S7E337 - Beastie Boys 'Paul's Boutique' with Kevin Moyer

    Beastie Boys with Sean O'Neal

    Beastie Boys with Sean O'Neal

So what-cha want? An episode on the prolific decades-spanning run of Ad Rock, Mike D, and MCA? No problem. It's BEASTIE BOYS week!

Joining the show to break down the iconic rhymes, beats, and general coolness of the B-Boys is Texas Monthly writer and former AV Club Editor in Chief Sean O'Neal! The guys discuss the group's teenage punk roots and watch it in action on a 1984 public access clip. A ridiculous 1987 clip from the Late Show with Joan Rivers featuring a pole dancer captures their License to Ill era a little too well. The Boys kill it on back-to-back Letterman clips, including a Sabotage peformance for the ages. And Jon kills the vibe by digging too deep into the personal life of Don Cornelius.

Want to watch along with us? Check out the links below for the performances discussed this week!

White Shadow/Untitled/Egg Raid on Mojo, 1/28/84 on The Scott and Gary Show!

(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!)/Time to get Ill, 1/15/87 on The Late Show with Joan Rivers

    Shadrach, 1/27/90 on Soul Train

Live at PJ's, 11/5/92 on Late Night with David Letterman

Sabotage, 8/4/94 on The Late Show with David Letterman

Three MCs and One DJ/Intergalactic, 9/10/98 on The MTV Video Music Awards

Ch-Check it Out, 6/14/04 on The Late Show with David Letterman

Folge 72 "Licensed to Ill" – Beastie Boys / "Straight" – Tobias Regner / "Still Love" – Teenage Wrist

    The Beastie Boys

    The Beastie Boys

Welcome to our podcast where we discuss and deliberate over memoirs and biographies found in thrift shops. This is a great way to do things as we are not choosing who to read about. We may not be fans of the person, we may never have heard of the person and we never know who we are going to find next...

There are only 2 rules to this podcast. The book has to be found in a thrift shop and we are not allowed to talk about the book until we press record, which is sometimes agonising.

We have lots of episodes coming up so if you find yourself enjoying our podcast, please be sure to subscribe to be among the first to hear about each episode.

    THANK YOU FOR LISTENING

Episode 581 - Top Ten "Sleep" Songs Part 1 w/Maureen Davis

"Sleep" "Sleeps" "Slept" "Sleepy" "Sleepless" and "Sleeping" are words that somehow find their way into the titles of some of our favorite songs. To celebrate this fact, and to help our good friend Maureen Davis do some mighty plugging, we here at ATTT HQ feel it's our civic duty to count down the 10 best  songs with "Sleep" in the title. As far as the plugging goes, we're incredibly grateful to have snared the illustrious Maureen Davis to the pod so we can play some great music while helping promote her awesome kids album and soon to be children's book Sleepyland Band Songs For Bedtime by her studio creation, the Sleepyland Band. Don't sleep on this amazing playlist, with picks 10-6 revealed in Part 1.

Maureen is doing LA right, meaning she's got her artistic hand in a million things at once. Try to keep up with her on her social media:

Episode 83: Are Friends Eclectic ? The Sounds of Science 3 : The Beastie Boys Edition : Mixed by AllyAl

The art of sampling ( and yes it is an art ) has introduced me to many songs and artists over the years. This is a selection of some of my favourites the Beastie Boys have used. No tracklist though, DJ Premier warned me of the dangers of straight up violating. Enjoy, because you can’t, you won’t and you don’t stop….

S6E305 - Public Enemy 'It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back' with Paul Mahern

This week's guest, audio engineer, producer, teacher (and lead singer of Indianapolis punk band Zero Boys) Paul Mahern, brings us Public Enemy's landmark sophomore record 'It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back'. Hugely influential and sonically explosive, Chuck D, Flavor Flav and the production team known as The Bomb Squad combined rap, soul, rock, funk, punk, musique concrète and everything in-between to forge the sound of a unit keenly aware of its purpose and capabilities.
    Bring the noise, indeed!

Songs discussed in this episode: Countdown To Armageddon - Public Enemy; Civilization's Dying - Zero Boys; Anarchy In The U.K. - Sex Pistols; Protect Ya Neck - Wu-Tang Clan; B-Boy Bouillabaise - Beastie Boys; The Sprawl - Sonic Youth; Cuttin' Heads - John Mellencamp; Bring The Noise - Public Enemy; Funky Drummer - James Brown; Don't Believe The Hype, Cold Lampin' With Flavor Flav, Terminator X To The Edge Of Panic - Public Enemy; The Grunt - The J.B.'s; Alone Again - Biz Markie; Mind Terrorist, Louder Than A Bomb - Public Enemy; The Robots - Kraftwerk; Caught, Can We Get A Witness, Show 'Em Whatcha Got, She Watch Channel Zero - Public Enemy; Angel Of Death - Slayer; Night Of The Living Baseheads, Black Steel In The Hour Of Chaos - Public Enemy; Hyperbolicsyllabicsesquedalymistic - Isaac Hayes; Security Of The First World, Rebel Without A Pause - Public Enemy; Walk This Way - Run DMC (ft.

Songs That Changed Music: The Beastie Boy’s “Fight For Your Right”

Songs That Changed Music: The Beastie Boy’s “Fight For Your Right”

The Beastie Boys began their career in the world of post-punk, hardcore music in 1981. Prior to License to Ill, the Beastie Boys had spent the better part of a decade  exploring the cutting edge of  hip-hop, rap, punk, and the lyrical intersection often found in those respective genres. The band approached all their musical influences with an almost-outsider, satirical point of reference – never taking themselves or their music too seriously.

    Ep.52: Anatomical Rhymes ("W.E.B.A.C.K.")

    Ep.52: Anatomical Rhymes ("W.E.B.A.C.K.")

Hooo boy, we've got a certified doozy of an episode for you today. As we resume exploring our second "proper" album, we dig into the title track - "W.E.B.A.C.K." - which features all sorts of references to female anatomy, U.K. collegiate football teams and a surprising drum sample.

Listen in astonishment as we dissect the track, with diversions involving the Beastie Boys and the now-defunct trippy rap project, Pony Bwoy (which is dope, BTW).

Rarified Heir Podcast #108: Eric Bonerz (Peter Bonerz)

Rarified Heir Podcast #108: Eric Bonerz (Peter Bonerz)

Today on the Rarified Heir Podcast we are talking to Eric Bonerz whose father Peter Bonerz you all know from his acting and directing career. Likely, most of you know Peter Bonerz as the role of Jerry the Dentist on The Bob Newhart Show. But did you know that Peter directed some of the biggest (and some of the most bizarre) television shows of all-time? From Wingsto Murphy Brown to Home Improvement to Friends and News Radio, Peter Bonerz has more than 350 directing credits to his name. We also learn about some of his pilots & short lived shows like Apple Pie which did not make it. One, about humans playing dogs with Chuck McCann and Charles Martin Smith, might be the weirdest of them all.

We talk to Eric about being on set like Catch-22 and Medium Cool and how his dad made it a point to be home for dinner and to be a parent who was present. Always. We also discuss Eric’s own career, working at the Beastie Boys (wink, wink) store X-Large, his offbeat Bay Area band Eskimo and how he was the PD on the internet radio channel LuxuriaMusic.com which is yours truly favorite radio station.

If The Day The Clown Cried, Yul Brenner, the band Primus, tagging along with Adam Arkin or seeing Keir Dullea eating sushi alone in the 80s mean anything at all to you, you must listen to this episode. The Rarified Heir Podcast’s latest episode begins, now.

Episode 54: KVLT Klopper 5 | Fear Factory vs. Beastie Boys
