Steph is still deciding on her word but is considering words like fortify or strengthen.

They also discussed the importance of self-care, checking in on health, spending quality time with loved ones, and learning to be more at peace with difficult emotions. The podcast concluded with a card pull focusing on generosity and abundance for the new year.

    Other things discussed:

    • Chloe and Steph welcomed listeners to their first podcast episode of 2024. They discussed wanting to broaden their audience this year.
    • Steph shared a recap of her skin issues over the past year and the various steps she took like changing her diet, seeing a naturopath and dermatologist, and implementing a skincare routine to clear up her rosacea.
    • They also caught up on how their holidays went, with Chloe saying it felt like a bit of a blur but enjoyed spending time with family.
    • Steph mentioned Huwey's back issues limiting activities but still enjoying time with friends visiting.
    • Both were looking forward to more structure in the new year after a relaxing break.

    ____

Chloe's Vision & Intention setting work sheet

1.Find a comfy space where you feel calm and relaxed. Take a few deep inhales and exhales.
    2.
Cast your mind forward to the last day of 2024. Where are you? How do you feel? Think about all the wonderful accomplishments over the past 12 months- who you have become, the activities you loved, adventures had, feelings felt, all the moments… FEEL it all.
    3.
Open your journal (or can be a plain piece of paper, or in your phone notes) and write Vision at the top and write down all that you saw, paying particular attention to your feelings.
    4.
On the next page, a top write Action & then from your list choose 4 themes / feelings that you want to take action toward this year to ensure you’re working towards your amazingly wonderful and of 2024 that you have envisioned!
    5.U
nder each theme, write how you are going to take action. Aka/ ‘Nourished’: meditate, wholesome foods- organic boxes, no more hello fresh, meal plan and prep Fridays.

And there you go- check back in on your action list so that you can hold yourself accountable - even put it on the fridge where you can see it!

    - How we take care of ourselves during this time of year

    About Charlotte:
Charlotte Hardy is the owner and winemaker of Charlotte Dalton Wines. She has spent 23 years in the wine industry, beginning her career at Craggy Range in New Zealand’s Hawkes Bay in 2000.

After five years Hardy left to work at Chateaux Giscours in Bordeaux, France, followed by a move to the United States to work for David Abreu, viticulturist and grower to some of the most cult brands in California.

A move to South Australia in 2007 saw Hardy appointed first winemaker for The Lane vineyard’s new Hahndorf winery. Out of frustration at not being able to have grapes or wine analysed in the Adelaide Hills Hardy left The Lane in 2009 and established a mobile wine and grape analysis laboratory operating in the region.

After two years running the lab Hardy employed staff to operate it and returned to winemaking as winemaker for Natasha Mooney’s wine consultancy business Wine Architect. Her own brand – Charlotte Dalton Wines – began in 2015, with Hardy making wine from a shed on her Basket Range property alongside her consultancy job.

In 2017 Hardy welcomed daughter Ava and moved into working for her brand full time. Two years later Hardy’s son Sammy was born, and she and partner Ben Cooke moved to the Fleurieu Peninsula.  They established a new winery and cellar door in Port Elliot where they make and sell the Charlotte Dalton and Cooke Brothers wines.

30 Sam Meditates: Christmas outfits, grief over the holidays & exercising your focus

30 Sam Meditates: Christmas outfits, grief over the holidays & exercising your focus

In this week’s episode, Chloe chats with guest, Sam Healy, the man behind Be and Co Meditation.

Before we get to Sam’s chat, Steph and Chloe get together on the couches! We riff on:

    • Christmas preparations: Christmas morning swims, grief & how we remember our passed loved ones this time of year
    • Chloe and Steph discuss how Christmas can be a difficult time for those who have lost loved ones, and they encourage listeners to be gentle with themselves and find ways to remember and honor their loved ones.
    • Receiving gifts: What to do when you receive a gift that you may not have chosen for yourself
    • New Moon Sag 12/13th December

Our guest, Sam was until 2019, a proud skeptic of mediation until a few experiences changed his view and led to major transformation. Sam became a certified meditation teacher in 2020 and his mission is to teach people how to 'Be' and normalise it in their day to day. “When you're Being, the Doing comes effortlessly. Be first. Happiness, calmness, fun, adventure...all these types of things are the benefits of learning how to Be” - Sam Healy

Here’s what Chloe & Sam chat about:

    - Sam shares their personal journey of discovering the benefits of meditation, from feeling burnt out as a teacher to developing a program for staff and students.

    - Meditation vs Mindfulness: Meditation is the practice of exercising focus. It helps train the brain to focus on one thing at a time. Mindfulness is awareness - it's noticing what your focus is on within the present moment.

    - Supporting kids to meditate. A guide is their age + 2 minutes

    - Daily dose of Meditation: Aim for 20 minutes of meditation twice a day for best results. Start with 8 minutes if needed & build up

    - Best way to Meditate: Sit upright for meditation so the brain doesn't associate it with sleeping. Keep the spine straight and neck free.

    - Support yourself during Meditation by asking "What is my next thought going to be?" This creates space to notice thoughts without getting caught up in them.

    - Consistency is important for meditation to become a habit and see benefits. Don't be hard on yourself for missing days - gently get back into the practice.

    - Community and accountability can help with consistency. Consider meditation groups

    - Sam lead’s a short meditation to demonstrate how to focus on calm spaces in the mind, even when thoughts arise.

25 Access Bars: letting go of stuck emotions, the 11:11 portal and how are you today?

25 Access Bars: letting go of stuck emotions, the 11:11 portal and how are you today?

In this episode Chloe and Steph share their experiences with Access Bars, Reiki, and a psychic reading (27:56) that they each received from the same practitioner.

They discuss the Access Bars process, which involves focusing on past negative emotions and events from different time periods in order to clear energy blocks. Both Chloe and Steph found this experience profound and felt that it shifted their mindsets. They then discuss their Reiki sessions, with Steph describing intense visual and physical sensations that she felt.

Finally, they share some of the insights they each received from their psychic readings, such as themes around voice, intuition, and sharing their stories. Overall,  this multi-modality appointment was a powerful experience for releasing stagnant energy and gaining clarity.

    What is Access Bars:

    - Access Bars are 32 bars of energy that run through and around the head, storing electromagnetic components of all past thoughts, ideas, attitudes, decisions and beliefs

    - There are bars related to healing, body control, awareness, creativity, power, aging, sex and money

    - Access Bars is a gentle and powerful way to shift mindset and change perspectives by releasing the past and stored negative energy

    - The technique involves applying thumb pressure to specific energy points on the head to help release emotional and mental blocks holding a person back from living their best life

Earlier in the epsiode the girls discussed:

    - How they've been feeling - Chloe said she felt flat last week post-Eclipse

    - Changing the question "How are you?" to be more specific about timeframe

    - The Block finale

    - Drawing a card about being called to journey, and doing a manifestation exercise together

    - upcoming 11:11 portal, New Moon & Scorpio season
