    It’s been more than a decade since we first saw Harry Soo on the groundbreaking television show BBQ Pitmasters. People still come up to Harry to talk about his experiences, especially after re-runs of the show air on the cable channel Destination American most weekends. On Episode 249 of the Tailgate Guys BBQ Podcast, Harry recounts the beginning of his BBQ journey, the unscripted beginnings of BBQ Pitmasters and where’s it’s all led - to a full-time open-fire career as one of the world’s most-popular pitmasters. Harry and Slap Yo Daddy BBQ has a busy 2024 ahead with a new grill he helped design, classes, products and an always-expanding library of how-to videos on his Youtube channel. It’s always a blast to chat with Harry and this is no exception.

    Building BBQ Joints By Hand | Junior Urias | Up In Smoke BBQ

    Junior Urias is a man of action, who isn’t afraid of a little hard work. Or a lot of hard work for that matter. Odds are, you’ve seen Junior before - he was a competitor on the popular TV show ‘BBQ Pitmasters’. But there’s so much more to Junior than a season of reality television. He started in the BBQ industry at a very young age and has explored almost all facets of the industry since then. He’s run successful food trucks and BBQ catering businesses, growing them into a full scale BBQ restaurant in Midland, Texas. He’s now working on building a new restaurant in Early, Texas, and so many more different projects. It’s sometimes difficult to keep up with all the irons he has in the fire. And when I say he’s building a new restaurant, I mean it. Like, with his own two hands. Literally building the restaurant. The new restaurant is much anticipated with his previous restaurant, Up In Smoke BBQ in Midland Texas, having quickly earned the reputation of having some of the best BBQ in Texas. The menu includes mouth watering smoked brisket, BBQ ribs, BBQ chicken, and of course, smoked sausage.

    Harry Soo is our very special guest in this week’s episode of the Smoking Hot Confessions BBQ Podcast. Harry really needs no introduction, being one of America’s most well-known Pitmasters, having been on BBQ Pitmasters, Chopped, Food Network and many more. In fact, you might remember him as the underdog in Season One of BBQ Pitmasters, who surprised everyone, beating many of the top Pitmasters and favourites to win. And his future has only gotten bigger and brighter since then. He’s since competed very successfully, winning 27 Grand Champions, more than 100 first places, taught over 200 classes, and instructed over 3,000 pitmasters in the USA and around the world.

    In this Episode, Harry takes us poolside at his house in Los Angeles where we combine a live cooking demonstration with a podcast interview, resulting in a really unique experience for viewers and listeners alike. As we talk about Harry’s experiences and views on the BBQ scene, Harry also takes us through some seafood recipe experiments on his trusty Weber Kettle, explaining all the different flavour profiles that he’s combining.
