Episode #185 - Raven Tour 2014 - Setting the Stage

In the fall of 2014, Night Demon launched their first full-scale US / Canadian tour opening for NWOBHM legends Raven for a grueling 45 shows in 53 days. In this week's episode, we explore the circumstances that coalesced to make this tour happen.  You will hear about the band members' love of and respect for Raven, including the memorable tour stop when Brian played drums with them. We cover the band's spring 2014 tour of Europe that actually laid the groundwork for the Raven tour, with particular emphasis on the Pounding Metal Festival in Spain in May 2014.  Jarvis and Dusty discuss their anticipation and excitement for the Raven tour, and how pivotal it proved to be in the career development of Night Demon.

Ep. 212: Shredding The Tomb - Guitars That Rocked Our World

Ep. 212: Shredding The Tomb - Guitars That Rocked Our World

This week we continue the discussion that we started at the end of our last show; with our admiration of the almighty power of the guitar and the guitar hero! This time around we are going to play guitarists, or guitar passages or leads in songs that caught our ears at some point in our lives that made us truly stop and listen. It’s not always about the training, finesse, dexterity, or speed a player has or even the style of music or song that is being played. If you are into guitar and the sound of strings being plucked and bent then you know… It’s just something you feel deep down that gets to your heart and soul!

What’s this InObscuria thing? We’re a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This week we discuss all three. Get out your old Guitar World and Guitar Player mags and flip the pages as we discuss some of the most amazing fingers to ever touch a fretboard! Be sure to also check out the Jason Becker documentary “Jason Becker: Not Dead Yet” that we mention.

    Songs this week include:

    1. Anvil Chorus – “Blue Flames” from The Killing Sun (2009)
    2. Kirk Hammett – “The Jinn” from Portals - EP (2022)
    3. Bruce Kulick – “Ain’t Gonna Die” from BK3 (2010)
    4. Buckethead – “Welcome To Bucketheadland” from Giant Robot (1994)
    5. Tears For Fears – “Broken” from Songs From The Big Chair (1985)
    6. Psycho Motel – “Welcome To The World” from Welcome To The World (1997)
    7. Cacophony – “Go Off!” from Go Off! (1988)

Ep. 106: Merry Rock n' Punk n' Metal Christmas!

Spike your eggnog, hop on your sleigh, and take a ride with us to Christmas land! This ain’t the Bing Crosby Christmas Special though! This is Christmas the way we like it; featuring the finest rock n’ punk n’ metal we could find under the tree. Put your reindeer horns in the air and bang along with the boys as we celebrate the Holiday season the InObscuria way!!!

What is it we do here at InObscuria? Every show Kevin opens the crypt to exhume and dissect from his personal collection; an artist, album, or grouping of tunes from the broad spectrum of rock, punk, and metal. This week we stray a bit from our standard rigor because… well, because it’s the end of 2021 and we just feel like spreading some Christmas cheer in another otherwise gloomy year. We hope everyone’s families are safe, and that you are able to take some time to kick back and rock with us! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Ep. 101: Degrees Of Separation... MAIDEN vs. PRIEST

Ep. 101: Degrees Of Separation... MAIDEN vs. PRIEST

This week we dig up an old series for the 5th installment of, “Degrees Of Separation…” where we discuss the more obscure side projects and solo releases from some not-so-obscure artists. Continuing a discussion that began a few weeks ago that has since percolated into a flurry of InObscuria social media debates, we bring to you, IRON MAIDEN versus JUDAS PRIEST! Who’s metal side projects will reign supreme???

New to InObscuria? It’s all about excavating obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal from one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. While we may be talking about bands that you know intimately in this episode, perhaps you are not aware of the depth of side projects they have had over their long careers. Our hope is that we turn you on to something new and that we resolve the age-old question: MAIDEN or PRIEST???

    2. Fight – “Life In Black” from War Of Words (1993)
