Episode 102 with Melissa Friedman - Natural Connection Through Yoga and Art

We hope you enjoy this conversation about all things yoga and bodywork with Melissa Friedman.

Follow Melissa on IG @themedicinebeads and @nectarofthebee

    About Melissa
Influenced in my early yoga days by concepts of Iyengar and Ashtanga lineages, Vipassana meditation, and the study of structural bodywork, my yoga practice was cemented through a dedication to the Ashtanga system which since 2003, has taken me on journeys around the world to study with senior teachers.  I am forever grateful to my teachers Victoria Laws, Annie Pace, R. Sharath Jois, Ruth Harting, Lee Joseph, Christopher Beaver, Dawn Eagle Woman, and the teachings of S.N. Goenka among others for some of most my profound learning journeys. I consider my path as a mother to my daughter and puppy dog to be my greatest teacher, and greatest gift, yet. I aspire to meet my students where they are in the support of healing and growth. I am in the process of obtaining my E-500 RYT status to reflect my years of study and teaching since my initial certification with Yoga Alliance in 2011.  I look forward to seeing you on the mat!

Yoga Yarns ~ Connecting with Krishna

Yoga Yarns ~ Connecting with Krishna

Welcome to this special edition podcast titled Yoga Yarns ~ Connecting with Krishna. My first introduction to yoga was when I was 18 and I met a Hare Krishna devotee. It was through this introduction that I began to practice yoga. Here I attempt to share a few stories about this time in my life and shed a little light on the culture of Krishna Consciousness. During this yoga yarn I share:

    • how I was first introduced to the yoga of the Bhagavad Gita
    • the different branches of yoga and how they differ and are similar to each other
    • my personal journey of seeking solace in yoga and the challenges that arose in contemplating becoming a devotee
    • my journey of navigating depression and how seeking yoga played into my healing
    • some of the philosophical underpinnings of the Krishna movement
    • how mantra can be used to elevate consciousness
    • and quite a bit more :)

Cory Bryant ~ Finding Peace Wherever You Are

Cory Bryant ~ Finding Peace Wherever You Are

Join this fascinating conversation I had with Cory Bryant!
During this conversation we spoke about:

    • Cory's path of finding yoga and how it has brought him peace
    • Cory's connection to Tibetan Buddhism and how he integrates it into his daily life
    • what it was like growing up gay in small country town
    • his process of speaking his truth and taking a stand for equality
    • what it is like directing the only Mysore Ashtanga program in Nashville
    • and SO MUCH MORE :)

Visit Cory on his website yogashalanashville.com
    Also on IG @yogashalanashville

Cory discovered yoga shortly after 9/11, while living in NYC —initially through a soft introduction at the Integral Hatha Yoga Institute in the West Village and then with the mind-blowing, tapas-inducing experience of Jivamukti Yoga. Since that time, pretty much everything about the way he views the world has been challenged, bringing with it transformation from a goal-oriented, judgmental, high-tempered, career-driven person to the more even-minded, compassionate person he humbly aspires to be today.
