Monica has created a wonderful life thanks to Cycling. She believes Cycling saved her life as she was working her own PR firm in Hollywood and working 90 hours a week. Crushing it but the work and stress was overwhelming, and it landed her in the hospital with a massive tumor. Thankfully they were able to catch it in time and she has recovered but an event like that made her take a hard look at her life and she knew she had to make a change. While in recovery a friend suggested they go for a short bike ride together, and that was the beginning of her life changing journey with cycling. Since that time, she has ridden her bike across America and has been to 48 states in the US by bike. Additionally she has ridden in 8 countries as well. Born in the Philippines she actually grew up in Los Angeles, and now living in South Korea Monica likes to keep it interesting! She is a true adventurer, she make it easy to follow along or participate in some of her travels thru social media and her website Home - The Cycling CEO . She is the founder of Cycle Travel Club be sure to check out her site or on Social Media, just search thecyclingceo.

Welcome to our first mini-episode! A shorter format in which we talk about a specific aspect of human-powered travel and what makes it so special.
One of the main reasons why we really enjoy traveling by foot or by bike is the profound experience that you live when you travel more slowly, simplify your daily activities and really notice the specific details in the world around you and how this makes your body and soul feel.
We like to say that the “trail provides” and that this can be an incredible experience. Listen to find out what this means and why we might say that this is the main reason why we travel this way.

Enjoy the the latest episode of Don’t Remember Me Like This, the thrilling conclusion to Allez, Américain! A stressful but hilarious story about a very enjoyable bike ride across Europe. We’ve already seen how plans for a simple long distance bike ride can go horribly wrong. In this episode, maybe things don’t get any better. But in the end, it's certainly worth the ride! Enjoy part two of, Allez, Américain!

Back in 2018, before travel restrictions were a thing, we decided to take full advantage of living in the EU by traveling from one country to another on what turned out to be our very first international bike tour.
To be fair we didn't really know what we were getting into, but that's part of of the charm, isn't it? Follow along with us as we make our way northeast from Venice to Koper on a border-hopping trip.

Fidgit and Neon share their story and the mission of Her Odyssey which is to travel the length of the Americas by non-motorized means, connecting the stories of the land and its inhabitants.
Listen in as they share stories from the time they met on the Pacific Crest Trail, the uniqueness of hiking in South America and their most recent journey on the Great Divide Trail. Fidget and Neon's journey is much more than the miles traversed, but an intimate connection formed with the land and the people who live near it.
Bethany’s love of mountains began when she was 4 years old, following her father into the Andes of Ecuador and Chile. As Bethany walks through the areas where she first learned of the beauty and possibilities of the world—as well as the deep inequalities—she hopes to inspire everyone who follows to dream big and to foster access for women and children to resources, both internal and external, which can help to make their dreams reality. (read entire bio here)
Originally from Pennsylvania, Lauren (aka Neon) spent much of her younger days discovering the outside world, sometimes with one or more of her three siblings. As she grew up, she continued expanding her hobbies and interests in the outdoors. While attending University, she led trips with the school’s outing club while working toward degrees in Hospitality Management and Commercial Recreation Management (read entire bio here)

The very last thing Yair Kellner said after this captivating conversation, and talking about more than 60 years of adventure, outdoors, camping, hiking, paddle-boarding, canoeing, climbing and bike-packing was this; It's never too late to have a happy childhood. Now in his mid-sixties, Yair is still loving his childhood, and all the adventures that go with it.
From the age of five he has had a passion for the great outdoors, the beauty of nature, and learning to adapt in environments much different to the one most of us are used to. The lessons he has picked up along the way are not just about how to survive when you fall through the ice in 30-50 degree below temperatures with an 80kg fully-laden bike. He has learned about perspective, humility, peace, mindfulness, determination and understanding the rules that each situation requires.
How he survived in Alaska, when all the odds were stacked against him, is a story you don't want to miss. I mean, when taking all your clothes off after getting out of the below zero river to avoid them encasing you in the 30 degree below outside air is your best option for survival, you know things are bad. This is a man with calm courage, life experience, amazing wisdom and powerful stories. This is a wonderful conversation you will want to enjoy.

This week we've gone for a completely different approach.
Instead of delving into the life of an adventurer or activist I've teamed up with a co-host, Adam Hugill, to give you our best cycle touring and bikepacking tips.
There's something for everyone in here from absolute beginners to more experienced bike rats. Our top tips range from the bigger overarching tidbits of advice, right down to specific bits of kit.
Adam's bike toured in Europe, South East Asia, Japan, and North America. He has an awesome YouTube channel too which you'll find in the show notes.
I share my stories bikepacking from our 18 month trip from Alaska to Panama seeking out the best long-distance off-road tracks and trails.
Get listening and get planning your next trip.
Dennis and I reconnect after his 2,500-mile bike ride where he attended the BLM march in DC and raised money for Native causes. Dennis speaks of the multiple levels of adventure he had as well as a few ugly moments along the way. But he is home safe and sound almost three months later.
Additional topics include the simple life, mental health, homelessness, lost loves, and one of our favorite topics, addiction.
I lose my shit during one question from Dennis and you will hear tears flow. The other tearful topic got cut because of time and irrelevant content. This is Part 1 of two parts so watch for the continuation next week in Episode #9. Thank you.

When Rob Britton got into bikepacking, he really went for it. In 2018, the Tour of Utah winner set off from Calgary to Port Renfrew, B.C., on a nine-day adventure. The saddle time seemed to prepare him nicely for spending the day in the breakaway at the world championship road race soon after. Since then, Britton has continued to have some long adventures on his bike, including a big trip to Japan in November 2019 and a gravel epic earlier this year.
In this episode, Britton covers all kinds of topics related to bikepacking. He talks about how he sometimes pushes himself and his friends. He’s very safety conscious, and even has some good advice about when and how to take risks. There’s discussion about gear, including his go-to equipment list. He puts a lot of thought into every gram including what goes in his flask.
After you hear this interview with Rob Britton, you’ll want to plan a big cycling adventure.
