Sexism, misogyny in popular cinema has real-life implications

Sexism, misogyny in popular cinema has real-life implications

There’s been a spate of films that glorify sexism and misogyny, and reinforce gender stereotypes. The problem is that popular cinema often defines what’s cool, so stalking, harassment and even violence against women are seen as permissible or even macho.

Gender activists have pointed to the link between such cinematic portrayals and real-life crimes. While popular cinema may be a reflection of existing social norms, filmmakers must get more responsible about gender portrayals. And audiences must get more discerning.

    Bengaluru Is Crumbling

    Bengaluru Is Crumbling

Our favourite go-to gifting shop, Archies, is reportedly shifting its focus online with the help of its e-commerce website, archiesonline.com. The website will sell items like flowers, cakes, and personalised gifts. In other news, Bengaluru is living a nightmare. Heavy overnight rains turned Bengaluru's streets into rivers, causing severe water logging, gridlock, and power outages that have put the city's regular operations on hold.

    187: "Le Jour D'Amour"

    187: "Le Jour D'Amour"

Why does 3J sound like he's 40? Which one of Eddie's ex-girlfriends is that? And why can't Carl do ONE THING right? We dance our way through these questions and more as we watch Season 8, Episode 18 of Family Matters.

Alex Diamond, David Kenny, and John McDaniel heard that the long-running network sitcom Family Matters ends with side character Steve Urkel going to space. And the best way to figure out how that happened - obviously - is to watch the last episode first and make our way backwards through nearly ten years of television.
