Leslie Patten is the author of a new and very thought provoking book entitled “The Wild Excellence: Notes from Untamed America”. She has also written several eBooks on gardening, and for six years, an online blogging journal on wildlife issues from her home in the Absaroka Mountains adjacent to Yellowstone National Park. Leslie has worked with land her entire life, and still practices as a professional landscape designer in Marin County, California.  She has a degree in horticulture, as well as two years of formal naturalist training. Since moving to Wyoming in 2005, Leslie has worked with wolf, elk, and grizzly bear studies, and the Gloria Climate Change Project, in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.  She volunteers at the Buffalo Bill Museum of the West preparing museum quality specimens of birds and mammals.  Leslie enjoys hiking with her dog Koda, and exploring the Greater Yellowstone Area.

* Homicide rates have decreased by 66 per cent

* Chevron Refinery was pressured into a $114 million tax settlement and sued by the City for the damage to property and public  health caused by their disastrous fire of 2012

Each year millions of children in our schools are diagnosed with learning dis-orders and consequently placed on drugs, that have never been proven safe for children, and in some cases are lethal. Jose Luis Stevens holds a PhD in Counseling Psychology, and has worked for many years as a practicing psychotherapist. Death is a mysterious process misunderstood and feared by most of humankind.

Some of us live as if we will never die, but death is inevitable for each of us.

No one gets out of here alive!

Angelo is a certified practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine, a member of The Australian Natural Therapist Association, and the Founder of Traditional Botanical Medicine located in Cobb, California. He has taught seminars about ancient rejuvenation practices and the death process both here in the USA and internationally. Angelo presently practices traditional oriental medicine and is the author of a book about longevity and well-being entitled The Tao of Rejuvenation.

During a difficult time for me when my mother passed away several years ago, I felt much gratitude to Adi Da, for his wisdom teaching about the death process. It was of great help to me in serving her transition. There is one particular passage by Adi Da that I quote for our listeners now. It’s from one of his books entitled “Easy Death”:

To confront death in truth, you must be humbled and confounded. The death of another reminds you that in every moment you are principally confronted not by defined objects that are independent of you, but by an indefinable process that includes you.. 

Therefore in the face of the death of another, be moved to God. Remain sensitive to your present relationship with the one who has been irrevocably transformed before your eyes. Let the grosser parts return to the dimension of original elements, but remain free and Happy, allowing that one to be a blissful sacrifice into the Great Mystery that also obliges you ...

Surrender into Infinity with all your friends. Hold on to no thing and no one, not even yourself. Be certain of no knowledge. Forget all things in present Happiness, and so forgive the universe for all its playful changes. Always love one another, and so forgive one another for appearing, for changing, and for passing out of present sight. So be it....

I’ve often passed this quote on to folks serving the transition of another, and it has always been appreciated and meaningful to each of them.

Warriors in our Modern World, for the most part have peace as their ultimate goal, but most warriors believe the only way peace can be accomplished is through war.

With the recent extreme violence at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newton, CT and other disturbing incidents in schools across the nation, the question, especially if we are parents or teachers is: 

How can we make our schools really safe for our children?

The Government and other officials in power always seem to offer solutions that bring more authority and control into the schools, making some of them appear like prisons. This is NOT the answer nor is it the solution altogether. You can keep guns and knives out of the schools with increased security, but you can’t keep out the attitudes, beliefs, and prejudices that cause students to be cruel and mistreat each other. The answer lies in changing the emotional climate of our schools altogether.

How can this change be accomplished?

Listen to my (26 min) interview about this critical matter with two experts, Rick Phillips & Chris Pack of Community Matters (CM), a non- profit organization committed to improving the social-emotional climate of our nation’s schools and communities. organization.

CM is most well known for their highly effective student training program “Safe School Ambassadors” which effectively changes the school climate by empowering students themselves to be agents of positive social change, and intervene in incidents where students mistreat each other. IDA is a non-profit organization which rescues, gives sanctuary to, and provides veterinary care for abused and abandoned animals. In the USA, IDA also works to protect our nation’s wild horses, campaigns against puppy mills, vivisection, the fur industry, and on behalf of elephants and other wild animals mistreated in zoos and circuses. Internationally, IDA works to halt animal abuse in India, Africa, and parts of Asia. IDA will celebrate it’s 30 year anniversary in 2013, and is now recognize as a leader for the advancement of animal rights and welfare around the world.

Doll Stanley is one of IDA’s Regional Directors of Investigations, and has worked with IDA since their founding in 1983.  After being instrumental in shutting down two large USDA animal dealers for abuse in Mississippi, Doll and IDA founded the Hope Animal Sanctuary in 1993 which has since then, helped thousands of animals to be free from abuse and neglect. IDA’s Hope Animal Sanctuary has helped to shut down abusive puppy mills, pet shop suppliers, exotic animal hoarders, dog fighting rings, and has rescued many other animals from neglect and suffering in backyards, barns, and pastures.
