    Fear Strikes Out

    Fear Strikes Out

Sean and Brad review the 1957 classic Fear Strikes Out.  They discuss the awkwardness of a 55 year old Karl Malden carrying a 24 year old Anthony Perkins, an skin condition pharmaceutical ad that played over and over while watching the movie, and the various jobs Sean had as a college student.  We also applaud the way the movie and the actual, real-life team of the 50's Boston Red Sox handled the subject of mental disorders.  And then we lament the next episode...

    Fever Pitch (2005)

    Fever Pitch (2005)

Join us as we cuddle up with Drew Barrymore and Jimmy Fallon to watch Fever Pitch.  Brad realizes he's not too far off from Fallon's super fan status and Sean concocts a crazy way for two nobodies to legally celebrate with the SAWX on the field after they win their first title in 150 years.  Also, Sean realizes he would pick his marriage over the Vols if he was pressed to.

Our next episode is Ready to Rumble and will feature our good friend, Keith Dismuke.

Ready to Rumble can be watched free on YouTube right now!  Or borrow it from your local library.

    The Babe

    The Babe

In 1992, the anticipation of seeing a biopic based on the life of Babe Ruth was an exciting time.  Then the movie came out and we were left with The Babe.  We talk about the many inaccuracies of this movie including, an entire stadium throwing lemons at Babe Ruth, a pop fly that landed on the infield after Babe Ruth rounded third base,  resulting in a home run, and the King Kong/Chris Farley-esque rampage into the stands.  That and eating steaks and of course, farts.  Bob Horner gets made fun of again.  Poor Bob Horner.

(The) Bad News Bears (1976 vs 2005)

(The) Bad News Bears (1976 vs 2005)

The Plotaholics Summer Showdown continues as we look at two films released 30 years apart from one another. These two films are essentially the same, but one is still way better than the other.

We’re talking, of course, about 1976's The Bad News Bears, starring Walter Matthau, Tatum O’Neal, and Jackie Earle Haley and the 2005 remake starring Billy Bob Thornton, Greg Kinear, and Troy Gentile (Barry Goldberg).

This week we pick apart the themes of both films and make those comparisons of a timeless classic vs. its remake.

We also bring up G-Baby (RIP), meat and ‘taters, and a whole variety of other topics! It’s another amazing episode!

    THE BENCHWARMERS (ft. Josh Waddle)

    THE BENCHWARMERS (ft. Josh Waddle)

EPISODE 33 – THE BENCHWARMERS (ft. Josh Waddle)

We’re finally out of Musical May, and we’ve brought Josh Waddle (Hashtag Comedy) along for the ride to talk the gross wannabe-inspirational sports comedy(?) The Benchwarmers! This week, Ashley gets therapy; Brian casts Jon Lovitz as Jeff Bezos; Josh has a new mantra; Brandon misses signals; and Chris is pedantic about poop.

BTW: A startling revelation about The Emperor’s New Groove!

Starring: Rob Schneider, David Spade, Jon Heder, Jon Lovitz, Craig Kilborn, Molly Sims, Tim Meadows, and Nick Swardson

    Directed by Dennis Dugan

    Major League

    Major League

The Plotaholics Sports Block continues this week as Bryan and Shane get into the official Plotaholics Time Machine to go back to the magical world of 1989 to visit Major League, starring The Substitute, Tiger Blood, Blade, Thor's Mom, and Michael J. Fox's aunt.

In this film the unlikable owner of the Cleveland Baseball Team hatches a nefarious plot to put together the worst team to take the diamond since the Bad News Bears as a ploy to make them bad enough to finish dead last all so she can move the team to Miami. Yeah, kids--there didn't used to be a baseball team in Miami back in 1989.

Unfortunately, the team decides they're going to win despite her. There's casual stalking, harassment, and all kinds of shenanigans in this sports comedy classic for you to enjoy! So sit back, relax, and listen to the guys go JUUUUUUUUUST a bit outside with this one!

    Moneyball

    Moneyball

Moneyball is a great sports movie that is more math than sports.  But it's more sports than The Last Boy Scout (we'll get to that later).  Sean wonders about the color of 1980s cleats and Brad says the word "adult" weird.  And poor Bob Horner gets bullied for the second episode in a row.  And he wasn't even in Moneyball!  Plus discussions about Jonah Hill's neckties and Chief Wahoo.  Join us as we review the 2011 classic, Moneyball.

    61*

Brad likens himself to one of cinema's worst serial killers and Sean recounts a heart-warming story of visiting Yankee Stadium.  Sheryl Crow gets a mention.  Oh, and the movie is about Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris trying to break Babe Ruth's single season home run record in 1961.  So why is Lyle Lovett there?  We don't know either.

    Angels in the Outfield

    Angels in the Outfield
This week, Jerrett catches Sam up on the culture that is the 1994 film Angels in the Outfield, to see where it falls in her baseball movie rankings. Follow the show on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/catchupculture/) and Twitter (https://twitter.com/catchupculture). Each week, Jerrett and Sam introduce each other to culture they missed out on. They had wildly different upbringings and often have opposite entertainment preferences. Sam was raised on SNL, Half Baked, and Beavis & Butthead, while Jerrett's more conservative household meant the usual Disney fare, westerns, and his favorite thing in the whole world, Star Wars. They've spent their 10 years together rewatching movies and binging TV shows, taking each other on a constant nostalgic ride to relive classic culture.

Eryk's Movie Club Ep. 2 The Natural

Eryk's Movie Club Ep. 2 The Natural

Instead of wasting time scrolling through your favourite streaming service deciding what to watch, let me help you out. This week my recommendation is a baseball movie classic, The Natural. Baseball is back! In this episode I'll tell you why I think you should check out this classic and I'll discuss where I think it ranks among the best baseball movies of all time. Also, an on-screen pair is reuniting after 27 years and the Fletch re-boot has cast it's lead. Details in this week's movie news.
