Revelation 1-5 | Don't Be Scared of This Book

Revelation 1-5 | Don't Be Scared of This Book

Are you ready to shatter the mystique surrounding the Book of Revelation and discover its true promise of hope? That's exactly what we're unpacking in our latest episode. Join us as we conclude our year-long biblical journey with an insightful look at Revelation's apocalyptic imagery and prophetic visions. We delve into the original context and the hopeful messages intended for its readers, challenging the modern-day misconceptions of fear and trepidation. The episode paints a vivid picture of the early Christian communities' struggles through the letters to the seven churches, and we discuss the call for repentance that resonates as much today as it did in ancient times.

Imagine a door before you, behind which lies the wisdom to transform your faith. We take a moment to ponder Jesus' metaphor of knocking on the door, inviting believers to look beyond the distractions of wealth and comfort to a more earnest relationship with Him. Our exploration continues into the majestic heavenly throne room scene, where the fullness of the Holy Spirit and the incredible worship of the 24 elders and angels captivate the senses. The episode transcends the mere interpretation of apocalyptic visions, instead prompting a reflection on divine sovereignty and the holistic representation of the Spirit's presence.

The crescendo of our discussion reaches the vision of the Lamb, worthy to open the scroll with seven seals. This chapter is not just a revelation but an invitation to marvel at the theological depth embodied in the lamb's appearance and to join in the new song of praise that echoes through the heavens. As your hosts, we guide you through these richly layered metaphors, encapsulating the lamb's sacrifice and triumph, which culminate in a universal celebration of redemption. This episode isn't just a lesson on scripture—it's a transformative experience inviting you to find your part in the grand narrative of faith.

Revelation 1-5 introduces the apocalyptic visions received by John on the island of Patmos.

In Chapter 1, John encounters a vision of Jesus Christ in His glory, who commissions him to write what he sees and sends messages to the seven churches.

Chapters 2 and 3 contain specific messages to each of these seven churches, praising their faithfulness or calling them to repentance based on their actions and dedication.

In Chapter 4, John witnesses a breathtaking vision of the heavenly throne room, describing God's glory and the worship surrounding His presence. The chapter highlights the significance of God's sovereignty over all creation.

Chapter 5 reveals a scene where a scroll sealed with seven seals cannot be opened by anyone except Jesus, symbolizing His authority and role as the only one

What Does Jesus Want His Church to Be? Part 1 - Jesus Appears to John

What Does Jesus Want His Church to Be? Part 1 - Jesus Appears to John

If you are wondering what Jesus' church should look like, you are not alone.  Fortunately for us, Jesus did not leave it a mystery.  In the book of Revelation chapters 1 to 3, Jesus Himself appears to the apostle John and gives him a message to share with  seven churches in Asia: Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamos, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea.  These messages give us powerful insights into what Jesus wants out of His church.  In part 1 of this series, we look at Jesus' appearance to John and lay the foundation for understanding the messages to come.

    Eternal [Signs of Life 07]

Our family shapes who we are in ways we are hardly even conscious of most of the time. We come from extended families with their own stories, histories and patterns. But are we in Jesus’ family? In this family obedience is not because we earn something from Jesus. It’s because, as Jesus says, his words, his instructions, his design, IS eternal life. Obedience to Jesus doesn’t just give us access to life. It is life. And you know this because Jesus obeys. Jesus constantly obeys. In fact, if you really look at Jesus’ words about himself, he is constantly reminding us that his real power comes from obedience to and dependence on His Father. Obedience is the life we want to live. Being a part of Jesus’ family means that our obedience and love for his words grow over time. Is your love of Jesus’ words increasing? Do we read his word and want to obey?

    Dwell #61: So Long, 2020 - Vera & Natalie

"Who is, and who was, and who is to come."
What a comfort this December verse is! 2020 has been a doozy, y'all. But, we haven't walked this crazy road alone. God, in his unchanging character, has met us time and time again.

As we chose our 2020 memory verses last year, we could never have imagined how perfectly timed they would be! We have already prayed over and chosen our 2021 verses- and we promise we only picked realllly light hearted, easy ones! Just kidding (but we are praying that 2021 is kinder to us all!). We are so grateful that you're here learning scripture with us and listening as we introduce our December verse, Revelation 1:8:
