Continuing coverage of Augury, RJ discusses the folkloric significance of birds as they relate to psychopomps. RJ and Elle discuss the practice of sky burials and maritime lore about birds. RJ retells the Rime of the Ancient Mariner and then follows that up with a mormon folktale known as the Miracle of the Gulls, which is the reason the California Gull is Utah's state bird and is venerated among mormons. Ep 53 Augury pt 1

In this series RJ and Elle discuss Augury which is the practice of divining with birds, and a few other methods, but mostly birds. RJ goes over the history of Augury as an ancient roman practice. Augers would divine from birds prior to any political action be taken and RJ goes over the political power they wielded. RJ also discusses the "One for Sorrow" nursery rhyme as it pertains to Augury. Elle performs a reading as if she were an Augur, going on the hunt for birds in the wild and divining the political future from the auspices the birds foretell.
