    Episode 37: Irish Wolfhounds 2023

2023; what a year to be a Wolfhound!

With a calendar full to the brim of events, amongst the most notable are the Senior Kitted’s home and away fixtures against Turkey as part of their European Championship campaign; the Flag Football European Championships in Limerick; and the Youth fixture against Naples Community School as part of the GIFT programe.

Not to mention; the recent announcement (which coincided with International Women’s Day) of 3 6v6 strict-mixed Flag Football tournaments; meet and greets with Notre Dame Players and Wolfhounds Tailgates pre-College Football Classics; and potentially another youth fixture..

Kelly chats with National Programe Director Alan Orr, Wolfhounds Senior Kitted Head Coach Ciaran O’ Sullivan, Flag Football Head Coach Dan Shaw and Wolfhounds Youth Head Coach Alan Lomasney as they each prepare for a year which is arguably the most exciting year in Irish Wolfhounds history.

    "Bad" Albums by Great Bands

    "Bad" Albums by Great Bands
Colin and Bo discuss "Bad" albums by great bands across all spectrums of music. BAD is in quotes because in these cases, it was merely the perception of the critics and audiences at the times of release for the albums being discussed, but doesn't speak to the objective strengths of each. The majority of this episode offers thorough defense of some of the most panned releases in the history of metal/hardcore/punk/rock music. Recorded ahead of his departure from the role, Director of Flag Football, Coach Guillaume "GP" Poznanski (got it right that time!) chats with Kelly about where Irish Flag Football started, how it's grown and where it's going into the future.  Joe and Kelly chat with Conor "Brenno" Brennan, Niall "Kinger" King and Jack Lynch of the Westmeath Minotaurs. Episode 280: 'Women Talking' with Caroline Ely

Episode 280: 'Women Talking' with Caroline Ely

The co-host of Good Christian Fun joins us to talk about a movie that is quite good, pretty Christian, and not a ton of fun. But it's also not, as Caroline points out, a "stone cold bummer." It's the latest film from Sarah Polley, based on a book by Miriam Toews, and is fascinating both on a literal and a metaphorical level. We get serious between goofs, and then lighten the mood with a Hotline letter about movie scores.

On the same day, the Westmeath Minotaurs came victorious in a tight game against the UL Vikings, finishing 16-13, to achieve what they had left on the pitch in the 2019. Rob chats with Bill Dougherty & Andrew Paton from the Westmeath Minotaurs as they give us the inside scoop as to what lead their teams to success this year, and what they plan to do to keep the club growing from strength-to-strength into 2023.

    Closing Bell 24 November

    Closing Bell 24 November

The local market jumped 0.14% to a near 6-month high today on the back of a solid session on Wall Street overnight buoyed by the latest FOMC minutes outlining that it may be appropriate soon for the Fed’s to slow down their aggressive rate hikes. Tech stocks was the best performing sector, while gold miners also led the charge today amid a rise in the price of the precious commodity.

Qantas Airways (ASX:QAN) shares came off in afternoon trade following reports that the company’s domestic flight attendants have demanded the airline lift a two-year staff wage freeze or face the threat of attendants walking off the job during the Christmas rush. Nick Scali (ASX:NCK) shares soared over 10% today as investors responded to the furniture retailer’s AGM trading update outlining the company is performing materially better than expected in H1FY23 with revenues up 74% on the same period a year earlier. The company also expects first half profit to be between 56% to 66% above that of H1 FY22.

AGL Energy (ASX:AGL) shares took a hit today as investors responded to the company’s announcement today revealing it has decided to close the power Torrens Island B Power station in South Australia on the 30th June 2026 after 50-years of operation. The AGL management team doesn’t expect the closure announcement to have a material impact on earnings in FY23 nor does it expect the closure to have long term impact.

The winning stocks for today’s session were St Barbara (ASX:SBM) up over 9%, BrainChip Holdings (ASX:BRN) adding more than 8.5% and Evolution Mining (ASX:EVN) closing the day up 6.6%. And on the losing end coal miners weighed on the key index today amid concerns over demand in China, with New Hope Corporation (ASX:NHC) tanking almost 9% today, while Whitehaven Coal (ASX:WHC) fell 6.65%.

The most traded stocks by Bell Direct clients today were Australian Foundation Investment Co (ASX:AFI), Northern Star Resources (ASX:NST), and Bellevue Gold (ASX:BGL).

Commodities are trading mixed this afternoon with crude oil down 0.24% to U$77.75 per barrel, and natural gas is down 1.53%, while gold is up 0.4% at US$1,755.86 an ounce, and iron ore is also up just over 1% at US$98 a tonne.

The Aussie dollar has strengthened to buy 67.61 US cents, 93.79 Japanese Yen, 56 British Pence and NZ$1.08.

Episode 26: Bowl Preview; The Double Header

Episode 26: Bowl Preview; The Double Header
As we reach the climax of the season, Rob and Joe preview the Division 1 and Division 2 Bowls. The Double-Header event is taking place at the home of the NI Razorbacks in Newforge Sports Complex on this Sunday 31st July. The Division 2 Bowl sees the almost-perfect-season Louth Mavericks facing an Antrim Jets side that's building momentum. In the Division 1 Bowl, the UL Viking's will clash with Westmeath Minotaurs in the final chapter of their trilogy. They're 1-a-piece against each other this season, but who will take the Bowl? In this episode, the boys chat with the Razorbacks' Robbie Walker & Lyndsay McVeigh, and the Crusaders' Nathan "Mango" Mangan. Robbie Walker began playing American Football in Northern Ireland in 1987 for the Eastside Jets, before moving on the play for the Tennets Belfast Giants and a few games for the Belfast Spartans. Finally, he moved to the Craigavon Cowboys; he won the Shamrock Bowl in 1990, receiving Defensive MVP for his Bowl performance, and went on to play the Brussels Raiders the next year. He was forced into retirement at the end of that season due to a nasty knee injury. This year, Robbie was invited down to Razorbacks' training "for a look" through Head Coach Gareth "Suntan" Millar's Dad. Recently described as "my right-hand-man" by HC Suntan, Robbie is now Assistant HC of the Razorbacks, in addition to being well-and-truly hooked to football again! Lyndsay McVeigh has been in AFI for 12 years, most of which time was with the 5-time Shamrock Bowl winning Belfast Trojans. She has worked her way up from reluctant chain crew member to team videographer. This year, 2022, has been a year of firsts for Lyndsay in AFI; she has become an American Football official, a member of the AFI Communications Department, and has joined the NI Razorbacks. Lyndsay can chat football as well as anyone we've ever met. We have a phrase about Lyndsay; if football paid her, she'd be minted! Nathan "Mango" Mangan is an Offensive Lineman for the Cill Dara Crusaders. He joined shortly after their IAFL2 Bowl win, and plays flag football with the them also. He is the club's Public Relations Officer since 2021. A Patriots fan and probably the only man in Ireland with a David Andrews jersey! In this episode, Mango gives some well-needed and long-overdue love to the linemen! With special thanks to Robbie Walker, Lyndsay McVeigh and Nathan "Mango" Mangan. After winning the Tulip Bowl in the Netherlands, Irish Wolfhounds OC Andy Dennehy rejoins the team to discuss the matchups across the Premier playoffs. These feature #4 Panthers @ #1 Rebels, and #3 Admirals @ #2 UCD on Sunday, 24th July. With special thanks to Coach Andy Dennehy.

Episode 24: Down to the Wire

Episode 24: Down to the Wire

As we head into the final Gameweek of the 2022 AFI Senior Kitted Regular Season, Joe and Robbie break down the last 2 weeks of action, which included some massive scorelines, and 3 undefeated teams in Ireland being whittled down to 1. The boys also leave their predictions for who emerges from the battle for the playoffs -- and the battle for survival -- in the Premier Division.
