Why Trump is Bad News For Working Class Americans

Why Trump is Bad News For Working Class Americans
Leslie is joined by Richard Trumka, President of the AFL-CIO. With 12.5 million members, the AFL-CIO is the largest organization of labor unions in the country.

They discuss how, despite Donald Trump tapping into the very real and understandable anger of working people, his pitch to them is nothing but a scam. President Trumka also highlights some examples of this like Trump's support for 'Right to Work' and Wisconsin's Union-busting Governor, Scott Walker.

They also discuss Trump's comments that wages are already too high, and how he's fighting tooth and nail against workers at his hotel in Las Vegas.

An outspoken advocate for social and economic justice, President Trumka is the nation’s clearest voice on the critical need to raise workers’ wages in this slow and painful economic recovery.

He heads the labor movement’s efforts to create an economy based on broadly shared prosperity and to hold government and employers accountable to working families.

Les Leopold is a graduate of Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School for Public and International Affairs, and the author of The Man Who Hated Work and Loved Labor, The Looting of America, and How to Make a Million Dollars an Hour.

Leslie is joined by Eric Heins, President of the California Teachers Association.

Standing Against 'Right To Work' In West Virginia
Leslie is joined by Ken Hall, Teamsters General Secretary-Treasurer and President of Teamsters Local 175 in West Virginia.

They discuss how working men and women are getting together in West Virginia to tell their legislators that 'right to work' is wrong for West Virginians since it will allow corporate interests to weaken worker protections and drive down wages.

Trade and Climate Change; TPP Has Got to Go

Trade and Climate Change; TPP Has Got to Go
I'm joined by Roxanne Brown, the Assistant Legislative Director of the United Steelworkers (USW), and Holly Hart, Assistant to the International President and Legislative Director for the USW.

We discuss the USW's role at the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference, where they urged participating countries to retrain and provide transition assistance to workers in industries that will be affected by attempts to curb carbon pollution.

We then discussed how the proposed TPP would injure working Americans and foster the closing and off-shoring of vital American industry, such as steel, aluminum and vehicle manufacturing.

I'm joined by Scott N. Paul, President of the Alliance for American Manufacturing (AAM), a partnership established by some of America’s leading manufacturers and the United Steelworkers union. We discuss AAM's 2015 Made In America Gift Guide. Why is it important to try to shop American during the Holidays? As Scott Paul tells us, if Americans spent only $60 more per year on American made gifts, we'd create 200,000 new manufacturing jobs!

We discuss a recent chemical spill at Taylor Farms in which management failed to evacuate the plant. San Bernardino County breaks promises to 911 dispatchers

San Bernardino County breaks promises to 911 dispatchers
I am joined by Randy Korgan, Teamsters Joint Council 42 Organizing Director. We discuss why elected officials and the Teamsters are demanding that San Bernardino County in California keep its promises to its county employees.

"County workers perform crucial jobs such as 911 dispatchers, techs at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, child abuse hotline workers, building and bridge inspectors, flood specialists and many more. Their contract promises a
step increase every year, but last year the County started holding back those wage increases for months or even a year. In June, the County agreed to make up for the step increases it had held back, but then reneged on the agreement days later.

Despite reporting budget surpluses each year since 2005, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors has asked public employees to take cuts in wages, healthcare and retirement and now pays employees far less than public employees neighboring counties."

Teamsters say Toyota is a Danger to American Families

Teamsters say Toyota is a Danger to American Families
I am joined by Kevin Moore, President of Teamsters Local 299 in Detroit. We discuss his and the Teamsters concerns regarding Toyota.

"Toyota spent years trying to regain consumer confidence after mass recalls in 2009-2011 due to sticking gas pedals and faulty floor mats. Millions more Toyotas are being recalled due to dangerous faulty airbags.

Now, on top of these very public issues, Toyota is bidding out much of its automobile transport work to small, unproven operators who undercut the health care protections and retirement security of their drivers," says Kevin Moore.
