    Leaders and Aloneness – TPS517

    Leaders and Aloneness – TPS517

Today I talk about something that has begun to really interest me – the inner world of people in leadership positions of all kinds. When thinking or speaking about leaders, we don’t often examine their emotional expression and development, even though their habitual emotions affect all of their decisions.

    Highlights

    • I talk about how I have developed meaningful relationships with people online.
    • People are often taught that there is something wrong with them that needs fixing, and I don’t subscribe to that.
    • Feelings that are common among leaders include feeling alone and feeling like an outsider.
    • For some leaders, it’s dangerous to let people know what’s really going on inside of you and how you really feel about yourself and your followers.
    • This creates a feeling of separation, and we have an inherent need for connection.
    • Becoming a leader is sometimes a coping mechanism for dealing with life.
    • I think it’s important for leaders to recognize their own deep-seated feelings of aloneness.
    • Aloneness often leads people to become members of groups that don’t have the interests of society at heart.
    • In order to be a person of peace, you have to find peace within yourself.
    • One of the things that interest me is bringing together entrepreneurial leaders who often feel separated so they can learn how to really feel connected on an authentic level.
    • If you’re going to learn how to develop empathy, you also have to learn how to set boundaries, so you don’t take responsibility for other people’s problems.

    The Power of Aloneness

    The Power of Aloneness

In this week’s How To Series, I look at a major breakthrough you can have in your power column: the power of aloneness. When you feel lonely or alone in a bad way, it obviously doesn’t feel good. But the upside of aloneness comes when you are living in the power column.

When your core narrative is in place, you will understand who you are at your essence and you’ll remember that no one else has a say in any of it. Through having that fully formed relationship with yourself, you can unlock a great power: you are on your own journey and no one else is in charge of anything!

In a sense, this is true self-empathy, because you recognize that only you CAN be fully empathic to yourself. You are the only one who knows it all and, don’t forget, it’s your body that knows and represents it best of all. Your body is never wrong about your journey!

It Is Not Good for Singles to Be Alone

It Is Not Good for Singles to Be Alone

Part 3 of the series, "Marriage and Singleness." The word "single" certainly seems to be associated with the word "alone." Whether you're single as a young person, never married but still want to be, whether you've lost a spouse due to death, separation, or divorce, or whether you look at your singleness as a lifetime calling––being single can leave a hole in your life that you constantly want filled. How can a single person view their aloneness, their place in God's Kingdom, their desire for wholeness that seems to come only from marriage and romantic relationships? Is there anything they can do to remedy these problems for however long they're single? This message attempts to answer these questions, both for the single person, but also for the church who is called to love, value, and support single people in their desire for purpose and relationship.

    The Gift of Singleness

    The Gift of Singleness

Part 2 of the series, "Marriage and Singleness." Some people are just fine being single. They are perfectly content with their place in life and frankly, don't want to be patronized or felt sorry for based on their marital status. For others though, being single certainly has its challenges. For those who want to be married, there is a longing for that future spouse. For those single due to tragic events like the death of a spouse, separation, or divorce, the pain can be even more acute. So, to hear that singleness might be called a gift could understandably seem a bit offensive. This message looks biblically at those who are single and in what way this place in life could be considered a gift. God gives us many things. both directly and within our life circumstances. Is it possible that your place as a single person can be considered a gift to him, to yourself, and to others? Arriving at this truth, if accepted, may be eternally liberating.
