Gru's Family prepares for a heist in first 'Despicable Me 4' trailer

Gru's Family prepares for a heist in first 'Despicable Me 4' trailer
The beloved Despicable Me franchise is making a return with Despicable Me 4, set to hit theatres on July 3, 2024. The newly released trailer showcases the familiar characters, including Gru voiced by Steve Carell, Lucy Wilde voiced by Kristen Wiig, and the mischievous Minions. In this instalment, Gru faces the challenge of balancing his anti-villain activities while navigating family dynamics, introducing his estranged twin brother and mother into the mix. The storyline promises a blend of humor, action, and family themes, with the Minions adding their trademark chaos to the adventure. Directed by Chris Renaud and Patrick Delage, Despicable Me 4 aims to continue the franchise's success, with animation director Renaud returning after a decade. The film's screenplay, crafted by Mike White, suggests a potential infusion of unique humour into the beloved series.

    Magnus Atom

    Magnus Atom

With a name like Magnus Atom, I had a feeling I was going to be talking with someone extraordinary. This award-winning motion graphics designer and commercial artist has an impressive roster of clients, including Headspace, Viceland, Playboy, MTV, and Lil Uzi Vert. On top of that, he recently received a coveted Young Guns award! Very impressive!

I caught up with Magnus a few months after his win, and he talked about working as an animation director with Strange Beast and settling down in upstate New York after a recent stint in Miami. He also spoke about going to the "Fame" high school in NYC, how his father inspired him to be an artist, and what he's got his sights set on for this year. With a name like Magnus Atom, I've got a feeling we'll definitely hear more from him in the future!

027: Aaron Ray - Moving on after doing the Legwork

027: Aaron Ray - Moving on after doing the Legwork

In this episode, Gabe talks with Aaron Ray, an independent animation director, and designer with an inclination towards illustrative design and character-based work. Previously he was a creative director at Legwork, a studio that he co-founded in 2007, where he directed, designed and animated commercial content for brands and agencies. During our conversation we talk about opening Legwork Studio (which has an interesting story behind the name and a little surprise for you during the interview) with several partners and fellow artists then choosing to close the doors after 11 years, four key things he would do differently with a new studio, and advice for younger up-and-coming artists that have much different things to deal with in today’s world.
