    Ep 50: Celebrating 50 Episodes

    Ep 50: Celebrating 50 Episodes

Akua is celebrating her 50th podcast episode! She’s sharing some words of wisdom about podcasting and what she’s learned about herself in the process, as well as the top three most popular episodes and what they offer.

It’s been about a year since Akua started releasing her weekly podcast episodes. If you’ve ever wanted to be a public speaker in any capacity or host your own podcast, Akua has some thoughts about how you can show up and be consistent.

Long-time listeners of the Open Door Conversations podcast know that even as an experienced speaker, Akua was terrified to start a podcast. She expands on why and what has changed since she started.

Akua acknowledges that she accomplished 50 episodes with help from her virtual assistant, podcast manager, all her service provider buddies, amazing interviewees, coaches, founders, and especially you, her listeners! Thank you!

    Highlights From This Episode:

    • Akua talks about why she started a podcast and the video episodes that preceded it.
    • Podcasting has taught Akua several things about herself, but her top three include she can speak off the cuff.
    • She thought she was afraid of becoming bored repeating her message, Akua has found that she is still excited to talk about her message on social media and on her podcast.
    • Having a public-facing show can be intimidating because you never know who could be listening and what their reactions will be. Learn how Akua overcame that fear.
    • One of Akua’s top episodes was Ep 6: #Ask Akua: Self Love and Self Trust. In this episode, Akua talked about finding “enoughness” in your business, defining success, and the #IAMREMARKABLE initiative.
    • Eliminating imposter syndrome is a top subject with listeners; an interview with coach Kim Witten, Ph.D., about imposter syndrome and the “imposter phenomenon” was rated very highly. Akua also talks about how to recognize toxic environments and whether or not to adapt to one.
    • Ep. 11: Time is Manufactured in the Mind is a fascinating look at time management and productivity. Find the link below and learn to shift your perspective of time from being negative or fear-based. You’ll also hear Akua introduce her leadership quiz in this episode!

The 50th Podcast Special - I Asked Different People This One Question.

The 50th Podcast Special - I Asked Different People This One Question.

Welcome back to Let's Talk Health with Mairi! Today I have a very VERY special podcast. One year of Let's Talk Health with Mairi! Fifty episodes! I can't believe it. I wanted to do something special for this podcast. It means a lot to me that I have reached a year and that it has grown exponentially since the start.

Every single one of you who has listened to the podcast is special to me and that is why I wanted to include some of you in this special podcast.

The meaning of health is different for everyone, and I wanted to showcase the beauty of that today. I want you to remember that being "healthy" is by your definition. There is no clinical definition of health and there is a reason for that - health is what you make it, health is how you feel it. I hope you can see that today, from the many people kind enough to share their personal meaning of health.

No matter how many scientific studies there are it will never invalidate your personal opinion of what healthy means to you. I encourage you to find your very own meaning of health and prioritize that forever. Use this podcast for a starting point or refinement of your definition.

I hope you loved this podcast as much as I enjoyed making and listening to it.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the podcast - your contribution means everything.

Special thanks to my brother, Jonathan, for helping me edit!

#050: 10 Lessons I’ve Learned in 50 Episodes of The Autism Outreach Podcast

#050: 10 Lessons I’ve Learned in 50 Episodes of The Autism Outreach Podcast

Wow, Episode 050! This is amazing. I want to start by saying thank you for listening, this so far has been an incredible experience. 1 year ago, my own kids had a snow day and I had just finished up my podcasting course. I was super nervous but I came into my little walk-in closet and pressed record. Throughout these last 50 episodes, I have learned so much and I want to share with you these important lessons.

    #1 - Nathan Morgan, Episode 16
Nathan taught me that the autism community prefers the term autistic, rather than a person with autism. School for a long time has taught people their first language with all disabilities, but this has really changed and autistic people are letting their voices be heard. It's still important to ask people their preferences, but the majority of the community aligns with that language.

    #2 - Chris Wenger, Episode 17
Chris shared the quote, “How you do anything, is how you do everything”. I had never heard this before but it gave me pause, and really taught me to stop rushing through even the little things, and give my best.

    #3 - Braxton Baker, Episode 20
Braxton uses a framework of 5 Ps for reflection on IEPs. These are Process, Purpose, Possibilities, Progress, Peace. Focusing on the person at hand and these “Ps” is so important, and I am so glad he shared that!

    #4 - Dr. Mary Barbera, Episode 8
Mary shares her personal experience and journey in the autism world beginning with her son’s diagnosis in the 1990s. She has a book, podcast, and some incredible online courses that really help parents be their child’s best advocate and work on so much more than speech. This perspective is so important as a professional, to hear from parents and their stories. She is a great friend and mentor.

    #5 - Kate Grandbois, 32
Kate and I discussed The Communication Bill of Rights. This is an incredible resource located on the ASHA website. This is such a powerful tool that anyone can access and it really reinforces the work we do as professionals.

    #6 - Crystal Sanford, Episode 39
Crystal shares the importance and supports an advocate provides for parents. It was great to learn as a professional what exactly an advocate does because it can be such an area of contention in the IEP room. Since this episode, I have actually signed up to start doing advocacy work and will be offering it very soon as a service through ABA Speech.

    #7 - Kayla Chalko, Episode 41
Kayla is a play-skill expert. In this episode, we discussed play milestones, including pretend to play and at what age that is supposed to happen. One great thing she reminded me of is to take away the need to be perfect. Your lesson or activity does not have to be perfect to be helpful or effective.

#8 - My walk-in closet makes the best recording studio! If you want to see where I am recording, be sure to check out the recording of this episode on YouTube.

#9 - You can’t do it alone. Not as a professional, not as a parent, not with anything. Special thanks to my business mentor, my amazing assistant, all of my wonderful guests, my social and graphic design helpers, as well as the audio production team who makes my show sound amazing!

#10 - There is still so much to share. I have so much planned for the future and episodes that will absolutely blow your mind.

This is a wonderful opportunity to hear a variety of perspectives that are truly so important. I have always loved to talk, so this podcast has been perfect for me. I love people, I love being around them, I love helping them. This show is an extension of what I really love to do personally and professionally. Thank you again so much!

Sake Revolution Episode 50 - Two Guys, 50 Kanpais and a Look Behind the Scenes

Sake Revolution Episode 50 - Two Guys, 50 Kanpais and a Look Behind the Scenes

Season 1. Episode 50. Well it's been 50 episodes since Sake Revolution launched in 2020.  The year turned out very differently than we expected... as did our little sake podcast.  This week John and Timothy flip the script on its head and start the episode with a "kanpai".  John starts by asking Timothy what the heck is a Sake Samurai anyway? Has anyone else ever had a crazier first day in Japan? Let's all promise to "Spread the word about Japanese sake around the world with pride and passion!" Then, we look back on how the Sake Revolution got started... it was just a couple of guys with a sake-soaked podcast idea and absolutely no idea what they were doing. What could go wrong!?  Well, as it turns out, transcription A.I. is not yet up to speed with all the latest sake vocabulary, leading to hilarious transcription errors such as SUCKY Revolution. JUNE MY GOOD JOB!  Challenges aside, to celebrate this milestone, the guys enjoy a 50% milled Yamdanishiki Junmai Ginjo from Izumo Fuji Brewery to celebrate 50 episodes.  This soft and lovely sake is the perfect soft landing pad for winding down our first season of episodes.  Looking to the future, we see a sunny horizon of on-location episodes and maybe even a visit to Japan??  Our sincere thanks to everyone who has listened to Sake Revolution so far.  We are so grateful and hope to bring you more sake sipping, savoring and kanpai-ing in the next 50 episodes.  Let's go!

    Therefore, what drives Boyd Matheson?

Every day, tens of thousands of Americans have access to words shared by Boyd Matheson. Some have his words delivered to their front porch or bookmarked on their web browser, others access him via his daily radio show while still others access him on-demand interviewing some of the nation's greatest thought leaders in this, his weekly podcast, "Therefore, What?" But, who is Boyd Matheson? How did this college dropout go on to to be the head of the Sutherland Institute, chief of staff for Utah Sen. Mike Lee, become a regular contributor on CNN and FOX News and end up becoming the opinion editor of the Deseret News? What were the lessons and principles that made him who he is today, and as we celebrate the first 50 episodes of his podcast, what were his biggest takeaways and "therefore" moments.
