E55: Who Let Boo Radley Out

E55: Who Let Boo Radley Out

Lucky you! You've found your way to the third episode of the rest of our lives together, Friends! Come along with Luke and Quinn as they introduce the new format for Hear Me Out Friends - each episode will act as a book club in which Luke or Quinn selects the book...and their tastes are not quite the same.

Quinn chose our book this week: Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. It's YA. It's got romance. It's got magic. It's got teen angst. And oh boy, does it have some interesting takes on small town life in South Carolina.

If you'd like to read along for the next episode (still an every two week format) Luke's selection is Dune by Frank Herbert! Check it out from your local library or get it however you get your books, and send us your thoughts to go over for the ep.

    Ep 09 - Beautiful Creatures

    Ep 09 - Beautiful Creatures

"Beautiful Creatures is a 2013 American romantic gothic fantasy film based upon the 2009 novel of the same name by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl". - wiki

We would not call it romantic per say, rather a hormone driven novel. For once though the film was better than the book. Don't agree? Have a listen and see if we can convince you. We discuss everything from sex to the hard and soft rules of magic in this episode. It turned out to be more of a commentary on social norms that we intended but hey that is art for you. It was fun to make this episode and while I will never read the book again, the film is something I'll be happy to have on in the background. We all wish we could do magic right?

I swear a bit more than usual in this episode but what can I say? I am passionate about teenage literature. We are about half way through our Fantasy Season 1 so thank you for listening, we appreciate the love. Next week we will be releasing an episode on Philip Pullman's Northern Lights where we also have a special guest on the podcast so keep an eye out for that.

    Until next time my bibliophiles.

Ep. 6- Michael Cera; 'A Good Day to Die Hard'

Ep. 6- Michael Cera; 'A Good Day to Die Hard'
"Welcome to the party, pal"!  You were expecting "Yippe Ky-Yay"? On this week's show we'll be joined by John Nolan of the Punch Drunk Critics to talk A Good Day to Die Hard, the fifth film in the hit action series. Does it at least pack a greater punch than the disappointing Live Free or Die Hard? Plus we'll review Beautiful Creatures and Nicholas Sparks' Safe Haven.
We'll also spend a few minutes with Michael Cera, Gaby Hoffman, and director Sebastian Silva to talk about their hit Sundance film, the road trip comedy Crystal Fairy!
