This week, Persis and Raven try to search for their missing guest Joanne Kam in her dressing room but fall through the rabbit hole instead and ended up on the wrong side of her wardrobe. Narnia it’s not, but the hapless duo discovers a whole new world of sequins, fabulous clothes, killer heels, cool shades and lots and lots of hairspray, ruled by none other than the one and only Joanne Kam herself who is indisputably the comedy queen of Malaysia.  Going by her stage moniker Joanne Kam Po Po, Joanne is one of the funniest and best loved comedian on the Malaysian stage with her girl power and acid-tongue brand of humor. Since her big break in the legendary Boom Boom Room on both sides of the causeway, she has established her self as a comic with attitude and character, complete with fabulous costumes. For the past decade, she has been pushing the comedy envelope while being actively involved in the local television, theatre and standup scene. The talented, multi-tasking performer is also a theatre producer, sex columnist for the Malaysian Esquire and runs her own events and entertainment company, Earlier in March, she returned to the stage again with her own show Super Kam 2: The Second Kam-ming, the sequel to her acclaimed Super Kam show staged in June 2012. Joanne is currently a radio DJ on Malaysia's Red FM 104.9 "The Really Really Late Breakfast show" and you can listen to her from 2 – 5pm on weekdays. It's a tough Sunday for Tomboy Tarts, Persis and Raven, when their Harley Sportsters break down on a highway in Borneo. Great! What's next, eh? With no signal on Persis' phone, it looks like our resident tomboys are done for until Raven spots a secret biker's bar hidden in the oil palm trees ahead. As they make their way in, Raven and Persis decide to take some precautions just in case - Raven shows off her Oriental swordsmanship skills while Persis does it Indian spicy style with her customised pepper spray. When they gain access to the bar from some big, brawny biker guys, played by John Rapp and Chris Brake from The Chris Brake Show, guarding the entrance, the tomboys get massively frisked and manhandled by bouncers when Raven's sword sets off the alarm. Jaime Dempsey, from Ride n Seek Borneo saves them from the nasty bouncers and all's well that ends well (for now). Jaime Dempsey takes on Borneo in Season 2 of the Ride n Seek bike travel show on History. Jaime Dempsey is the bubbly, blonde American Biker girl and host of Ride n Seek, a bike travel show on History and History HD. Carrying on from Season 1 where Jaime began an epic road trip through West Malaysia, this time she explores both the mainstream and “off the beaten track” locations and activities in East Malaysia and Brunei. In this challenging season, Jaime's trip will cover over a thousand kilometres of distance stretched over 30 days. Her motorcycle's mobility allows her to go places few tourists have ever been... in fact some may even be new to Malaysians! This week, Persis and Raven find themselves struck in the limbo space feared by all authors - the infamous writers' block where they run into their guest of the week, Jason Tanamor.  Jason Tanamor is editor and founder of Zoiks! Online - an online magazine site that offers the best in music and standup comedy. Over the course of his career, the established writer has written for major publications such as Yahoo! & Cinema Blend and interviewed some of the biggest names in entertainment such as Chuck Palahniuk (Fight Club); comedians Tracy Morgan & Hal Sparks and musicians Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins) & Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers). Jason is also the author of four books and his latest novel is Hello Fabulous!, a funny story about a straight and boring guy who continually gets mistaken for a gay and fabulous guy. Oh, and there’s a huge flamingo, too! The novel takes place in Moline, Illinois, a city that Jason Tanamor is very fond of.  As the comedy duo waits for Jason to rediscover his writer's mojo, they review a potato salad Kickstarter, learn about a performance artist called Milo Moiré who recently laid eggs from her vagina to a disinterested public in the nude as well as invesigate the curious of the American exchange student who was struck in a vagina sculpture in Germany and had to be recused by 22 firefighters. Jason recounts how he got into writing and talks about interviewing comedians who are not funny in person. Jason reads an excerpt from Hello Fabulous! and reveals the amusing real life event that inspired Hello Fabulous. Then Tomboy Tirade takes a funny, light-hearted look at sterotyping, how Asians don't age & look alike and the Western Mascline Ideal vs the Asian men.  Could we overcome writers' block for good? Associated Press will be using robots to write articles in the future and this does not go down well with Persis. Then Persis and Raven finally got written out of the writer's block and straight into Gay Pride parade action from Hello Fabulous! with hilarious results. Brazil fever takes over the Tomboy Tirade pitches this week! Tara Rushton, host of Fox Sports Australia's A-League live preview show, Kick Off! and Nelson Tan, Singapore entrepreneur, actor and ex-Singapore League club, Tampines Rover's goalkeeper join Persis and Raven on this new World Cup 2014 special in Brazil. Our story begins at a match between Chile and Netherlands where far, far away in a washroom, Persis struggles with late-night irregular bowel movements, while Raven gears herself up to referee the match. As Persis' constipated situation continues, Raven gives up and heads off to the pitch, leaving Persis to wander around the stadium for a bit before spotting her guests for the week, Tara Rushton and Nelson Tan. As the match plays out on the field, at the stands, the trio dribble straight into the news highlights of the week which include England's early exit from Brazil. Everyone wonders what exactly is England's problem. Is it a bloated football scene or Steven Gerrard's inability to captain a fragmented team to victory? What does this all mean for England's future in international football competitions? Listen to find out. Then we take a bite out of Suarez's incorrigible blood-sucking tackle and take a few digs at how the World Cup stage has become an increasingly violent and aggressive competition as we throwback to some other equally infamous foul moments from World Cups past. Next, World Cup predictions are in order as everyone takes a stab at who they think will take the World Cup home this year, followed by some burning questions from the fans about the World Cup. Meanwhile Raven is dying of boredom out on the pitch. The goal-less match is putting our Tomboy Tart to sleep. As Persis turns green with envy at Raven's referee gig, she still has to mete out a World Cup quiz to Tara and Nelson before it all goes to pots when one of the players from Netherlands accidentally kicks a ball at Raven and throws her into a football coma. The whole stadium is in uproar! Persis panics as Raven, spouts gibberish while Nelson calls for the medics and Tara suggests spraying her. It's chaos as football fever officially sets in this crazy summer on Tomboy Tirade.  OUR GUESTS THIS WEEK ARE TARA RUSHTON & NELSON TAN!!! Tara Rushton is currently FOX SPORTS AUSTRALIA'S host for Kick Off, the live Australian Football League (A-League) preview show. She reports from the sidelines of the A-League as well as the European football season. This former model, actress and television host was also ex-host of Singapore's EPL show, Tiger Goals in 2012. Her passion for sports and journalism began from a young age. Tara is a sporty lassie herself and quite the athlete herself, enjoying travelling, music, reading and working out in her free time.   What can we say except that football runs through Nelson Tan's DNA (seen here in an orange jersey). This actor, entrepreneur and ex-Tampines Rovers goalie enjoys his time on the pitch which keeps him fit, active and close to his favourite sport. Nelson now runs a successful logistics business and when time permits, he takes weekends out on the pitch to lend his goalkeeping skills in friendly games. What's up with these World Cup organisers? Then it's time to take a piss at Apple shelling out USD$3.2 billion to buy Beats by Dre which the Tirade crew feel make the worst headphones ever made. Meanwhile, Christopher gets wet over the developer friendly news at the recent 2014 WWDC, especially with SWIFT, a revolutionary new code that will change computing, while Geoff drools over the new iCloud and the new iOS, all the time sharpening his elvin knife as Christopher, Raven and Persis take the mickey out his father's company. The Tomboy Tarts are back with another episode of Tomboy Tirade, Asia'a ONLY all-female comedy chat podcast (for now). As you know the Tomboy Tiraders hope to start a trend here in Asia where more girls will step up to the podcast podiums and bare their hearts, souls and vaginas and we have been working hard ourselves attending some comedy shows and improv workshops around town and this week we catch up with our improv master and one of Asia's leading stand-up comics, Joanna Sio. Joanna Sio, runner up at the 2012 HK International Comedy Competition, become the first female comedian to achieve this accolade. She is both a standup and improv comedian and has performed live in the Netherlands, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia and Singapore. An intelligent and witty comedy writer, Joanna will leave you in stitches as she jokes about everything from marriage to what Chinese people eat. Which means free dim sum for our listeners this week as we improv our way through the episode. It's not exactly 'Whose Line Is It Anyway' but we try our best to waddle our way through classic improv exercises like an original Tirade improv creation 'Wait a minute! You Call this the News?!' where we are given a minute to come up with a ridiculous news story from the top of our heads. It is then followed by a quick Q&A with Joanna about the improv scene in Asia and Singapore as well as why improv is better than anti-depressants. :) After that we're back at it again at the improv playground with a game called 'Scenes from the Fedora Hat' where Persis, Raven and Joanna make spontaneous associations with a certain scenario or situation. When that game breaks down, the ladies move onto 'The ABC Game'; an improv favourite where everyone has to throw out a sentence, based on a letter in the alphabet, related to a specific location or scenario. When that goes nowhere, it's time for the last improv exercise, 'Questions Questions....So many questions' wher Joanna and the Tomboy Tarts must get through a specific scenario for a limited time, asking themselves only questions. However, Joanna ends up disappearing into a mysterious portal never to return and Persis and Raven have no choice but to declare the show over with a 'Missing Guest Alert' that involves a very suspicious black cat. Anything can happen in this improv-tastic episode so come on over and give us a listen! We won't bite! Persis and Raven want to become infamous so they hired Lingxi Xiong and Jason Hau from Singapore's top comedy youtube channel Wah!Banana to produce a viral video for Tomboy Tirade. After all, these guys have not just one, but two videos which are among the Top 10 most viewed youtube videos from Singapore in 2013. As the Wah!Banana crew set up under the trees, Persis and Raven find out the hilarious alternative name to Wah!Banana, if there is any erhm naughty wah! in the banana ;)  and how Lingxi and Jason are coping with a new cast and the pressure of living up to expectations. First up in the firing line is a new nominee for the Darwin sweepstakes - the guy takes selfie video and gets kicked in the head by the conductor for standing too close to the train. Hello Kitty is the next target - first as the McDonald craze that is returning to Singapore  and other as the title of Arvil Laviange 's confusing new Gothic + cupcakes music video which looks like a blatant rip off from Gwen Stewani 's Harajuku Girls = 10 years too late. Has she missed out on the current Korean wave memo? Ka-ka-ka-ka-kawaii! Next everyone turns to their attention to why Asians like to watch youtube videos, especially funny ones. Lingyi and Jason takes the Tomboy Tarts through the process of making a Wah!Banana video and share their favourite youtube Personality and Wah!Bananans video. Karen learns to dance in a year and the video becomes a viral hit. She later shared her strategy in an article on medium called "Ten ways to make your videos go viral". We discuss how videos like Wah!Banana go viral and agree that content is still the king as Wah!Banana reveals the secret to their success. Then it is time to shoot the viral video and the Tomboy Tarts are interrupted by a mysterious unidentified flying. Did Persis and Raven just score a viral hit that landed from the sky? This week on Tomboy Tirade! Get your swagger on as we talk style, celebs and fashion. It's Labour Day and Persis and Raven get invited to swag their tomboy style at the 2014 SWAG FASHION SHOW by Singapore's best-loved style guru. As they wait for Marcus, two of Tomboy Tirade's biggest fans, Aman and Geoff send in their heartfelt and very affectionate sponsored messages and Raven whips out a massive thunder thighs move. When the Style Monk aka Marcus arrives, everyone takes the mickey out of Intimacy 2.0, a dress that becomes invisible when the wearer gets turned on. Next in the firing line is Kim Kardashian as everyone wonder why the hell she was recently named a 'fashion icon' when Kanye West cannot even choose his own shoes! And then all eyes turn to what Raven calls the 'token black woman of the year' Lupita Nyong'O who is Hollywood's 'it girl' right now and recently announced Lancome spokesperson. The girls also ask Marcus why he hasn't being endorsing products himself since he is all about fashion and style. After that it's the Tomboy Tirade Fashion Police Awards where Marcus, Raven and Persis give you their low downs on the Best and Worst Dressed Celeb as well as their choices for Best Hobo and Skank Celeb Awards. Your guess is as good as ours! And finally a few fashion tips from Marcus himself on how to achieve tomboy chic style and why he was once almost suffocated by an inappropriately sized tee-shirt, all in the name of TV. The weekend is here and it's Open Mic Jam at a local hipster cafe. The Tomboy Tarts. Persis and Raven have bribed ex-MTV Asia VJ, former Lush 99.5 DJ, television presenter/model and  global traveller, Choy Wan into letting them play their latest song onstage. They chat about attending a book launch for a coffee travel guide book called 'Tokyo Cafe' by their friend, Pok before bumping into their guest, Choy. After flying high for years, Choy and her twin sister, May Wan were affectionately known around the region as  "May and Choy", during their MTV Asia days. These twins were a no-holds barred duo who were able to always put music personalities they were interviewing in a spot. Now with May settled, Choy is making a name on her own. Besides straddling work in television, stage and film, she also is a woman with wanderlust in her veins and she's fulfilling it by working at a travel agency doing public relations. Wedding bells are also around the corner as Choy reveals that she is now officially an 'Etsy bride'. Find out why. Then find out what everyone has to say about Miley Cyrus' situation as she grieves for her recently deceased dog, Floyd as everyone wonders if it's all theatrics, bullcrap or just another phase in Miley's crazy life. It's 9pm and the night is still young here in one of Singapore's dodgiest but oh-so-hangable comedy clubs. Prostitutes aside, Raven and Persis manage to barge in before opening time to get a chance to talk to one of Singapore's funniest female comics on the block, the acid-biting, Sharul Channa who has more jokes up her sleeve than your favourite cup of masala tea. In her dressing room backstage, the Tomboy Tarts find themselves forced to sit on real snake chairs as they chat about Sharul's entry into comedy, Asian women and comedy and of course, the all important racist and mother complex jokes that Sharul's act is famous for. Sharul Channa who multi-performs in various comedy joints around town started her career as an actress and moved to Mumbai to seek her fortunes but Bollywood Dreams eluded her when she realised that it wasn't all it was cut out to be. So she returned to Singapore, hung out at Home Club where her hubby, Rishi was already performing stand up comedy. After a couple of months of hanging out at the place, Sharul was persuaded by Comedy Masala show creator, Uma Rana to just get up onstage and let it all hang, which she did and the rest is, as they say, 'her-larious'. See her MC once every month, Monday nights at the Moshi Moshi Bollywood Comedienne Showcase featuring local and overseas, established and up and coming comics. On Tuesdays, she is a regular at Home Club's Comedy Masala created by the uber-funny and talented Uma Rana and on Thursdays, she is up with Kumar, Singapore's best-loved drag-queen maestro comedian also at Home Club.
