Ep. 78 Being Hot And Woke Aren't Mutually Exclusive

Biet Simkin is a global meditation leader. She is called the “Lady Gaga of Meditation” as she combines modern principles, pop culture, and spirituality into her meditation practice and teachings. Biet has overcome so much in her life - from the death of her parents and daughter, to the ups and downs of the music industry, as well as overcoming addiction. I learned so much from her book, Don't Just Sit There!: 44 Insights to Get Your Meditation Practice Off the Cushion and Into the Real World, and I’m so grateful to have her on the podcast this week.

This episode is filled with riffs on mortality, getting sober, incorporating meditation into our daily lives, facing our mortality without fear, and what it means to be on the path to enlightenment.

    In this podcast we discuss:

    • Overcoming adversity
    • Sobriety
    • Finding and choosing peace no matter what is going on in our lives or the world around us
    • Hidden childhood trauma and how it affects our path to enlightenment
    • Divided attention versus fascinated attention
    • What it means to walk the spiritual path
    • Coming to terms with and facing our mortality without fear
    • A mini Q&A about meditation: best times, lengths, and the meaning of boredom

    Episode 33- Biet Simkin

    Episode 33- Biet Simkin

A spiritual teacher and author, Biet was raised by an awakened Shaman to meditate as a toddler. Signed to Sony Records at the age of nineteen, she lived the rock ‘n’ roll glam life in New York City for years, until she finally fell to pieces as a heroin addict. In rapid succession, a near death experience, the tragic deaths of her infant child and father, as well as a fire that burnt down her home, propelled her to sober up. As she moved from meltdowns to miracles, she began to teach meditation to private clients, eventually founding a one of a kind system, Center of the Cyclone™ meditation.

    Ep. 25 - Biet Simkin

    Ep. 25 - Biet Simkin

My guest today is meditation teacher, musician and all around creatrix, Biet Simkin who's based out of NYC.

Biet is a wonderful example of someone who's let her inner life guide her external life (is there really a difference?) which is working out pretty pretty great for her. As you'll hear in the episode Biet is also an incredibly genuine and love-filled person. Coincidentally, my favorite type of person!

Biet is also leading guided sound meditations at Further Future a music and lifestyle festival taking place April 29 through Sunday May 1, 2016 at the Moapa River Indian Reservation near Las Vegas, Nevada. More details inside the episode but Further Future is going to be an amazing time and experience and if I didn't have a baby due right when it was taking place I'd be attending.

Find out more about Further Future here: http://www.furtherfuture.com/

    Topics Discussed in This Episode

    • The blessing of Biet's tragic upbringing
    • Biet's father, Grigori Simkin
    • Overcoming depression and addiction
    • Biet's musical career
    • Changing your mind to change your life
    • Surrendering Suffering
    • Listening to your inner voice
    • Radical Joy
    • Being Sober and Getting High (off your own supply)

Closing song is "Si Do Hymn" from Biet's most recent album, "The Lunar"
