Short On Time? 3 Ways to Grow Your Online Business

Short On Time? 3 Ways to Grow Your Online Business

A couple weeks ago I was in a training and brought in Annie Fuller who talked about the ‘nap time hustle’.  Limited hours and building a cash creating business.👈

It was so good, I decided to turn it into a podcast so you could hear it!

We talked about how she did this during pregnancy

How she made sales with a newborn and TWO toddlers

…and how she found her dream product to sell.

My friend, you are about to get some awesome, amazing, fantastic (you get my drift) knowledge to share with you today.

First, she doesn’t let something that some people use as a reason NOT to start an online store stop her. In fact, this successful seller has transformed an excuse into a very powerful “why.”

Next, when she saw sales of her first product start to fall, she saw it as an opportunity to do something she’d dreamt of for approximately…forever. And she is ROCKING it.

Oh—and if that’s not enough, she’s been running her business in just a couple of hours a day, during what she calls the “nap time hustle.”

My gracious, there is so much more to share, but how ‘bout you listen as Annie shares her story, her journey, her adventures…and so much more.

The #1 Way to Avoid Being the Face of Your Online Brand

The #1 Way to Avoid Being the Face of Your Online Brand

Well hello there, and welcome to this episode of my podcast—where I’m teaching you #1 way to avoid being the face of your online brand.

I’ve had so dang many people outside of that group tell me that they’d LOVE to have a successful ecommerce store but the idea of being the face of their brand stops them from ever getting started. So I surveyed the students in my 0-100K System not too long ago, and I learned that the majority of them also absolutely do not want to be the face of their brand.

Truly, I get it. When I started my first online store, I didn’t want anybody to know who I was, either.

That’s why I’m introducing a special guest today as part of my podcast episode. It’s fair to say that she was key to me hitting the million-dollar mark (and multi-million-dollar mark) with my first online store.

Her name is Nikki and she’s the kind of neighbor everyone wants to have. Her husband’s an attorney, she has three kids and she drives a minivan. And she loves finding cool, affordable products for herself and her family.

And there’s one other thing you should know: she’s not real.

Nikki is the avatar, or the buyer persona, I created for my online shop. It was thanks to her—and a method I followed almost religiously--that I didn’t have to be the face of my ecommerce business.

Curious about that method?  Well, there are 6 steps, and I go over every single one of them in this podcast episode. And to make it easy to remember, I came up with the acronym “HEROES.”

What You Need to Know About Running Facebook Ads

What You Need to Know About Running Facebook Ads

I’m excited to welcome back Bryan Bowman to my podcast today. I was fortunate enough to interview him about a year ago right here on the Because I Can Life—and couldn’t wait to bring him back!

    Last time, he talked Shopify.

Today, we’re discussing the ins and outs of Facebook ads, which is a huge topic right now in the ecommerce world.

I’m hearing way too many people say they’re spending thousands—even tens of thousands—on Facebook ads and they’re just not seeing the returns they hope for.

Bryan works with e-commerce entrepreneurs EVERY DAY to help them tackle this stuff, and he’s here to let us know what we need to think about when it comes to running ads on Facebook.

Oh—and you’ll learn why, as he puts it, friends don’t let friends boost posts!

Why Every Ecommerce Business Owner Needs a Momentum Coach

Why Every Ecommerce Business Owner Needs a Momentum Coach

People are always asking me the secrets to my ecommerce success, and in today’s podcast, I share one of them: having a Momentum Coach.

    Not quite what you expected?

Well, I believe that the investments we make in ourselves are the very best we can make. I also believe that having someone I can talk with and get “unstuck” with is invaluable. That’s why I have a Momentum Coach.

Ashley Pedersen works with online store owners in my Next Level class, helping them to move past blockers their brains may be tossing up.

As you’ll hear, she gives them opportunities to ask questions and helps students understand that they can—and should—take up space. And they learn that the only people they should get out of the way for…are themselves

Get ready to listen, to learn, and maybe even have your mind opened to new possibilities a bit.

The Exact Formula on How to Find Products

The Exact Formula on How to Find Products

Growing an ecommerce store is a glorious challenge, but after doing it multiple times myself, I’ve found some tried and true methods that work. Those methods include how to use my LADDERS Law to grow your online business.

Lemme guess: you’re wondering what the hot heck a ladder has to do with ecommerce. After all, I’ve never sold a ladder in my life. Unless maybe it was some sort of cute little décor piece that sits on your counter.

But I want you to think about a ladder for just a sec. Say we wanted to get on our roof to put on some Christmas lights or something similar.

We don’t leap from the ground onto a roof two stories above, right? It’s a pretty impossible thing to do for most of us—especially holding a bunch of tangled holiday lights.

And we shouldn’t jump from a roof to the ground two stores below, either. Odds are, we’d get hurt.

That’s why we use ladders. They’re designed to help us carefully move up—and down, if needed—as we work towards a goal. In the case of ecommerce, my LADDERS Law is designed to help you do the same thing.

I have used this process to build my ecommerce businesses multiple times, and I’m not alone. My daughters used it to launch their successful ecommerce business. So have moms and grandmas and other students in my 0-100K System. They’ve followed these exact steps so they could create their own successful online stores.

Recently, I even taught my friend and ClickFunnels founder Russell Brunson my ecommerce LADDERS Law. The result? He sold over $15,000 in burlap bags in two weeks!

    Ready to learn more?

The Secret to Online Store Success

The Secret to Online Store Success

If you’ve ever wondered what the secret to success is when it comes to starting and operating an online store, this episode is for you.

Today I’m joined on the Because I Can podcast by Kim Henrie, whose ecommerce journey is one that anyone can learn from—no matter what they plan to sell in their online store.

Kim had a big, BEAUTIFUL goal and vision for what she wanted to offer her customers. But as you’ll find out, she started small and grew her business one step at a time to allow herself to learn the ins and outs of launching an online store.

I have to tell you that while I might sound pretty chill in this description, when I was talking with Kim I was so dang excited!

The information she shares is EXACTLY what people who are new ecommerce need to hear!!!!

And you know what else I loved? Any time Kim runs into a challenge or has someone tell her “no” she doesn’t let it stop her.

She finds Plan B, C, or D and keeps right on going.

(Um…and the fact that she designs every single piece of clothing—including the fabric itself—is just so dang cool.)

Use Charisma Hacking to Build Your Online Store

Use Charisma Hacking to Build Your Online Store

What is charisma? Is it something only a few people have? Just the wildly famous types you see walking the red carpets or speaking on stage?

Well, according to McCall Jones, who joins me on my podcast today, everybody (psst! Including you!) has charisma that’s all their own. And she also says that it is possible to find a style that works for you. In other words yes, you CAN hack charisma.

Sooooo….wait.  How does McCall know all of this?

    Glad you asked!

McCall has been performing since she was just 8 years old. She has sung in front of tens of thousands of people, and her work in film means that TENS OF MILLIONS have seen her on screen.

But in addition to being a performer, McCall is an observer. She would watch others who were on stage, seeing how some would absolutely engage their audiences while others…fell flat. (ouch)

Today she is the founder of Charisma Hacking, using what she learned during her years of performing to help business owners identify and use their own styles to achieve some insane business goals.

And yes, what she does can help even the most INTROVERTED online store owner to utilize the elements of their own charisma to attract and engage buyers.

McCall is a high-energy expert who loves what she does and has the science to back it up. Get ready for a fast-paced conversation FULL of powerful ideas.

Um…and within 22 months of launching her company, she crossed over the ONE MILLION DOLLAR MARK.

    Cha ching!!!!!

    Selling tee shirts!!!!!!!

With no big social media presence,..with no Facebook ads (you’ve got to hear about her experience with those!)… and all the while providing other women fantastic $$$ earning opportunities.

How to Tell Your Story Better

How to Tell Your Story Better

I absolutely love launching and running successful online stores.

It’s kind of my comfort zone.

Ditto with helping people create their own online stores.

What I absolutely do NOT love, however, is public speaking. I know I’m not alone in this fear.

The idea of standing up there in front of people who are looking at you and waiting for you to share a message they need to hear.  It makes me get lightheaded just thinking about it.

But I’ve been asked to speak at events and conferences about what I do and how others can do the same thing. The first time…was horrible. The second time wasn’t quite as bad. And the third time…I did okay.

When it comes to sharing our stories—whether it’s on a stage or on our websites or doing a Facebook Live—can be difficult for anyone. But if we want to serve people with our products or information, we need to try.

Today, Colin Boyd is joining me on the Because I Can podcast. Colin works with some of the biggest names out there—speakers who inspire thousands, if not millions, every year. He helps them tell their stories so they can serve their audiences in a bigger, better way.

If you own your own ecommerce business—or any business for that matter—Colin’s wisdom will help you move it forward.

5 Things to Include in a Return Policy for Your Online Store

5 Things to Include in a Return Policy for Your Online Store

Returns are part of running a product-based online business. It’s just a fact. And if you’re just starting your store, the thought can be pretty scary.

But product returns don’t have to be. Not if you’re prepared for them.

In this episode of the Because I Can Life podcast, I share 5 things to include in a return policy for your online store (plus an extra one that I’ve found is awesome.)

Each item is very practical—and every single one is designed to protect your business while making sure your customers feel valued.

Plus, in this episode I share exactly what led to me creating a return policy for my very first company.

I’ll tell you that more than a decade after this incident happened, I am still incredibly GRATEFUL to the customer who reached out to me to tell—and show—me where my company had let her down. It completely changed how I looked at return policies and customer service.

And it all begins with some simple pieces of metal.

Start an Online Store With Handmade Products

Start an Online Store With Handmade Products

I love, love, LOVE getting to hear other entrepreneurs’ stories. Seriously, it’s so gratifying to get to learn about and share their journeys here on my podcast.

    This one is no different.

I had the chance to talk with Kacey Beal, owner of Holly & Liz, about how she started her online store, how she decided what to sell, and how far she’s come since day one.

You’re going to get so dang much out of this one if you’re thinking about…

…creating or growing an online store selling handmade items.

…building an ecommerce company that caters to wholesale clients.

    …starting or expanding a product-based online store.

Basically, if you’re doing anything related to ecommerce, this episode has something awesome for you.

From Birthday Money to a Millionaire by 15!

So….one of the things that I preach from the rooftops is that you don’t have to have a big “Shark Tank” idea to have a successful business. No prototypes, no proof of concept, none of that.

But today on my podcast, I’m totally talking about someone who DID go on Shark Tank and who absolutely blew my mind.

His name is Trey Brown, and he is the founder of the very cool fashion brand SPERGO. And his story had me absolutely jumping up and down for joy.

Why? Because he started with what he had—a whopping $178 in birthday money—and built a premium, very profitable brand.

You are soooooo going to love, love, LOVE this one.

And…if you’ve been thinking or about starting an online store, I have big news.

Right now, I’m doing my FREE 5-Day Sprint to help you find your perfect product to sell. I go live every day with you for 5 days to provide ideas, answer questions, and share how you can get your online store started now.

As of the date I post this, it is Day 2 of the sprint, and you most definitely have time to jump in. But you do need to hustle.

So after taking a listen to this episode of the podcast and celebrating some serious teenpreneur success, head to FindYourPerfectProduct.com to sign up and gain entrance to our private Facebook Group. The Best Daily Planner for Ecommerce Entrepreneurs

The Best Daily Planner for Ecommerce Entrepreneurs

Okay, back in the day (which basically means pre-smart phone) pretty much everybody had a planner.

People like Stephen J. Covey made daily planners pretty much a necessity for anyone who wanted to stay organized and be successful. Until…keeping calendars and notes on your phone became “the thing.”

But you wanna know a secret? There are still a lot of us who prefer paper daily and monthly planners…and a bunch more who are starting to.

I think part of it is just the process of writing things down. It’s powerful. And can we just be honest and say that a break from electronics is good for our brain?

I created the Because I Can daily planner specifically for ecommerce entrepreneurs like me. It incorporates goal planning, monthly and daily planning, life balance stuff, dreaming—everything that we do as business builders.

It’s probably not a secret that I wondered how it would work for other people, too. Fortunately, it’s been a big success for so many others—including Alix Trabucco, who is joining me on the Because I Can Life podcast.

She’s talking about her entrepreneurial journey, how she uses her daily planner in a variety of ways, how her teenage son uses the planner…and what’s next for them both.

    Key Takeaways

    Intro (00:00)

Get yourself a free planner! (01:15)

    Meet Alix (06:20)

    Quick story time (10:53)

    The big switch (15:12)

Why using the planner works! (17:45)

What are YOUR power hours? (20:43)

How Alix uses her planner (23:34)

Life as an Entrepreneur in 2021: Be Kind, Rewind

Life as an Entrepreneur in 2021: Be Kind, Rewind

Join me as I take a look in the rearview mirror at 2021 and all that it brought in this segment of my Podcast I’m calling “Be Kind, Rewind.”

Now I’m going to be COMPLETELY honest when I tell you that I can’t even believe it’s time for one of these.

I kinda keep thinking that Easter was last week.  (Spoiler alert! It wasn’t!)

So #nosuprise, I really can’t believe that Blockbuster has pretty much been gone for about a decade. Because what the heck? (Not talking to you, Bend, Oregon! Stay strong, my friends!)

The thing is, I’m kind of in love with the whole idea of the Blockbuster mantra “Be Kind, Rewind.”  Long story short, I think we all need to be a little bit nicer to ourselves and others when we look back.

As I recently heard, the only judge around here is Judy and she’s not in court right now, so let’s not be so judgy mcjudgerton about ourselves. Can I get an “amen” on that?

So click the download button, take a listen, and find out what 2021 taught me. I’d love to know what your big lessons are, too—so be sure to leave ‘em in the comments.

3 Things to Consider When Selling on Marketplaces vs. Shopify

3 Things to Consider When Selling on Marketplaces vs. Shopify

So what happens when the doors to your online business close—without you having any ideas as to why?

On my podcast today, you’ll meet an entrepreneur who experienced it and what she did about it.

Taylor Glaus started her business on Etsy—one of the biggest ecommerce marketplaces out there. Within two years, she’d become so successful that she had 40 employees.

But right before Christmas in 2019, her Etsy stores were suddenly closed…and would never reopen.

But here’s the thing—Taylor is a fighter. And with encouragement from her mom and husband, she dug her heels in and relaunched her business using her own website.

And when it came down to Etsy vs. Shopify, Shopify won BIG (as in $1 Million in 11 months big!)

    Listen now for the details.

    Key Takeaways:

    Intro (00:00)

How Taylor Glaus got started in ecommerce with Etsy: (1:15)

3 Steps You Can Take to Deal With Negative Reviews

3 Steps You Can Take to Deal With Negative Reviews

Every now and again I can’t help but humming the “Why You Gotta Be So Mean” song from T Swift…especially when I scroll through the negative reviews I’ve received.

But negative online reviews are kind of part of the whole ecommerce gig.

Sometimes the reviews are honestly written and have the best intent behind them.

    Others…?

    Yeah, not so much.

In today’s Because I Can Life episode, I’m digging into all sorts of things about online reviews, like:

    • 3 steps you can take to deal with negative reviews;
    • My desire to normalize negative reviews;
    • Why online store owners need to avoid internalizing negative reviews;
    • What you should consider when you leave a review…

…and why some people should never be allowed into National Parks. (Surprising tangent, I know.)

So kick back and give it a listen—and give it a review (hopefully not a negative one!) if you like what you hear.

    Key Takeaways

    Intro (00:00)

    National parks slander? (01:20)

    Negative reviews are normal! (03:04)

    Sharing more negative reviews (04:50)

    Just delete those comments (07:07)

    Address the comments appropriately (07:47)

    Take the high road (09:02)

Don't take these reviews personally (09:47)

Put a barrier between you and the comments (11:04)

    A few examples (13:01)

    More reviews for you (15:10)

How to Start an Online Boutique (and Why It’s Okay to Be Bad at Something New)

How to Start an Online Boutique (and Why It’s Okay to Be Bad at Something New)

When we were kids, it usually didn’t phase us to try new things—I mean, childhood is a time when we’re always learning, right?  And for the most part, if we don’t get it right, we just dust ourselves off and try again.

As adults, however, we don’t tend to give ourselves the same kind of grace. We want to get things right the first time.

That’s why I loved my conversation with Darlene Turner, who was one of the first people who joined my 0-$100K Program.

In this episode of the podcast, Darlene shares her journey launching and growing her online boutique, CrushOnThis.net—and what she’s learned along the way (including why it’s okay to be bad at something new.)

    Key Takeaways

    Intro (00:00)

    How we met (00:49)

    Wanting her own business (02:45)

What school doesn’t teach you (03:47)

“I wanted someone that had done it” (04:48)

    Getting started (05:49)
