Episode 5: Two Incredible Stories of Sole Survivors Juliane Koepcke and Ada Blackjack Johnson

Come gather around the campfire and let me tell you about two incredible stories of survival. Juliane Koepcke and Ada Blackjack Johnson lived 50 years and 7,000 miles apart. One of them fell two miles into the Amazon rainforest after her plane was struck by lighting. The other survived multiple years in the remote icy tundra of an uninhabited Siberian island as part of an ill-fated Canadian expedition. Both were driven to survive by their deep love for their families. And both of them used every bit of their strength, smarts, and grit to make it through these terrible tests.

The Beauty Queen Killer + Vesna Vulovic

Welcome to the second episode of Wild Society!

At the beginning of 1984, Christopher Bernard Wilder went on a 6 week cross-country murder spree. Wilder was an Australian emigrant who had an interest in photography. He used his photography skills to lure women to their ultimate and unfortunate deaths. Wilder travelled all over the US approaching women, landing himself on the FBI’s Top 10 Most Wanted List.

In part two of this episode we learn about Vesna Vulovic, the woman who fell 33,330 feet. On January 26th, 1972, flight attendant Vesna Vulovic boarded JAT flight 367 in Copenhagen en-route to Zagreb, Croatia. Little did she know she was about to become the most famous flight attendant in history.

#33 - We SURVIVED Gear Down Water Landings

As a ten year old boy, Ron went on a short joy flight in a C185 amphibian floatplane. As they came into land on the water, Ron had no idea he was moments away from taking his last breath in the baggage compartment of an upturned, sinking aircraft.

Flying as a young commercial pilot, Pat was flying the company C206 on a busy, blue skied day at the Geelong Waterfront enjoying his new career flying floats. Landing on the pristine Corio Bay water, Pat went from pilot to rescuer as he had seconds to spare to save his passengers lives from an overturned seaplane.

These two stories will inspire you to check the gear many times before committing a landing onto the water in an amphibian aircraft.
