Ryan Leier: Fierce Grace & The People That Piss Us Off
As a world-renowned yoga teacher who leads classes alongside bands like Arcade Fire and singer songwriters like Xavier Rudd and Michael Franti; former professional basketball player; and Founder of One Yoga, Ryan Leier's life purpose is to love and be yoga. He believes yoga can bring people together in a way that little else can, except perhaps music. “Yoga is for everybody no matter what. It’s not really as much about the postures as people think it is. If you can breathe, you can experience the magic of yoga.”
In this episode, Allie explores Ryan’s human experience. They dive deep into:
- The ways he has used really confronting circumstances in his own life- the death of a daughter, humility from falling off the pedestal and the journey of being a committed student- to learn and become stronger
- Why the time is now to transform our relationship to confrontation and experience the freedom that lies on the other side of it
- The choice we have to turn everything into our teacher- people, experiences and circumstances- and how these lessons are what shapes our human experience
- The importance of having true teachers in our lives who call us out on our BS, challenge us and remind us who we are at our essence
- Why it’s essential to find something that will connect you to the present moment because the present moment is where everything is possible

Kate Grenville and Julie Janson's different takes on Australian history
Two novelists, one Indigenous and one non-Indigenous, talk about the same period of Australia's colonial history.
Julie Janson on her new novel Benevolence
Benevolence, by Julie Janson tells the story of an important time in the history of this country. However, perhaps for the time, it tells it from an Indigenous perspective.

The listener question we answer this week:
- John Banks asks, “I'm thankful for investing time in this podcast. I’ve been to a weekender at Capital Hill—and wondered if the beltway gang could actually implement healthy church principles in rural America where local church membership is often viewed as simply a right to cast your vote? I would be interested to hear how you have implemented membership in a meaningful way in your respective churches. What challenges are there, have been, and how did you overcome objections?”
