So that tracks. Sticky stuff is back, bringing a new level of awkward to umpire duties. NYC caves to the sports lobby and rolls back a vaccine mandate, while Toronto fans tell unvaxxed players on US teams where to put their accusations of competitive imbalance. The Red Sox hold the line and Trevor Story makes a good choice. Pottymouth highlights women’s baseball in Pakistan, Malaysia, and Venezuela. UK Women go to France, and Australian women go to the finals. How about the view from this ballpark, setting the record for game played at highest elevation? Bernie Sanders wants to Save American Baseball from the whims of billionaire owners and we were with him even before he said “oligarch.” We say “hogwashy,” “if she says so, it IS so,” “back up articulation,” and refer to the Blue Jays as “that other bird.”

Patti and the Pottymouth kick off a new round of baseball boyfriends with their picks for the Orioles and Diamondbacks. Pottymouth profiles comeback player of the year Trey Mancini, and homegrown utility player Josh Rojas. Patti finally celebrates Adley Rutschman Day and finds a way to tie it to labor negotiations. She also selects almost-Olympian Seth Beer, because we love our Beer here at NCiB.

Advocates for Minor Leaguers announces a steering committee to create a collective voice, and first order of business is support of MLBPA in the lockout. MLB scrubs players’ NIL from their site and does that ever prove a point on the player side. The lockout isn’t even the biggest scandal this week, as everyone’s favorite baseball astrophysicist Meredith Wills’ discovery that MLB secretly used two completely different baseballs this season finally breaks. Pottymouth’s CPBL Lions add insult to injury, Dominican players give back, and Lobas de Areciebo are crowned champs in Liga de Béisbol Femenino de Puerto Rico. We say “rankling”, “Dusty Baker lit it up”, and “I fact-checked my dad.”

The Heart and Hustle Awards were announced last week and our boyfriends past and present were a lock Our Olympic Baseball rundown covers qHAR, the bullpen cart, the emotional Eddie Alvarez story, and Scott Kazmir and Nick Allen, two guys at opposite ends of their career getting a bump from the spotlight. Hooray for that, plus Brock Holt’s eephus, the Scherzer’s philanthropy, Adley Rutschman in general, the CPBL, and Christian Yelich’s acoustic guitar, because then things go south. 

In Police  Blotter, Omar Vizquel’s story gets significantly  worse, the lead-up to Trevor Bauer’s restraining order hearing continues to spiral, and Ramon Laureano is player #5 to earn a PED suspension this year. MLB has given up on encouraging players to vaccinate and now may have to put back some loosened protocols -- mask mandates already in place in Spring Training facilities used for the minors. None of the remaining seven teams has met the 85% vax threshold since June.

Write your congressperson to support the Minor League Baseball Relief Act to carve out emergency relief for ballpark staff wages and stadium expenses due to no season last year and reduced ticket sales this year. This is similar to other Federal relief earmarked for suffering business, small and large, but focusing on keeping these specific community treasures afloat until they regain their footing. There is no Federal  help on the way for the woes suffered by minor league players due to MLB not ponying up housing and food for their staff but instead creating unnecessary financial stress and damaging player health.
