Welcome to the rant! I am your host DAVID KING

    INTRO…

    Segway to:

Continuing on the new you for 2022!

And I wanna get back to my NSNG diet.. (GIVE UPDATE)

Just so we are clear as an update to what this diet is, (GO INTO DETAIL, Explain ketosis)

One of the things that I had mentioned previously on the show was Avoiding vegetable seed oils.  And I am gonna say, if you do not do this NSNG diet, if anything please avoid seed oils at all costs.

You might be thinking that you don't cook with them so what's the big deal?  The big deal is it's in everything at the grocery store and it's literally killing you.

The food industry is replacing healthy oils like olive oil, beef fat, or butter and using things like palm seed oil in its place.

Look at everything you buy in the grocery store next time, generally it's the first or second item listed.

It can be avoided without cutting your favorite foods out of your diet.  For instance ditch the Jif peanut butter and go for the natural brands, some won't even use oils of any kind.  You can make your own nut butters too if you like, and I recommend it.  Just use unroasted nuts when you do.

All roasted nuts are roasted in you guessed it, Palm seed oil.

    Not so heart healthy anymore….

So why are these processed oils so bad for you?

    1. Vegetable Oils are highly inflammatory. Eating industrial seed oils raises our omega-6-to-omega-3 fatty acid ratios, with significant consequences for our health. They are high in Linoleic Acid—a polyunsaturated omega 6 fatty acid—which is highly inflammatory when consumed in excess.

    1. Industrial seed oils are unstable and oxidize easily, thus causing oxidation in our bodies.

Oxidation can damage vital molecules in our cells, including DNA and proteins, which are responsible for many body processes. Molecules such as DNA are needed for cells to function properly, so if too many are damaged, the cell can malfunction or die.

    3.  When industrial seed oils are repeatedly heated, even more toxic by-products are created and they become trans and hydrogenated fats, releasing oxidising free radicals into our system.

In Dr Catherine Shanahan’s book “Deep Nutrition she  explains how the heat processing of seed oils can impact your cells:

‘Processing distorts the fatty acids in vegetable oils so they can no longer assume the typical five or six sided geometry. Like Chinese finger traps, our enzymes pick up these distorted fatty acids and then can’t let them go., which hampers cellular function so profoundly it can kill your cells. And if you eat enough trans fats, cellular dysfunction will impair so many cells in so many tissues that the cumulative effects will disrupt basic functions (like blood circulation or your body’s ability to fight infection) and eventually kill you.’ – Deep Nutrition p.131

rans and hydrogenated fats are industrially and chemically processed seed oils—the most insidious of all as the chemical structure has been completely distorted to the point where they release free radicals into your system.

What is a Free radical? Something you do not want!

Free radicals are high energy-electrons that are involved in every known disease. They cause disease by restructuring nearly every molecule they come into contact with, converting biologically functioning molecules into dysfunctional or even toxic molecules

Vegetable oils were introduced in the 1960s, and since then we have seen a radical spike in chronic illness in the US.  Not to mention Heart disease is the number one killer in the US.

It is not hard to put two and two together.  Just look at the young adults in 60s and look at young adults today.  The men were skinny, with six pack like stomachs.  Today? Not so much, obesity plagues the united states.

    • From 1999 –2000 through 2017 –2018, US obesity prevalence increased from 30.5% to 42.4%. During the same time, the prevalence of severe obesity increased from 4.7% to 9.2%.

You could make the argument that Americans today eat out more, or eat more fast food.  And you’re right, that certainly is the culprit.  What is their food cooked in? Seed oils… Ya the the french fries arent good for you, but they’re made worse when you cook them in processed monosaturated oils.

In fact when Mcdonalds first opened they cooked their foods in Beef talo, otherwise known as beef fat.  Its a great option for cooking foods in.

These oils now account for 20% of Americans’ calories and have made their way into nearly every packaged food and restaurant meal we eat, from oat milk, tortilla chips, margarine, and mayonnaise to Subway’s breads, Domino’s pizza crust, and Chipotle’s rice

    And as mentioned earlier..

as vegetable oil consumption has grown, rates of obesity, cancer, and diabetes–among other chronic illnesses–have surged to unprecedented levels.  Six in ten adults in the US have a chronic disease and four in ten adults have two or more.

While saturated fat, sodium, red meat, carbohydrate, and sugar consumption have all decreased in the last couple of decades, along with rates of smoking and physical inactivity, our consumption of vegetable oil has skyrocketed.

So its easy to see… Vegetable oils are killing us.

Why is it allowed to be used so much with all that we know?

Well for one, the information on these oils is relatively new… Doctors for the longest time and some still do, told their patients to cut out the saturated fat (meat and dairy) and stick with seed oils.

And Secondly, and the most important reason.  ITS CHEAP.

Dirt cheap… and corporate america loves that!

I believe the push to use these industrial oils go beyond cost, I believe the USDA introduces the food pyramid to help subsidize the farming industry in the US.

What does the US have the ability to grow so much of? Corn, wheat and Soy… and heck its so easy and cheap to grow lets put it in everything. And lets create an entire food pyramid around it to boost the sales of this fine product.

Well.. Fast forward today and we are all fat, disease ridden, and miserable.

And now the meat industry is jumping on board.  Companies like Tyson chicken for instance are jumping on the “BEYOND MEAT” category.

I knew that the Beyond meat was probably too good to be true.  Either it didn't taste good or it simply isn't good for you.

Well I can report that I have no idea what it tastes like… but I can tell you for a fact that its horrible for you.

And whats the main ingredient of “Beyond Meat”?

    Processed oils…

Now I wont get heavy into this category, because  I could do a whole show on the fake meat market.  In fact Vinnie Tortorich just did a great documentary on it called “Beyond Impossible”  . I suggest you check it out.  It goes really deep into this industry and breaks it wide open.

So the Beyond meat market targets vegans, well… Targets them first but the companies that make this stuff are coming for you.  They have all but said so.  And theyre getting the UN and World health organization on board with them..

Why? Well they will  tell you it's to save the planet and to live healthier. But really it's because it's a multi billion dollar industry. It's so profitable that companies who sell meat are now getting in on this…

So what is in beyond meat? Whats a Faux burger have in it?

Well vegans this might surprise you but very little vegetables if at all..

    Here's what is in it.

Water, pea protein*, expeller-pressed canola oil, refined coconut oil, rice protein, natural flavors, dried yeast, cocoa butter, methylcellulose, and less than 1% of potato starch, salt, potassium chloride, beet juice color, apple extract, pomegranate concentrate, sunflower lecithin, vinegar, lemon juice concentrate, vitamins and minerals (zinc sulfate, niacinamide [vitamin B3], pyridoxine hydrochloride [vitamin B6], cyanocobalamin [vitamin B12], calcium pantothenate).

    Mmmmm sounds appetizing..

By the way they use beet juice color to simulate the red juice we often associate as blood in real meat….  That juice is myoglobin.

This is Beyond processed is what they should really call it.

And while many of the ingredients seem harmless, what is the third one on the list? Canola oil.

Among many others on there that are not all that good for you.

This is what they want you to eat over actual meat…. This is what they are telling you is better for you than the steak, or the hamburger you have been accustomed to all these thousands of years.

    I mean… really?

The psychos behind this product want you to actually believe that a processed lab experiment that is beyond meat is better than what God placed on this planet for us to eat and have eaten for thousands of years..

And it isnt just the beyond meat, almost every vegan meat alternative ingredient list is a periodic table of elements.

And ask yourself, why do you need something to stop the craving you have for red meat? I mean after all that's what this is for right?

Craving a burger? Well don't eat that red meat it is bad for you and kills innocent animals, don't get me started on climate change! Here, have a beyond burger, its so much healthier for you!

Ask yourself this… why are you craving the burger?

Is it because it tastes good? Certainly but what else?

Could it be that your body is craving the nutrients found in meat? protein, iron, B12, zinc, creatine and various others?

By the way B12? You can't get that anywhere else but in meat… and its an essential nutrient for brain health. Like so essential that if you don't get enough of that nutrient it could kill you.  You can get a supplement now but that has only been available since the 1950s.. And Drs are finding out that your body is having a harder time processing all of the supplement versions for some odd reason…

Interesting that a vitamin that is so important for our life can only be found in the very thing that these so-called experts are telling us not to eat…

Your body has a funny way of telling you what it wants..

For instance, a donut sounds pretty good because you have loaded you system up on sugar and now your body tells you “Hey get that coke, its tasty and I need more of that sweet stuff inside”

The same can be said for veggies and meat… the body craves the nutrients inside.  So feed it what it really needs! MEAT…

I'm not attacking Vegans.. Unless you're one of those militant ones that stands in a restaurant and yells at the people eating a steak… then yes I am attacking you. You need a hobby that doesn't involve the harassment of others…

You wanna be vegan? Be vegan… but I warn you about this beyond meat stuff, it will kill you.

I would love to deep dive into this category but If you are interested in it more and wanna learn about what these corporate giants, and political figures are doing to push this fake industrial byproduct on us and remove Meat all together from our diets… I suggest you watch “Beyond Impossible” or just google them… they really don't hide their agenda.

They literally say they would wipe cows off the planet… to save it from climate change. Yes they are using climate change to push the vegan diet and this product on us….

    But I digress…

Its really not complicated.. We have made it complicated because we want “easy”

It started with convenience, faster meals… Gave us fast food restaurants, tv dinners, and boxed hamburger helper meals.

“ Now you can have grandma's pot pie any day, with no prep! Just stick it in the oven.. Even better, the microwave!”

Convenient, wasnt always cheap though.  Bring on the processed foods…

Convenience leads to obesity, cancer, disease….

Now here we are… We want to get skinny, get healthy, but we do not want to lose the convenience of our previous diet.

    So we complicate things…

We substitute hungry mans for lean cuisines… We cut out the red meat and up the intake on carbs…

We count calories, follow flow charts, eat keto, paleo, vegan, vegetarian, atkins, south beach, nutrisystem, weight watchers and on and on on on on on on….

WE have complicated our dietary health for convenience and we are not healthier… most likely we are annoyed.

Mad at ourselves because after two months, two weeks, oh heck day two… we quite the diet we started.

    We beat ourselves up…

First thing you have to realize is that it isnt complicated.  Think about how we ate a hundred years ago… a thousand years ago.

    Do that…

“But david our diets allow us to live longer!”

    No!

Modern medicine helps you live longer…

Diet is what is getting in the way of it all…

NSNG isnt a fad diet. It simply takes you back to how our ancestors eat.  Some take it a step further and only eat meat.  That's a carnivore diet.  I have heard a lot of good things about this diet.  But that might be another show.

    No sugar, no grains.

Start there, and exercise, do yoga, go for walks, ride a bike, if you want, lift weights.

Do that until your back in shape (thats important) and youre at the weight you want to be at.

After that, you can relax a bit, have cheat days. Eat some pasta, eat a cookie! You earned it.

If you're not a recovering cancer patient (like vinnie) or pre diabetic, then you can have a little of this or that from time to time!

ITs ok… and that's the beauty of this.  Once you do NSNG to the max and go into ketosis your body will be able to handle the small cheat days no problem.  And frankly you probably don't want to cheat or crave to… because your body reset and does not desire those sugars and carbs anymore.

Listen at the end of the day I do not care what diet you go on, Vegan, paleo whatever… you do you.  But please avoid the processed oils.  That I beg of you! Even if you don't diet at all… Please think about cutting them out as soon as possible.

    Your body will thank you!

Better Brands’ Low-Carb Bagel + Cometeer’s New Frozen Coffee

Will a low-carb, high-protein bagel find success among its unhealthier counterparts? In this episode of the Xtalks Food Podcast, Sydney introduces the team to the Better Bagel, the first product from California-based startup Better Brands. Its founder, Aimee Yang, believes daily bagel eaters shouldn’t have to sacrifice taste and nutrition, so she created the Better Bagel, which is low in carbs and sugar and high in protein. The team discuss how the keto trend tends to replace bread products with entirely different food groups, but praises Better Brands for improving upon the traditionally high-carb breakfast bagel.

Also, in this episode, Mira talks the newest innovation in the coffee space from coffee-tech startup Cometeer. The company creates frozen coffee pods akin to pucks that are packaged in a fully recyclable capsule. When placed in a hot cup of water, it can be stirred in to create nearly any coffee beverage. Unlike many coffee brands, Cometeer’s frozen coffee pucks are sustainably made and packaged. The team discuss whether they would try the frozen coffee and where Cometeer will fit into the $35 million global specialty coffee market.

Nature’s Fynd Fungi-Based Meat + Beyond Meat Chicken Tenders

Will a fungi-based meat backed by Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos and Al Gore gain traction in the alt meat market? In this episode of the Xtalks Food Podcast, Sydney discusses Nature’s Fynd, a fungi-based meat copmany whose main source of protein is derived from a volcanic microbe from Yellowstone National Park. With heavy competition and a potentially hefty price, will its novelty be enough to attract consumers?

Also in this episode, Mira talks about Beyond Meat’s new Chicken Tenders being rolled out in restaurants nationwide. The launch comes after ten years or research and development, following an unseuccessful launch of a previous faux chicken product in 2012. The team discusses where plant-based chicken fits into the “chicken sandwich wars” and whether they would try Beyond Meat’s Chicken Tenders.

Impossible Foods quest to reduce the impact of agriculture - a chat with Rebekah Moses

The first time I came across Impossible Foods was when I read an article about them in Techcrunch back in 2016 and I was immediately sold on the idea - making protein for people cutting out the animal middle-man is such an excellent concept, and such a win for the planet in terms of land use, energy use, and water use!

So when I kicked off this podcast, I was keen to talk to someone from Impossible Foods to hear the story from their perspective. To that end, I reached out and invited Impossible Foods' Head of Impact Strategy Rebekah Moses to join me on the show, and she very graciously agreed.

We had a fascinating conversation, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I hope you enjoy it too.

In this episode, she shares how she believes that muscle is the organ of longevity (and may be the most underappreciated organ that we have), how best to lower cholesterol, the importance of amino acids, the amount of protein you should consume daily - and what that looks like on your plate.

AgTech Innovation & Investing with Adam Bergman and Andrew Rose

AgTech Innovation & Investing with Adam Bergman and Andrew Rose

One of the nice things about hosting a podcast is the opportunity to make new friends and reconnect with old ones. On today’s episode of Raising Your Antenna, I was able to do both. I've known Adam Bergman for 15 years as we go back to the halcyon days of the solar revolution and have stayed in touch as renewables have waxed and waned as well as reinvented itself in an effort to stay relevant, attract investment and most importantly continue its quest to mitigate climate change and effect systemic transformation of the way we use and consume natural resources. As the Managing Director of EcoTech Capital, Adam has transitioned into AgTech and FoodTech and he shares with us his thoughts on a host of related topics. My new friend is Andrew Rose who is the Executive Director of Innovation, Strategy and Business Development at MidAtlantic Farm Credit, an organization that finances loans for farms, homes, equipment and buildings, land, construction and improvement, as well as loans for production and operating. On today's episode of RYA, Andrew and Adam touch on topics as diverse as Faux Shrimp in Singapore, food waste and landfills, cyber Agtech, Burger King and ESG.

    Tune in as we discuss:

    • How AgTech fits into the sustainability and cleantech industry
    • The most exciting blue oceans, white spaces, and opportunities in the agricultural industry
    • The biggest bottlenecks in the AgTech industry
    • Why the food side of AgTech is consequential for sustainability
    • Comparing the solar industry with AgTech
    • Defining the respective responsibilities of the public sector, private sector, and nonprofits as the AgTech industry grows.
    • And more…
