God's Gentleness in the Story of Peter
Lent Week 5
Listen to Matt Vacelkiv's sermon: God's Gentleness in the Story of Peter (and Gentleness in Peter's Ministry)
This week Matt looks at the journey of Peter and how Jesus loved and cared for him just the same through all the key points that we know about in scripture. His calling as a fisherman, Jesus walking on the water and Peter rising to try and join him, his proclamation of Jesus as the Christ, his denial after Jesus is arrested, and his reconnection with Jesus on the beach after Jesus calls out to them from the shore, "try casting your nets to the other side of the boat", and Peter recognizes the voice of his friend and teacher.
Sometimes we may think of Peter as brash, brave, or maybe a tough fisherman, but Matt draws upon the letters of 1st and 2nd Peter, that he would've written later in his life, and the beauty and gentleness that comes through in Peter's words.
