It's been a minute, but thought I'd hop back on the airwaves. Today's message is about giving yourself grace to try something new. With an understanding that it may not be great the first go around but can certainly lead to something bigger and better. Tune out what other people may think and just allow yourself to create what YOU like. That's when you'll find your groove and those that like it too.

Welcome to our bonus Episode this season on Authentic filters. We couldn’t leave you for several months without closing out the season with some last-minute updates. Today we are going to talk about Elon Musk and the chaos that he is causing within his new organization, Kanye West and the aftermath of what he is facing from his Antisemitic comments about Jewish people; Then we are going to pivot and chat about, Hershel Walker trying to fill the senate seat for the state of Georgia.

First and foremost, Authentic filters would like to send our condolences to the family of Migos bandmate, Takeoff. He was killed on November 1st at a bowling alley. There were others that were injured in this attack. Another senseless killing due to gun violence.

Ever since Elon Musk acquired Twitter, he has been cleaning house and making moves that only he can understand. He fired several top Executives Day 1. He let go about half of his staff and didn’t know who the CEO of Twitter was. Additionally, he gave himself a new title: Chief Twitter. He is being sued by several former employees and he wants to start a new membership program charging folks to use the Twitter application and verification checkmark.

Kanye West continues with his saga of, as he stated, “Going Def Con on Jewish People”. Companies are continuing to cut ties with Kanye and it’s not stopping him from speaking what he believes is his truth. Adidas has decided to continue with the Ye design by changing the branding. This is a true testament to how one class of folks stay rich, and another class continues to scrape by. What Adidas is attempting to do is wrong on every level and Kanye’s fanbase is not having it. They continue to support him, and they are doing everything they can to get him back to billionaire status.

Would someone, please tell Hershel Walker to go have a seat and I’m not talking about a Senate seat. Many folks in the U.S. are trying to figure out how Hershel is still in the running for Senate of Georgia.  A good number of folks are convinced that he is the right candidate for the job considering his stances on abortion rights and other issues. After having Trump as a president, the sky's the limit for those that want to be a politician with no experience or political background.

Talented but controversial, Ye has been in the spotlight for a lot of good, but also a lot of bad. It seems lately, now more than ever, he’s been on a downward spiral to rock bottom. 

In a matter of hours & days, Kanye went from being valued at over a Billion $’s to losing much of it when he went on a public rant on how he could say anything he wanted and there would be no consequences for it. Well, the Antisemitic comments were truly the straw that broke the camel’s back and the flood gates opened. 

Dropped left & right, by some of the biggest brands in the world, Ye is now on the outside looking in. We’re gonna get into some of the things he’s been doing, why he’s been doing them, and what we think would be an effective solution for him moving forward.

Working 2 & 3 jobs is nothing new, but when you’re working those jobs on someone else’s clock, it’s a hard act to keep up. And maybe, just maybe….they are connected.

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: ALWAYS BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS. Just recently a local Kansas City woman escaped what seemed to be the likes of the latest horror movie. Kidnapped, locked in a basement, and tortured for weeks on end. If you see something, say something; From the gruesome details to preventative measures, we’re diving in.

Imagine waking up, going on your morning walk, and getting shot to death by a crazed 15 year old. Not a fun vision huh? Well, it certainly wasn’t for North Carolina residence who have been traumatized by the latest Mass Shooting that took the lives of 5 and a dog by a 15 year old. We’re looking for more than thoughts and prayers; we’re looking for action and with the mid-terms coming up, it’s time to make that happen. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH and the senseless killings have got to stop.

If you’ve ever thought about starting a business, then this is the podcast you should be listening to. If you can find what you’re passionate about and if it can possibly make you money along the way, then the next step would be to turn your idea(s) into a business. 

There are several business ventures that require little start-up costs, like the candle making business, while others will require more funding to get started such as remodeling homes. Regardless, starting any new business venture, requires discipline and dedication to see it through to fruition. Any new business ideas that you know nothing about will entail a level of educating yourself to have a better understanding of how to get started. 

Things to think about when starting a new business:

• Write down your ideas
• How do I get started?
• What service or product are you going to provide?
• Will you be able to generate income from this business idea?
• How much will it cost to jump start your business?
• Where will your funding come from?
• Network with others that are already in the business and/or that share the same vision as you

The series, “The Sweet Life”, is about a group of smart, young entrepreneurs that are trying to find their way through life, by making a name for themselves. This series is fresh, real, humorous,  and authentic. A truly must see.

The next time you go out to eat, be sure to tip off the subtotal and not the total of the bill. I don’t think many people know this or pay attention to it. If your bill has the gratuity amount listed at the bottom of the bill, make sure to recalculate to ensure the amount listed is correct.

Serena Williams gave an outstanding performance at the 2022 U.S. Open. She dominated in both the first and second round. Even though Serena lost in the third round to Ajla Tomljanovic, she goes down in history as the G.O.A.T in the Tennis world.

Stacey Dash had a moment of clarity. She just learned that DMX passed away. DMX has been gone for almost a year now. Let’s all pray for Stacey.

Quiet quitting is the new trend right now. Folks are only working their regular schedule hours and doing the bare minimum to keep their job. Will this be the new norm or will employers catch on and demand more from the employees.

The “Games of Thrones” may be no more, but the prequel is proving to live up to its name, “House of the Dragon.” Let the reign of House Targaryen begin.

Big Brother, Season 24 is bringing all the drama and we are all here for it. Last season, the Cookout made history with the last 7 remaining houseguest being African Americans. While Kyle assumes that this season was going to copy the previous season, Kyle finds himself in the hot seat for insensitive racist remarks that causes the houseguest to step up and do the right thing.

Flooding in Mississippi is not getting better. Many folks have lost everything, and they have nowhere to go. The President declared the State a Natural Disaster. If you would like to donate, please reach out to either the Red Cross, United Way, or another reputable charity.

Lastly, a Kansas City pastor decided to put his congregation on blast by telling them they were poor, busted, and broke for not buying him a luxury Movado watch. I’m not sure who he is working for or representing, but it’s not the work of GOD.

It’s been over 3 months since the horrific tragedy that took place in Uvalde, TX in which 19 children and 2 adults lost their lives from gun violence. There’s no way to truly measure the amount of hurt & pain the families and community feel, but there is a way to hold people responsible. And it appears, that’s exactly what is happening with the former School District Chief of police “Pete Arredondo”. The man who should’ve sent officers in to try and stop the crazed gunman much sooner than he did and has at least 21 innocent lives lost under his tenure. 

Switching gears, we are breaking down the recent decision by the Biden Administration to offer relief on student loans up to $20k for those that qualify. Key words “UP TO”. Will that be enough, or should the Administration do more? Finally, let’s dive into the recession and what we’ve noticed in our everyday lives as having gone up due to inflation. We’ll discuss simple ways in which you can cut back on your spending but still live a fulfilling life.

Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson split after only 9 months of dating. Some knew the inevitable was bound to happen, while others were cheering for them from the sidelines. Did Kim lower her standards to try something different that she had hoped would work out for the long haul or was the age gap between them a problem to begin with? 

On another note, an important key element to building character and navigating your way through life is starting with having an education. Without it, making decisions might become challenging; however, with it, choices are abundant. Teachers are the resource that is needed to help our kids with becoming good people. They serve as mentors, sponsors, advocates, and friends to many of us. So why is there now a shortage of over 200,000 teachers in the United States?  

In addition, there is also an 83% shortage of bus drivers. For many low-income and middle-income families, this could be the only means of transportation for their kids to get to school. 

One thing we know, Teachers and Bus Drivers are severely underpaid. They are required to do a lot for a little and now our children may feel the effects.

With student loans coming due soon, many borrowers have yet to see relief. President Biden is deciding on the amount he will forgive and if the pause on student loans will be extended. Either way, this doesn’t fix the debt situation that many are facing. It’s only a temporary fix to a larger problem and not a long-term solution that is needed.

At local Northeast Middle School,  a 14-year-old was stabbed multiple times by another student and later died from his injuries. Our condolences go out to the family for this sad, tragic loss. People  need to be held accountable when they are measures in place that are not being followed by school officials. This school had resource officers, medal detectors, and the students were required to carry clear backpacks. The school administrators failed, other students failed and as a result of their careless actions, this promising young man is no longer with us.

The War in Ukraine is not ending anytime soon. Russia has made a threat against the United States by stating that if we continue to provide aid and resources to Ukraine that we will suffer unpredictable consequences. Vladimir Putin also made a statement saying that he feels this war is the noble thing to do. Who is going to step up and stop this evil?

While crime is on the rise, many analysts are trying to figure out what is the cause for the uptick in theft. During the beginning of the pandemic, the government infused a lot of money into the country which in turn lifted  folks living in poverty to middle class. Victims are sharing their stories on social media platforms on how thieves are disrupting their lives and we're just trying to figure out how and why.

Over the past 2 years, 47 million people have quit their jobs. Why and how do people continue to leave the workforce without another job in hand? Employers are still struggling to find top talent to fill their job openings. Folks still want a more flexible schedule that will allow for them to work more hours remote or full time remote. California is looking to adopt a 4-day work week that would allow for employees to work 32 hours a week and any hours over that would be overtime pay. If companies can offer this benefit to employees, it might encourage folks to get back in the workforce and show that more organizations are listening to their employees and trying to find ways to continue to offer a more work life balance for their employees.

At the top of the pandemic, many businesses were applying for the PPP and EIDL loans. However, it didn’t take long for individuals to figure out how to game the system and take advantage of the process. It was recently reported through Bizjournals.com that roughly 90 billion dollars have been paid out in fraudulent applications. 

Currently, there are District Attorneys (DA’s) throughout several states that are going through the applications that were approved in their state to determine which applications were approved in error. Upon discovery, many of these DA’s are seeing red flags and are questioning how these applications got pushed through the verification process. 

After much research, these DA’s are making a clear point to go after every applicant that lied and defrauded the government during a world pandemic. People are being charged, convicted, and doing time for committing wire fraud and money laundering. Many of the sentences seem to range from 18 to 51 months in prison for the crimes committed.

This should serve as a message to everyone, that every action has a reaction whether good or bad whether intentional or unintentional.

Smash and Grabs

You’ve probably seen the crazy videos of groups of people banning together to rob high-end luxury and electronic stores across the country. Most notably, in California and some surrounding areas. Happening in split seconds groups of 10+ people brazenly bum-rush these places and try to take as much as they can. 

Surely this isn’t what our society has come to. People doing what they want when they want and thinking there are no consequences behind it. We as a country are better than that; we as people are better than that. 

Agencies Reloaded

It’s been over 21 months since we applied for the EIDL program with the SBA in the Covid-19 relief. We’ve been denied multiple times for reasons that didn’t match up to the previous and we’re now in our final request for reconsideration.

A program that was supposed to exist to help small business in a time of a global pandemic has failed in many ways to help thousands of people that were forced to close for good. Only time will tell if we get approved. 

With a backup of millions of tax returns, the IRS has been in a mess for quite some time. An institution that has been around for decades, one would think their systems would be able to handle the workload, but that certainly doesn’t seem to be the case. 

Finally, as the Biden Administration tries to enforce vaccine shots for all Federal workers and other sectors, it appears they are offering a safety net of sorts for those that choose not to get vaccinated for whatever reason and loose their jobs. Unemployment benefits. Could this incentivize those holding out to continue to do so knowing they’ll at least have some form of payment coming in? And for how long will it last before it’s cut off?

Rebuilding America

Late Friday night on November 5th, the Democrats finally got an Infrastructure Bill passed. The initiative to Build Back Better is a huge undertaking, but one that the country as a whole needs. New highways, bridges, railroads; commitment to combating climate change and investing in services such as high speed internet for all and EV charging stations isn’t a “political” thing, it’s a “better future for all” thing. 

America has consistently been at the forefront of innovation in the world, which is why it’s one of the best places to live. We’ve also been a leader among nations who look to us for insights on doing the right thing. Well, this is the right thing; not just for some, but for all. This is a win for America...this is a win for the world.

Another Senseless Killing

The African American community continues to struggle with, The Senseless Killings of promising black people at the hands of police officers.

On August 5, 2016, Jamarion Robinson a 26-year-old African American man who was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia was shot 59 times and killed during an attempted fugitive arrest in Georgia.

After years of protesting and demanding justice, five years later, the officers responsible for Jamarion’s murder are being charged with his death. One of the officer’s is U.S. Marshal, Eric Heinze and the other is a Clayton County police officer, Kristopher Hutchens.

The family of Jamarion is thankful that this tragic incident is getting media attention and the officers that are responsible for this heinous crime are finally being charged. We hope and pray that his family is vindicated, and that justice is served for Jamarion.
