Great concept, great cast, great directors/writers but a great failure.. There are ups and downs to using a horror movie generator to pick your next film to watch and this film has proven that. I didn't understand the intensity because nothing followed it. I wished more for this film but doesn't mean the Duffer Brothers lost in any way!

    Episode 35: Mandy

    Episode 35: Mandy

This week on Remainders we continue Cage Fest with the 2018 metal-revenge nightmare Mandy. Red and Mandy are living a serene life in the Pacific Northwest woods when a demonic cult sets their target on them and destroys everything they know and love. Red, in an all-time great Cage performance, is forced to descend into madness in a pursuit for revenge. Biker monsters will snort coke, Cage will forge metal, and Cheddar Goblin will be had by all.

Other topics this week include the lighter side of Cage’s performances, his upcoming take on Dracula in Renfield, Gore Verbinski’s filmography, Darren’s chance encounter with C.J. Ramone, and Shudder and Criterion Channel as Remainders essentials.

At the top of the episode, Angie tells us all about her amazing trip to Costa Rica and what she got up to over the break. Steffi has nothing to report because she leads a very uninteresting life.

In this episode we discuss the Oscar 2023 nominations & snubs, the latest tour announcements, post-cheater jams, deaths that happened over the break, upcoming biopic news, and our predictions for Rihanna’s imminent Super Bowl halftime show performance.

EPISODE 124: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN

A-Block (1:41) SPECIAL COMMENT: At a time when the all the forces that can be brought to bear against democracy, against diversity, against more voters more often in more convenient ways, are being brought; when the liberal viewpoint on cable news has never more important, has never been under greater threat from both market-forces and more transparent fascism; when the premise of such 24/7 coverage has never been closer to extinction, the people running the last surviving liberal and moderate outlets have the solution to the crisis: MSNBC will give you more Matt Gaetz and Lauren Boebert guest hits, and CNN is going to bring you, in prime time, once a week... Gayle King!

B-Block (22:37) EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY: Akira in New York (23:36) POSTSCRIPTS TO THE NEWS: Oh, NOW CBS reports that days after Biden's lawyers first found documents, they invited the FBI to search the Think Tank; Santos recusing from committees; McCarthy thinks this'll give him time to "clear things up" LOL; Military Coup in Moscow? And self-referential news: a million downloads in one month! (26:56) IN SPORTS: When you're turning to Hope Hicks to help your image, your image is in baaaaad shape. And that 13-year old Women's Basketball JV player? She was just a little old (30:16) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Jesse Watters accidentally speaks the truth, the Schlapp victim sues again, and actress Andrea Riseborough gets away with it.

C-Block (34:48) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: 16 years ago, then Senator Joe Biden invited me to lunch to ask my advice. About what? What did I care? He asked for my ADVICE! Actually it was about converting anger into righteous indignation and I take no credit for this but I will ask you: when was the last time you heard somebody throw the old charge at him that he's a "hot head?"

"Great White Voice" (w/ Bonnie Milligan)

"Great White Voice" (w/ Bonnie Milligan)

Sound the alarm and belt to the high heavens because, God?! Today on the podcast is Bonnie Milligan! The star of the incredible hit Broadway musical Kimberly Akimbo joins Matt & Bowen after some quick updates (we did not yet watch #ReFroWeHo, Matt went to Sundance and Disney World, Bowen battled through a cold to play George Santos) to talk working with legends like Victoria Clark, Jeanine Tesori and David Lindsay Abaire on this new show, vocal health and making good choices while singing *and* speaking, the value of both being and being *around* a loud laugher, the great diva voices of the 90's, The Rocky Horror Picture Show as an influence on little performances at recess, and the journey that Bonnie (who currently holds the distinction of singing the highest belted note on Broadway) took to finally realize herself as a BELTRESS. Also, the girls witchily predict Andrea Riseborough's Best Actress Oscar nomination for To Leslie and love even more on two It Girls of the moment: M3GAN and Stephanie Hsu (CONGRATULATIONS, FLARGE!) They also get into "snub" culture, "sirens in pop songs" culture, and ask the question on everyone's lips: when the hell can we watch A Diva's Christmas Carol starring Vanessa Williams as Ebony Scrooge?! Listening to this ep? Will make your life... better! #IYKYK

‘The Passenger’ with ‘Luxor’ Director Zeina Durra

This week we are joined by the phenomenal writer and director Zeina Durra. She’s on the program to discuss Michelangelo Antonioni’s The Passenger. Zeina elaborates on how this film influenced her latest movie Luxor. She goes on to discuss the production of her most recent movie, shooting in Egypt, and how cigarette breaks almost sabotaged her production schedule. Zeina also chats about her research in making the film, interviewing nurses on the Jordanian/ Syrian border and hearing the horrific, literal “Sophie’s Choice” situations that women face in the region. Lastly, she talks about showing The Passenger to her children and how Disney has destroyed their movie palettes.
