We Are Family w/ Artem Chigvintsev

Without a doubt, we are thankful that Artem is sitting in on this week’s episode of the Bellas Podcast!

It’s been a busy few weeks for everyone; Nikki & Brie have been running around the country doing photo shoots, podcast tapings, and celebrating their birthdays, while Artem has been winding down season 31 of Dancing with the Stars.

The three of them Open Up with thoughts on getting older, what makes them happy now, and cooking assignments for Thanksgiving dinner. Brie wants to embrace all of Thanksgiving before decorating for Christmas and got some sticker shock when she was looking to spread some holiday cheer in her neighborhood.

Then Artem gets into being eliminated from Dancing with the Stars, what the viewers didn’t get to see on the show, how Heidi D’Amelio really impressed him on the dance floor and his frustrations with going home earlier than he wanted. And now that Len is leaving, could we see Judge Artem giving out scores every Monday night on the show???

Nikki and Artem also talk about the joy of being newlyweds and seeing a different side of Artem on “Nikki Bella Says I Do” when it airs on E! early next year.

The episode closes out with Artem’s pick for Inspiration & Affirmation, which Nikki & Brie definitely connect with. Then the three of them go around and share what they’re all grateful for this Thanksgiving.

Episode 80 with Mary Murphy - Ballroom Champion, Choreographer, So You Think You Can Dance Judge

Episode 80 with Mary Murphy - Ballroom Champion, Choreographer, So You Think You Can Dance Judge

The #HotTamaleTrain joins us for episode 80! Mary is known by most fans as the beloved ballroom expert judge/choreographer on FOX's So You Think You Can Dance. As always, we do our Jewcy diligence and get to know Mary beyond what you might know her as on television. She opens up about her childhood and upbringing, as well as her background within physical education and athletics, which eventually led her to ballroom. One momentous story Mary shares is about when she was first starting out in ballroom. Her teacher brought her to a very prestigious ballroom dance competition in the US to show her what is possible within the industry. Mary took one look at the dancers and vowed to herself right there and then that she would be a ballroom dance champion!

She goes into the experiences she had and what eventually led her to opening her own dance studio in San Diego, California. She reflects on the contrast of the dance industry and what has changed with kids/teens coming up in the world of dance. Mary also speaks about the impact the industry has seen due to COVID, including halting the most recent production of SYTYCD and the unknowns for when it will be green-lit to resume.

We also have an in-depth and thorough exchange about the future of dance, including what types of changes are happening to traditional dance culture when it comes to the emergence of advocacy for gender/sexuality, neutrality, diversity and inclusion.

This discussion truly had so many topics and insights that words can't fully summarize. You'll have to watch/listen to the full episode to learn more!

And Mark's life has been one of things learned outside of a traditional classroom. He's been a competitive ballroom dancer. He has over 400 cufflinks. He's helped catch terrorists. Oh, and he's taught at MIT. There's a lot you can learn from listening to Mark, either in this interview or in his book.

How do we adopt a beginners mindset and why it is so crucial for our growth: Justas Kučinskas

How do we adopt a beginners mindset and why it is so crucial for our growth: Justas Kučinskas

Lithuanian dancer, movement teacher and philosopher Justas Kučinskas shares his knowledge about human development and how dance has encouraged him to always think out of the box and bring his consciousness to the next level.  We discussed about competition in arts and how one can only be better than somebody else in things that are measurable. We also talked about the relationship between growth and discomfort, and what technology does to our thinking.

Together with his wife, dancer Jekaterina, Justas co-founded a Movement School in Vilnius where he gathers people for a new movement experience and exploration of human soul through dance. Justas and Jekaterina  are parents to three beautiful children who remind them about the worth of beginners mindset everyday.
