We welcome David Schrock to discuss his book The Royal Priesthood and the Glory of God in which he presents a biblical theology that explores the theme of priesthood throughout the Bible. 21-The Structure of the Covenants

    05-Spirit and Truth

    05-Spirit and Truth

In this episode, Kim discusses John 4 and the woman at the well. He shows how this encounter between Jesus and a Samaritan woman is the key to understanding the Bible as a whole. Worshiping God and reading and interpreting the Bible are spiritual endeavors that must be informed by the Holy Spirit in order to be rightly understood. Paul and Peter reinforce this truth in later books of the Bible, but the lesson is the same.

    03-Show Your Work

Gary summarizes the first two recent discussions with Kim Burgess and what we can expect going forward. While many people were enthused and appreciative of the interviews, others have taken issue with them. Gary explains his theological method of reading and interpreting the Bible on its own terms and some questions that arise from reading Scripture in light of Scripture.

    02-Dissection or Vivisection?

    02-Dissection or Vivisection?

Gary continues talking with Kim Burgess about the complete story of the Bible. In this part, Kim likens systematic theology to dissection and biblical theology to vivisection. While both methods seek to understand what the Bible is saying, one works in bits and pieces, while the other works to understand the Bible as an organic whole. Traditional evangelical interpretations are too often informed by the dissection method and less by vivisection.

A preacher walks into a church. A church member asks him, "Can you please preach on worship." The preacher says, "Sure. I've got a great sermon on John 4:24, 'Worship in Spirit and in Truth'.". The church member says, "No, that wouldn't do. The last three preachers preached on that same verse. Do you have something else?" The preacher thought for a while and said, "Nope. I've got nothing." With today's book, you will know how other books in the Bible, verses other than John 4:24, speak on worship.
