For the November episode of Season 6, Andrew Lambert welcomed Brandon Barrett into the studio for another great conversation. Stuffed with turkey and enjoying the holiday season, this conversation was one for the books!

Brandon Barrett was born in Solsberry, IN, and moved to Bloomington at the age of fourteen when his dad took a position as a police officer. After graduating from high school, Brandon joined the Marine Corps (oorah!) and held the position of machine gunner while stationed at the reserves in Terre Haute. He shares how after leaving the Marines, he ended up working in the energy biz, which ultimately brought him where he is today. 

Brandon shares how his time with the energy company taught him to look out for the interests of others, why the best way to get publicity is to help others, and why he is so successful at running the Barrett Agency - Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance.

Tuttavia, questi profitti non sono stati investiti nella transizione energetica e l'aumento dei prezzi ha generato ingiustizie e disuguaglianze fra i consumatori. Inoltre, queste aziende riescono spesso a dedurre dalle tasse i costi dello spegnimento di pozzi di estrazione o altri costi di compensazione e perdite di progetti di anni precedenti, finendo a volte per ricevere denaro dal governo.

COVER - Nel 2019, due ricercatori di Harvard studiano vecchi documenti di Exxon sull'impatto delle emissioni di CO2 sul clima. Scoprono un grafico risalente al 1977 che prevede l'aumento delle temperature globali e corrisponde con incredibile precisione ai dati reali raccolti negli anni successivi. I ricercatori verificano e scoprono che la scienza dietro il grafico è solida. Nonostante quegli studi da lei stessa prodotti, Exxon nei decenni ha utilizzato una strategia simile a quella delle compagnie di sigarette "Tobacco Industry Playbook", che metteva in dubbio il legame fra fumo e malattie. Oggi, diverse associazioni e comunità hanno citato in giudizio le compagnie petrolifere per il loro impatto sul clima e questa analisi appena pubblicata impedirà a Exxon di difendersi contro le accuse di aver consapevolmente causato buona parte del cambiamento climatico.

ITALIA - La presidente Meloni con i ministri Tajani e Piantedosi, sono volati in Libia per un accordo ENI-NOC da 8 miliardi di investimenti. Chiamato "Patto per il Mediterraneo", ha lo scopo di diversificare le fonti di gas e stabilizzare i flussi migratori. Ma la cosiddetta "Guardia Costiera" libica, a cui sono state donate 5 motovedette, ha commesso diverse violazioni dei diritti umani. Soltanto 3 giorni prima, come rivela un video, è stata minacciosa e incredibilmente aggressiva verso una nave di MSF che soccorreva migranti in difficoltà. Il video è stato pubblicato da Il Fatto Quotidiano.

AL GORE A DAVOS - "Ma non stiamo vincendo! La crisi sta peggiorando più velocemente di quanto non stiamo implementando le soluzioni. Le emissioni sono ancora in aumento. Quando porteremo giù queste emissioni? Continuiamo a buttare 162 milioni di tonnellate di CO2 ogni singolo giorno e la quantità accumulata sta ora intrappolando tanto calore extra quanto sarebbe stato rilasciato da 600.000 bombe atomiche di classe Hiroshima, ogni singolo giorno! Questo è ciò che sta bollendo gli oceani, che crea questi fiumi atmosferici e le bombe d'acqua, risucchia l'umidità dalla terra e crea la siccità, scioglie i ghiacci e alza il livello del mare. E causa queste ondate di rifugiati climatici che si prevede raggiungeranno 1 miliardo in questo secolo.Guardate la xenofobia e le tendenze politiche autoritarie! Si sono sviluppate con soltanto pochi milioni di rifugiati. Cosa succederà con un miliardo? Perderemmo la nostra capacità di autogoverno in questo mondo. Dobbiamo agire ora, prima che sia troppo tardi.Abbiamo sentito parlare di divisioni in questa conferenza tra Nord e Sud e tra Est e Ovest, ma c'è un'altra divisione che sta diventando sempre più evidente tra coloro che sono abbastanza vecchi da avere potere e i giovani di questo mondo. Greta Thunberg è stata appena arrestata in Germania! E sono d'accordo con i suoi sforzi per fermare una miniera di carbone! I giovani in tutto il mondo stanno guardando ciò che stiamo facendo, guardano la Banca Mondiale e dicono: "Hey, avete un negazionista del clima alla guida della Banca Mondiale, quindi vi sorprende che stia completamente fallendo il suo compito?" Il Segretario Generale dice che tutti sanno che la Banca Mondiale sta fallendo in modo grave. Ora abbiamo il processo COP. Cosa dico a questi giovani attivisti che io formo in tutto il mondo quando vengono da me e mi dicono:"Sei d'accordo con l'insediamento dell’amministratore delegato di una delle più grandi compagnie petrolifere al mondo come presidente del COP? È davvero accettabile?"Non è questione di essere una brava persona ne di essere intelligenti ma l'apparenza di un conflitto di interessi mina la fiducia in un momento in cui gli attivisti per il clima, e parlo anche per loro qui sul palco, hanno concluso che le persone in posizione di autorità non stanno facendo il loro lavoro. Dobbiamo riformare queste istituzioni internazionali in modo che le persone di questo mondo, e inclusi i giovani di questo mondo, possano dire che siamo ora in grado di governare il nostro destino. Smetteremo di usare il cielo come una fogna a cielo aperto? Salviamo il futuro e diamo speranza.Possiamo farlo e ricordiamo che la volontà politica è una risorsa rinnovabile."

This week the duo takes the plunge and attacks the infamous Michigan Governor Dick and his ragtime Medical Marijuana Board. This time the state is “confused” on what to do with dispensaries and they are shutting them down and leaving people in the lurches and under criminal investigation. The show continues by talking about a scientific article that has revealed some dirty laundry about “Big Oil”. The team examines the soiled remains of how Oil companies purposely mislead people by claiming Climate Change is not real. The show ends with a frank discussion on Trump’s pardon of Sheriff Joe Arpaio and how this will affect the nation moving forward.
