Hot off the Press: Discussing the Latest Publication on Suture Augmented ACL Repair with Dr. Douoguih

Hot off the Press: Discussing the Latest Publication on Suture Augmented ACL Repair with Dr. Douoguih

In this special episode, Dr. Douoguih shares about his most recently accepted publication titled “Suture augmented ACL repair for proximal avulsion or high-grade partial tears shows similar side-to-side difference and no clinical differences at 2 years versus conventional ACL reconstruction for near-complete and mid-substance tears or poor ACL tissue quality” in The Journal of Arthroscopic and Related Surgery.

This is the first Level II prospective study published out of the USA, comparing ACL repair with Internal Brace Augmentation (ACLR-IB) to conventional ACL Reconstruction (CACL-R). Dr. Douoguih shares that he has been performing this surgery over the last 9 years on select patients with proximal avulsion injuries. “This study is the culmination of a concerted effort to increase the level of evidence available in support of this novel technique” says Dr. Douoguih.

If you’re a clinician, it’s important to stay up to date on the procedures that exist for ACL Reconstruction and Repair and understand how it affects post op rehabilitation. Listen in to hear the evolution of this procedure from a pioneer in the orthopaedic surgery field!!!

Ep 76: Friday Food Cast - How Weight Loss Articles Send the Wrong Messages

Ep 76: Friday Food Cast - How Weight Loss Articles Send the Wrong Messages

This Friday Food Cast is all about how weight loss articles send the wrong message. We dive into a specific article about how to lose weight with PCOS. This article was reviewed by an intern at TD Wellness, Destiny Gresham. She looked into some of the science research for a few of the points and did a deep dive into how the article’s author came to the conclusions that were made. As David shares her article review he keeps the questions coming looking at the article with a curios eye.

At first glance the helpful tips make sense and are good general suggestions for managing PCOS. The article suggests things like getting plenty of fiber, practice mindful eating, get enough sleep, manage your stress, and exercise to name a few. BUT when you start to read the article it becomes obvious that each point is honed in on losing weight for health, as if losing the weight will directly affect the symptoms of PCOS. Then we discuss the specific research Destiny reviewed and the findings do not speak to the same level or certainty as the article does about weight loss and PCOS. In fact, Destiny’s findings reveal several holes in the articles referenced science.

PCOS is short for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, a hormonal disorder causing enlarged ovaries with small cysts on the outer edges. Symptoms of this disorder include weight gain, menstrual irregularity, excess hair growth, and acne.

I can't wait for you to take a listen and let me know what you think. I hope you enjoy.

Minisode 1.3 - Winter Is Coming

    This week, Kristen Hayer reviews:

Office morale can be tough to maintain during the winter and usually gets the support of holiday parties and vacation, but what methods can you use during a global pandemic to keep your team engaged and positive?

Over the holiday season we will be releasing shorter "minisodes" in which Kristen will be reviewing articles instead of books. Season 2 will start in January, and while I have some books in mind I'd love suggestions as well. Email me at kristen@thesuccessleague.io
