EP340: My Peacock Tale: Secrets of an NBC Page

Shelley Herman is Ken’s guest. A great way to break into TV is to become a network Page (remember Kenneth from 30 ROCK?) Shelley was an NBC page back in its glory days and has written a terrific tell-all book about it and the stars she encountered. She’s also performed comedy with Andy Kaufman, hosted monster truck rallies on ESPN, been a game show exec, and hosted eight informercials. So lots to talk about!

Javier Caballero - Riding Through Childhood Memories

TW: Brief Emetophobia warning from 21:12 - 21:16

When asked to describe himself, Javier Caballero has a few choice phrases in mind: the resident meme guy that works in marketing, a cartoon enthusiast that appreciates the good vibes in life, a human with a dog soul that tends to overthink a lot, but most importantly, a good person to the people in his life.

During this episode, you will hear Javier talk about:

    • Why he has a special connection to a certain Christmas present he received many years ago

    • How Citizen Kane and 30 Rock play a role in his story

    • The importance of balancing your childhood desires and your adult reality

    Rob & Akiva Need a Podcast #94: 30 Rock | Season 3, Episode 7 Recap

    Rob & Akiva Need a Podcast #94: 30 Rock | Season 3, Episode 7 Recap

Rob Cesternino and Akiva Wienerkur need a podcast and every week, Rob and Akiva spin a wheel of listener-submitted podcast ideas and whatever the wheel lands on is what they podcast about next. This week, the wheel landed on "Season 3, Episode 7” which resulted in Rob and Akiva drawing from the fishbowl to watch season 3, episode 7 of NBC's 30 Rock. They were joined by Big Brother live feed updater Melissa Deni to recap the episode with Rob and Akiva in RAANAP episode 94.

30 Rock originally aired on NBC and season 3, episode 7 was entitled “Senor Macho Solo,” first airing on January 8, 2009.

After Rob, Akiva, and Melissa discuss the episode, they go through the mailbag to hear what new ideas should be added to the wheel and then spin the wheel to see what will be coming next week. If you’re interested in skipping ahead to the mailbag at any point, skip to 1:34:23.

For the link to the spreadsheet that Rob and Akiva use to compile ideas, check it all out here: Rob and Akiva Need a Spreadsheet (compiled by the great Will from America).

The Televerse #463- Spotlight on The Great Season 1

It’s been another tough week, with bad news outweighing good. Noel and Kate talk through the TV-related portion of this, before moving on to the week’s TV. We kick things off with the comedies, with Noel sharing his thoughts on Hulu’s Palm Springs and NBC’s 30 Rock-themed upfront presentation-slash-reunion episode. Then we talk genre, checking in on Stargirl and Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD. Last, we round out the week with reality, so of course that means Jelle’s Marble Runs: Marble League 2020, which had another two events, the long jump and the 5m hurdles, and RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars, with this season’s ball. Afterward, we head to the spotlight section to sing the praises of Hulu’s The Great, which dropped its first season back in May. Listen for our thoughts, then reach out with your take on the week’s TV and the shows you’ve been discovering during quarantine.

Broadway & Symphony Star Capathia Jenkins
Broadway and Symphony Star Capathia Jenkins. I love this line from her bio that says “This woman who grappling with two dueling passions each with a strong grip: acting and music, yet she refuses to pick one because they both represent her soul. Capathia approaches a song the same way she approaches a script, like an artist. She looks for the nuances, the secret hidden within the notes or text. She seeks the melody, harmony, and rhythm. She asks herself: what am I trying to say? What do I want my audience to experience with me? She wants to take her audience on a journey."
