21 - Creative Insight From A Rural Occupational Therapist With Louise Whitton

Do you know what… general society shouldn’t dictate what you market for. It shouldn’t tell you what your goals are. It shouldn’t be the reason for your actions.

And yet somehow along the way, we forget that we set the intention of our business. That instead of focusing on advertising for more clients for example, that maybe we should break away from society’s expectations, and advertise for incredibly aligned employees. That maybe the goal isn’t to have a million followers but in actual fact it's to make the biggest difference for just one person. That maybe we pursue something we love because we are passionate about it and not be forced to take the road that many have taken before us because it's proven.

YOU set the intention of your business and that should be based off what you want.

In today’s episode I chat with one incredible lady about her adventures as an occupational therapist. You will discover that there are more ways than one for creating a rural business that doesn’t want to fit the box. A business that wants to intentionally be different, stand out and create their own pathway forward.

The Story Behind HotDoc with CEO and Founder, Ben Hurst

The Story Behind HotDoc with CEO and Founder, Ben Hurst

HotDoc is Australia's largest and most trusted patient engagement platform with over 21,000 listed doctors and 8 million active patients.

In 2012, Ben Hurst founded HotDoc as a way to better connect clinics and clinicians with their patients. His idea came from conversations had around the dinner table with his Mum (a GP) and his Dad (an ENT specialist) who spoke often of being bogged down in administration and at a loss when it came to keeping in contact with patients once they had left the clinic.

With the dream of building a platform that would allow health practitioners to keep their patients engaged between visits to the clinic, HotDoc began first as an online booking directory. Over time the platform has grown to a suite of products that help clinics not only keep their existing patients engaged, but attract new patients, improve their efficiency, and better the patient experience.

Ben shares his personal story with Chris, covering what it took to get HotDoc to where it is now, the HealthTech landscape and what we can expect from HotDoc in the future!

    Understanding Work Incentives Benefits Counseling

Research has shown that many individuals with intellectual disabilities have a strong desire to work in competitive integrated employment. At the same time, many of them are also recipients of benefits from disability supports such as Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), state or federal workers compensation, and public healthcare programs such as Medicare and Medicaid. Understanding the impact that paid employment will have on a person’s disability benefits is an important factor in the success of the individual.

Understanding Climate Change & Carbon Neutral Strategies

Understanding Climate Change & Carbon Neutral Strategies

We’re going in-house this episode with our very own Process Documentation Officer here at Nacre Consulting – Ben Reich. As he is also studying Atmospheric Science at Monash University, it only seemed fitting to have a chat with Ben about climate change, renewable energy, and carbon-neutral strategies.

You’ll hear exactly what Ben’s studying and how this gives him such an insight into climate change and what we must do as human beings to go more sustainable and make a positive impact. We discuss his thoughts on how Nacre can go more carbon-neutral, challenges of tracking your own carbon footprint, carbon offsetting, having personal responsibility, and the next big steps he envisions for Nacre in the upcoming 6 months.

    Topics covered on going carbon-neutral:

    • Climate change
    • Carbon offsetting
    • Tracking your carbon footprint

The Private Practice Made Perfect podcast is a much loved conversation for those wanting to hear real life Australian Allied Health business stories, adventures and the occasional confession.

The outstanding guest list includes business owners and wonderful small business supporters such as accountants, marketers, bookkeepers, IT wizards, virtual assistants, lawyers and more.

As you know, it takes a village to run a business. Cathy gathers the tribe, captures the collective wisdom and conveniently delivers it to your earbuds.

All episodes are chatty, honest and practical… warning… we often stray from the topic, talk of wine and laugh loudly.
