Tomboy Tirade Episode 41: Tomboy Tarts Flying Circus

Tomboy Tirade Episode 41: Tomboy Tarts Flying Circus
Persis and Raven have changed careers! The podcasters are now owners and ringmasters of their own circus, the Tomboy Tarts Flying Circus but as usual, something always cocks up for the duo as up and coming UK female comedy duo, Biscuit & Brawn throws a spanner in the works. The crowds are cheering and they're going wild! The Tomboy Tarts Flying Circus is in town and it's going to be an hour of fun and wild entertainment for the crowd. Persis and Raven welcome everybody to their glamourous show under the big top but just as things are about to kick off, an angry bunch of lions are let loose and our resident ringmasters have to flee for their lives. A couple of miles from the circus, in the wilderness, they come across a filthy and stinky gypsy camp where they are unexpectedly captured by up and coming female comedy duo, Adele "Biscuit" Cliff & Kate "Brawn" Cherrell who have dreams of being a headlining trapeze act. Holding Persis and Raven hostage, Adele and Kate force the ringmasters to bring them back to their circus. As they make their way back, they talk about the news highlights which include the Prince Andrew's recent sex scandal with an underaged girl, the Charlie Hebdo terrorism fiasco in Paris, women in comedy and the future of comedy from the lenses of Biscuit n Brawn. Along the way listen to excerpts from Biscuit n Brawn's comedy sketches that is now available to view on their official YouTube channel (subscribe!) and hear some of the funniest women out there working the comedy scene from Gina Yarshen and Catherine Tate. As the night wears on, Biscuit n Brawn yank the Tarts back to their Flying Circus, thankfully, in one piece and get ready to perform their debut trapeze act in front of a wildly excited audience. After a hesitant introduction from Persis and Raven, Adele and Kate hash it out as Adele "Biscuit" Cliff has some last minute jitters about performing until Kate "Brawn" Cherrell convinces her that their oath to complete the Hungarian Triple Twist is their ticket to fame, Biscuit decides to throw her cares to the wind and they take the stage. What happens afterwards, of course is a ripping disaster of epic proportions of course, the way it always does here on Tomboy Teee-rahd! So what happens in the end? Well you've got to listen to find out, right? Tomboy Tarts ALWAYS supports funny women and we love the antics of Biscuit n Brawn, who are an up and coming comedy duo from the UK who met in 2011 at the Comedy Society at their university and found that comedy duos with 'meat' actually do work! Made up of Adele "Biscuit" Cliff and Kate "Biscuit" Cherrell, they describe their style of comedy as silly, idiotic slapstick with a dash of witty humour. Check out their silly videos out on their Youtube channel and SUBSCRIBE so they can keep entertaining you with their videos. You can connect with Biscuit and Brawn on Facebook, Twitter and Google! Tomboy Tirade Ep 38: Battle's Eve@Lonely Mountain

    Tomboy Tirade Ep 38: Battle's Eve@Lonely Mountain
It is the one last journey for Tolkien and fantasy fiction/movie geeks into Middle Earth with Peter Jackson's final installment of 'The Hobbit' trilogy and the Tomboy Tarts, Persis and Raven journey this fascinating ancient universe with Tolkien/Fantasy experts, the podcast crew of 'The Riddles In The Dark & Predictions Game' as we head to Lonely Mountain on the eve of the Battle of Five Armies on our own adventures. Persistia, ancient guardian of relic magic and Ravenous, warrior sword maiden from Tomboy Tarteesia journey to Middle Earth to find out what is going on at the foothills of the Lonely Mountain on the eve of the Battle of Five Armies, a war sparked by Thorin Oakenshield's need to defend his dwarf kingdom of Erebor. As they seek rest at The Prancing Pony at Bree, they bump into Corey Olsen, (The Tolkien Professor), Trish Lambert and Dave Kale, co-hosts of The Riddles of The Dark & Predictions Game, a bounty hunting group of vigilantes and experts of Middle Earth.  There's no love lost between the Tomboy Tarts and Riddles in The Dark as they recall the time when they both whooped each others butts in previous misadventures but just as things heat up, a common and very dark enemy rears its ugly head, Sauron's Ringwraiths - who make an unexpected visit to this little town. From Bree, the unexpected fellowship escape to Weathertop where they spend some time talking about news highlights which include the rumours that next on the studio's list of possible Middle Earth films will be The Silmarillion. We talk about whether Christopher Tolkien and the estate will release the rights to the book, which his father left unfinished with mesmerizing stories of Middle Earth's origins from the creation of the Ainulindalë - The creation of Eä (Tolkien's Universe), The Valanquenta and more including the tales of Beren and Luthien and Túrin Turambar,. Tolkien Professor, Corey Olsen thinks Christopher would have to be stone cold dead before that happens but one can only hope. In our second news highlight at Weathertop, we predict whether this last film on Middle Earth will tank at the box office since expectations will be very high on this film to tie up all the loose ends of this trilogy and the Lord of the Rings franchise. The discussion is tripping up at Weathertop with it's cool and light breezes until a nasty little snitcher we all know as Gollum sneaks up on us and Persistia whistles for The Great Eagles to come rescue them from Gollum's evil and sneaky clutches. The Great Eagles drop them off at the borders of Mirkwood and Thrandir's Elven Kingdom as the discussion continues about what will happen in this last film, "Battle of Five Armies" but armies are already marching towards Lonely Mountain and the troup don't want to miss out on the excitement of battle and gaining the Arkenstone from Smaug's lair. The Tomboy Tarts set the Riddles in The Dark podcast unknowingly on a triathlon to Lonely Mountain and upon arrival, the bounty hunters realise they don't have the key to the secret side door. Darn it! But Persistia and Ravenous turn up with the key and unlock the door just in time before the last light of Durin's day. In the dark tunnels of Lonely Mountain, everyone gets into the thick of it wondering what the future of Middle Earth will be on TV or cinema. Some predict that a TV series showcasing the adventures of a young Aragorn could be a possibility while others predict that there might be a reboot of the LOTR series on film, a sort of 'Star Trek: Next Generation' series. Yuck! Finally, it's time to play a rapidfire questions game before everyone realises that Smaug has woken up from his sleep. Terrified, everyone wonders if they will escape Lonely Mountain without being turned to ashes. You don't want to miss out on the last EPIC episode of Tomboy Tirade of 2014! Tomboy Tirade Ep 37: The Winter Quest f. Samantha Swords

Tomboy Tirade Ep 37: The Winter Quest f. Samantha Swords
"This week, the tomboy knights set out on their winter quest to slay a dragon and save the world. Along the way, they run into legendary swordsman Sir Samantha Swords, a modern-day renaissance woman and a Medieval martial arts expert. Can the tomboys prove themselves worthy of the King Arthur's court or will they be burn into a crisp? Join us on this epic journey, filled with fantasy and adventure, coming your way December 6 on Tomboy Tirade!" A long long time ago, two tomboy knights Sir Raven of Torchwood and Sir Persis of the Ring embark on a quest to slay a dragon and save the world. Well, kind of. Wanting to be part of the Sir Arthur's Round Table, they decide to look for a dragon to slay. Along the way, they run into lengardy swordsman Sir Samantha Swords who is on her way to hunt down a wayward dragon that has burnt down five villages and is terrorising the common folk. As it was a long walk to the dragon's hiding place, there is plenty of time for these tomboys to engage in topics relevant to the medieval period, such as Game of Thrones.  As the whole world knows, Game of Thrones will return to our screens again next Spring. Filming for Season 5 begun in July and the production has been making headlines since. In August, game of Thrones producers have been forced to seek a new location to shoot a planned nude walk by Lena Headey's Queen Cersei. Just last month, 86,000 people responded to a cast call request for 600 Game of Thrones extras in Spain where the series is currently being filmed. So it looks a lot of exciting things going down for season 5 so... what we can expect? Which of your favourite character will die next? What does the Historical European Martial Arts community feel about the depiction of sword fighting and other forms medieval combat in the show? What is the the difference between actual medieval fighting and the dramatisation on the screens? Credit: Photo by Rey Alabastro with green armour by Shari Finn After denying about their involvement in a Wonder Woman film all this while. Warner Bros. is now looking for a director for their film and they want it to be female. We discuss who could be up for the gig, including Kathryn Bigelow and Joss Whedon. Is this enlightening move by Hollywood to reach out to its female film community and diversifying the playing field? Or is it a sexist move that implies only a female director can helm a movie starring a feminist icon? By this logic, should Captain Marvel be directed by a woman as well? Then it is back to find about more about historical European martial arts and its background. There is a resurgent interest now where technology has enabled fans all around the world to form their community and movement. Increasingly, women are joining the movement and picking up martial arts. Who are the famous female fighters in the modern day European martial arts movement? Samantha advices beginners on how they can pick up martial arts and be part of the community. A big Lord of the Rings fan, Samantha shares with us how she found her dream gig working as a props maker and a costume/armour assistant in the Hobbit movie where she constructed armour and weapons for the characters in the movie. Besides The Hobbit movies, she has worked in special effects for productions such as The Hobbit, District 9, Chronicles of Narnia, Superman: Man of Steel and Elysium. Photo Credit: The Offering publicity shot by Steve Unwin Finally, Samantha reveals how she would slay a dragon. But as usual with the bumbling duo, things takes an unexpected turn. Can Persis and Raven escaped from the jaws of the dragons or will they be burnt into a crisp? Find out in the epic new episode of Tomboy Tirade coming your way on December 6! Samantha Swords Our guest for this week is modern-day renaissance woman, Samantha Swords, a real-life swordsman, artist, stunt woman and actress from New Zealand. Tomboy Tirade Ep 36: The Great Geek Crusade!

Tomboy Tirade Ep 36: The Great Geek Crusade!
Ahhhh! It's a perfectly beautiful Tirade Thursday in Singapore. The birds are chirping in the parks, babies are all peacefully sleeping in their strollers, music from Mozart fills the air. What better way for the Tomboy Tarts, Raven and Persis to spend their day off, indulging in chocolate eclairs and reading a comic book eh? But o no! Things always go horribly wrong for this dumbass duo as the island is suddenly torn apart at its seams by a freak tornado that blows them right into their comic book - one that was once written by the Geek Crusade, Singapore's biggest online geek community. Nicholas and Gillian, founders of the community and the Tomboy Tarts talk about the comic-book obsessed Fall TV lineup on US television where Constantine, Gotham and The Flash battle it out for coolest comic book TV series of the year. We also talk about Keanu's so-called tanking movie studio career which has ironically made him a star in other ways, thanks to his latest action flick, 'John Wick', a film that hits hard at the core of what action movies are supposed to be; raw thrills and spills and has given rise to a new genre of cinema everyone's calling 'New Action'. Then everyone must make it to the next page of the comic book before the page flips to talk about the ultimate entertainment war taking place in the world of Hollywood blockbusters - yes, it could only be the Marvel vs DC tussle. Who wins? Who loses? And why? Then, everyone continues to escape more flipping comic book pages to end up on its last page where everyone talks about the growing trend of tomboy heroines in films. Why the sudden interest in making blockbuster films helmed by female action heroes? We dissect it all this week, with a dose of slapstick, tongue-in-cheek humour minus Kim Kardashian's ass. And of course, the ultimate question: Will everyone be able to find their way out of this 2D comic book world concocted by Geek Crusade? Find out in a totally geek-a-licious episode of Tomboy Tirade! Blowing into iTunes and Stitcher 13 November! Geek Crusade is Singapore's biggest online geek community and it's home for the geeks of Asia Pacific. Tomboy Tirade Ep 34: Horror in New York City [Halloween Special]

Tomboy Tirade Ep 34: Horror in New York City [Halloween Special]
It's a dark and evil Halloween night in 1930s New York as psychic tomboy detectives, Persis and Raven are on a demon possession case when they lose control of the situation and are forced to flee. In the shelter of a dark alleyway, the detectives gather themselves but not before an ominous message from the world's most evil force, Necessary Evil, comes through on their radio. The message is clear: New York City and its inhabitants will be destroyed and their souls sucked by Necessary Evil if they don't surrender their souls. Determined to save the day, the detectives try to find their way back to headquarters (HQ) but not before they meet a bunch of lost circus freaks from London, AhhGee, made up of Andy, Grax and Michael Bell, who are trick or treating on this foul night. Raven and Persis take some necessary precautions to ensure these circus lads aren't demons themselves and as all's well that ends well, they start talking about cults, including the Cult of Apple and One Direction. As the group try to make their way to HQ, they chance upon a strange clinic where more than just consultations happen as they chat about their favourite hospital shows, assessing the reality quotient (and ridiculousness at times) of such dramas. But the discussion is cut short when they realise that the clinic is simply a place for a vampire cult that feed on the blood of fresh corpses. A showdown happens where Raven saves the day with her sunglow flares and realising that there is no time to head back to HQ, they make their way to Battery Park where the Necessary Evil showdown will be taking place. Next, at an old abandoned theatre, the group decide to take a break from demons to watch a film (the only one on the roster) "The Killer That Stalked New York" but end up chasing zombies instead. It all ends explosively for AhhGee, Raven and Persis and Necessary Evil at Battery Park and another case is closed for the Tomboy Tarts. Or is it? Listen to the 1-hour epic Halloween special out NOW featuring UK indie comedy group, AhhGee Productions. AhhGee Productions create whimsy for your ears and eyes and knees and it consists of three very funny guys, Andy Harland, Grax Bishop and Michael Bell and we love their podcast and videos!
