    Evanescence - Fallen

    Evanescence - Fallen

By early 2003, bubble-gum pop was on its way out and pop-rock was taking the forefront in terms of the mainstream music market. People were getting bored of the formulaic blonde hair and boy bands dancing in formation and were yearning for something grittier. In comes Evanescence. With rock hard guitars, mystical strings and Amy Lee’s haunting vocals, the band filled a void that was missing from pop radio. From their grand-slam debut single “Bring Me To Life” to tearjerker ballads like “My Immortal”, this debut album “Fallen” is a story of love lost, and is a 2000s staple. So put on your chokers, get out your guitars and try not to fall off the side of a building “if you know you know” …. It’s time to dive into “Fallen”.

Heaven Can Wait & Friday Night Lights

Heaven Can Wait & Friday Night Lights
As you sort through your Thanksgiving leftovers and start your Christmas shopping, let Overlapping Dialogue serve the role of comforting holiday companion. We ring in the series of occasions with a pair of football movies that tug on the heartstrings- albeit in wildly different ways- with Heaven Can Wait and Friday Night Lights. But before they settle their respective differences on the gridiron, we as humble color commentators devour a full fledged meal with a Blue Plate Special lineup: listen as we discuss the latest edition of the Call of Duty franchise (Modern Warfare 3...again) and ponder what the yet-to-be-released Coyote vs. Acme and its stalled fate means for the future of the motion picture industry, as well as find theatrical solace with an unlikely trio of satisfying new releases in Anatomy of a Fall, The Holdovers, and Thanksgiving. Upon finally arriving to our pigskin-themed main event, we delight in the multi-hyphenate nature of the 1978 romantic comedy fantasy sports yarn and try and catch our breathes from the insistent, stifling DRAMA in all caps (no cap, fr fr) of the 2004 high school sports saga. Appropriately, we even enshrine one of this episode's subjects into our very own Hall of Fame, the Immune. The PG-13 Tentacles of Spider-Man 2!

    The PG-13 Tentacles of Spider-Man 2!

This week, we swing into one of the all-time greatest comic book film adaptations: Sam Raimi’s 2004 Spider-Man 2! Combining Raimi’s masterful grasp of horror elements, zany comic-booky fun, and of course Alfred Molina’s bang-on interpretation of Doc-Ock, Spider-Man 2 kept us on our toes and continues to entertain even 2 decades later.  Join us on our rewatch as we revisit this pre-MCU world of Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker to share our thoughts on the film as well as a ton of fun facts. So what are you waiting for? Get those web-shooters ready, cause it’s time to hit that Play Button!

Van Helsing (2004) Featuring Patrick Dunn from EHMON (PATREON PICK)

The squad goes on a gothic adventure with Every Horror Movie On Netflix host, and fellow horror hound, Patrick's Patreon pick, VAN HELSING (2004). Is this a worthy homage to the Universal Monsters? Is CGI of this calibre forgivable? And, did Patrick pick this just to troll us? Tune in to find out if we gave this film a NAY, OKAY, YAY, or SLAY!

On Wednesdays we wear pink and today we infiltrate the Plastics in the 2004 teen classic Mean Girls. How many surprising new facts do we discover about the depth of Randall’s love for this movie? (Hint: it’s A LOT.) Can we just take a moment to recognize that everyone in this cast is bringing their A game? Does the feminist message of this movie stand up to contemporary values? We’ll let you know once we perfect this totally appropriate Jingle Bell Rock routine.

    Episode 13: Soul Plane

    Episode 13: Soul Plane

What if the comedy classic Airplane was remade as a minstrel show starring a not-yet-famous Kevin Hart, Method Man and Snoop Dogg? Well that's basically what the 2004 comedy Soul Plane is, a minstrel show from start to finish.  Bryce and Sydni talk about the problematic yet somehow still funny flick and why it could never be released today. Check out this cult classic if you haven't already and listen to us talk about it!

    Episode 409: See "Saw"

    Episode 409: See "Saw"

This week we watch the original "Saw." This movie has had a huge impact on the horror genre. Sure, the acting isn't amazing, but the ideas are big and they pay off. I feel like this movie may have been the the prime reason for the popularity of escape rooms. We pair it with Jigsaw Pinot Noir. It really just went and fell into our laps. Work smarter, not harder.

    Metacritic Score: 46/100

Movie Sync Notes: We watch "Saw" on Amazon Prime. We start "Saw" 7:19 into the pod, and push play on part two 1:06:42 into the pod.
