Book BRIEF - "8 Days Till Sunrise:  A True Story of Survival, Rebirth, and Discovering My Purpose in Life"

This is a story about a man going down a path he hadn’t intended to go down where he lost his way. He thought he was going through one of life’s difficult trials when he hit the side of a building at high speed in a skydiving accident. And that is when his real trial began. The accident left him in a coma for 8 days. He woke up from a coma to a badly broken body that required him to stay in the hospital for three and a half months, undergo 11 months of rehabilitation, and relearn to walk.  After being told by his doctor he may never be able to run again, he decided to sign up for a triathlon to test the doctor’s prognosis. Less than one year after the accident he completed a triathlon and proved the doctor wrong.  He relied on the foundation he built years before the accident to survive and recover.  He was guided by the scriptures and lessons from the Bible that he learned throughout his life.

The long journey to recovery from the accident allowed him time to reassess the direction of his life and answer the question why was his life spared. This second chance at life revealed to him a new purpose in life. He promised himself that he would share his story, and what he learned to help others that are going through difficult hardships in their own lives.

This week on the Against All Odds Radio Show, hosts Sean V. Bradley, CSP and L.A. Williams discuss how to push forward when life hits you with situations that you are not quite prepared for.  To further elaborate, Iron Mike Tyson has one of the best quotes ever, “Everyone has a plan until you get punched in the mouth.”  You have to have a plan to handle many different situations.  You may not be able to execute on that plan, but it gives you a good starting plan.  Chance favors a prepared mind, so one of the best things you can do is to think of all of the possibilities.

Joining Sean and L.A. Williams today is Paul Jimenez, a man who knows what getting punched in the face by life all too well.  Paul Jimenez is an Executive Director at Shift Digital, where he has worked since 2011.  However, it was not his career that led to this figurative punch.  It was October 2015, when his son lost his fight with pediatric cancer at ten years old.

While there is no plan that anyone could have for the loss of a child, it is what you do afterwards that measures a person’s character and ability to push forward.  In January 2016, Paul Jimenez channeled his rage, hurt, pain, frustration, anger, and many other emotions to punch back.  He founded The PaulieStrong Foundation to fight pediatric cancer and has raised over $1.7 Million to date.

Williams discuss Vice TV’s hit show, “I Was A Teenage Felon”.  Sean is the star of the season 2 finale.  His episode, “King of Clubs”, airs on November 22, 2021 at 10:00 PM EST.  Joining Sean and L.A. today is Peter “Chappy” Meyerhoff.  Peter was the star of “Shot Caller”, the 5th episode of season 2 of Vice TV’s “I Was A Teenage Felon”.

As a child, Peter Meyerhoff had the world in the palm of his hand.  Like most other children, he played sports.  On top of that, he was involved in modeling and even starred in a movie.  However, once he entered high school, everything changed.  He started using drugs and ultimately got arrested several times for stealing cars and robbing houses.  When he turned 18, Peter received a 12 year sentence in prison.

When Peter got out of prison, he was a 30 year old man with only an 8th grade education.  However, by transferring his pains from prison to drive for success, Peter hit the ground running.  This drive led to him making a couple million dollars five years later.

Then, Peter started his podcast, Roll Call with Chappy.  His podcast helps motivate people, as well as telling his story across prisons and jails across the country.  Additionally, Peter owns his own clothing company, Sobr Life Clothing.  Peter’s goals are to motivate people when he speaks using the mental strength he acquired in solitary confinement, helping people get sober, and change the recidivism rate by showing people what’s really possible with the right drive and no excuses.

Bradley, CSP knows this story all too well.  After spending six years in prison, he is now owns several multi-million dollar companies and is the star of Vice TV’s hit TV show, “I Was A Teenage Felon” season 2.  Airing November 22nd at 10:00 PM EST, his episode, “King of Clubs” is the season 2 finale.

Joining Sean and L.A. this week is Marcus “Big Herc” Timmons.  As a child, Big Herc never got into trouble.  He was a straight A student with a 4.0 student and wanted to be a professional skateboarder.  However, there came a point where he was not able to afford everything he needed for skateboarding, which led him to basketball.  Through basketball, he got more related to the drug game, and eventually started to sell drugs.  Big Herc got involved in the gang life and ended up spending 3 years in prison for being an accessory to a home invasion.  

After his 3 year prison sentence, Big Herc got into the adult film industry and went back to college.  From there, he started selling weed, which led to involvement in other drugs.  Then, he got involved in a bank robbery, which landed him a 120 month prison sentence.

Big Herc eventually turned his life around.  He was a star of Vice Tv’s hit show, “I Was A Teenage Felon” in season 1.  He has over 300 million views on his two YouTube Channels, Fresh Out and Big Herc 916.  His podcast, Fresh Out Series: Life After The Penitentiary, is also a giant success.  The whole point of the series is to show many that there is hope, and it doesn’t mean that you are not capable of accomplishments.

About Karl Mecklenburg

In 1983, Karl “The Snow Goose” Macklenburg turned the field into his stage when he was the 12th round draft, 310th pick choice for the Denver Broncos. As the NFL’s Most Versatile Player, Mecklenburg played all seven defensive front positions which occurred multiple times in a single game throughout the season. After playing in the superbowl three times, Karl decided to change his focus to public speaking. While he has been off the field for 27 years, Karl Mecklenburg has created an inspirational platform as a keynote speaker for his Mecklenburg Motivation organization.
