We Adopted a Dog!
We adopted our first dog together and are here to tell you a little about it! You must take a look at the YouTube video (https://youtu.be/Efs4LwYf8Sg) to see little Dansby and follow his IG: https://www.instagram.com/dansbythedoxiemix/
He's super cute, super playful, and really sweet. He has his challenges and mostly it appears he was never properly socialized, something that happens from when a puppy is born through the crucial first months.
We keep getting quizzical looks when we tell people his name so, if you aren't a Braves fan, tune in to find out who this adorable little fella is named after!

27. Choosing a Shelter Dog for Families with Kids
This week, I talk with dog trainer and shelter dog expert, Trish McMillan about what families with kids should look for when adopting a dog from a shelter. Some of what we discuss can be controversial, but we both agree that the stakes are too high to take a risk with the wrong dog when kids are in the picture. We tackle popular concepts such as "adopt don't shop" and "forever home" and address how both of those can set families up to fail - or feel like failures. Fortunately, there are lots of ways families can find the right dog, and we chat about options that can leave families feeling guilt free.

A Sound Beginning - Using Music Therapy with Shelter & Rescue Dogs
A Sound Beginning is a fourteen day program designed to make it easy for anyone to prevent mistakes and create a positive start from the first day you bring your new dog home. This unique program reduces and eliminates the stress that is part of transition period for an adopted dog to acclimate to it's new home. Based on the book of the same name, A Sound Beginning Program is used in shelters and rescues around Chicago to help abandoned dogs get positioned for a healthy, happy, long-term adoption. Julie and Steve discuss their program and the successes they've experienced with dogs and pet parents they've worked with.

Tamara talks about Bo Hamilton Longfellow, which yes might be the most obnoxious name for a dog. Then Rheannon and Tamara talk about razor blades, fly fishing, and bears. The bars happen to be the part of fly fishing that scares Tamara the most.
