4月はアニメ / April is For Anime: Dead Leaves

"If you want to get cast in a movie, call Emilio Estevez an idiot."
We didn't say it, but our guest did.  A total '80s icon himself, it is none other than
    Dean "Chainsaw" Cameron.

Laughter is a great way to start, so that's what we did as this wild episode unfolded.
We've been trying to convince Dangerous Dave to watch anime, but so far we have not been able to convince him that it is an art form.
All he said was," oh great another cartoon that starts out with (blank) out."
We bring you the wild rocket ride of this movie --- Dead Leaves, which plays out like an extended music video on acid.  Nicky Lates said,"holy $%^# this movie is so crazy, it's like I just did 10 lines of coke while watching this."

Dead Leaves is about these two whimsical rascals Pandy and Retro, who awaken with no memories of their past.  They set off on a crime spree, eventually finding themselves in an infamous prison on the moon where the warden has been experimenting on the prisoners.  They lead the prisoners in a revolt that is mind-blowing.

We are joined by Dean Cameron to make this podcast the greatest Dean Cameron interview of all by asking him the same 10 questions everyone asks Dean Cameron.

However, Dean does reveal potential plot details of a Ski School 3, "partying" with the It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia gang, and we explore more than Dean's acting chops because we also riff about his musical journey.

We can appreciate that Dean played the first binge-watcher in cinema history with his role as Chainsaw in Summer School.

We pitch Dean Cameron on the Dean Cameron Netflix show.

He shares set stories, props, and explains why they had to reshoot the ending of Men At Work.

Double Feature: Train To Busan And Black Death

Double Feature: Train To Busan And Black Death

“Train to Busan takes the best parts of every zombie movie and this Black Death movie has one of the most brutal Sean Bean scenes of all time.”

    On this awesome episode:

    • Train to Busan and Black Death are filled with “essential” personalities that are totally screwed and in harm’s way.
    • Stay with us, folks! It’s a double feature episode!!!
    • Love for Don Lee, Ma Dong-Seok who is about to kick ass as Gilgamesh in Marvel’s The Eternals.
    • In this movie, Don Lee plays a tough guy like Dwayne Johnson with “big dick energy.”
    • Train to Busan is a zombie movie, however, it has won film-making awards.
    • Doomed characters that you can not help but love.
    • Missions with high mortality rates are discussed like the journey the knights take in Black Death.
    • We imagine what it must be like to be trapped in a train filled with blood-thirsty zombies.
    • Busan respects the zombie movie rules, but defies expectations and finds a way to do something new.
    • The dad in T2B learns to be a good person and make sacrifices.
    • And then there is the jerk that gets a lot of people killed.
    • There is an amazing escalator sequence in Busan involving the escaping survivors.
    • Right now the world is being defined as “Essential” or “Non-Essential.”

    Viral Hits: Outbreak Movie

"Trying to get ahead of the Coronavirus ourselves here, or at least in terms of podcasting, anyway.  We hope the government has a better emergency response team.  We're at least going to talk about viral outbreak movies.  We can keep you entertained while you sit at home. Frightened?"

    • As long as the cable TV and the internet keep working, we will have something to say and things to think about it.
    • God's favorite human being, Tom Hanks has contracted Coronavirus, so we're all doomed.
    • America's dad is quarantined in Australia right now with his wife.
    • Outbreak was Dustin Hoffman's best chance to be an action hero.
    • Upon revisiting this movie, it is very melodramatic and not accurate according to the CDC.
    • However, this Outbreak movie is currently trending on Netflix's Top 10 movies of the week.
    • We explain why sharing food with a monkey is probably a bad idea.
    • Why '90s movies were so exaggerated, and why they tried so hard to raise the stakes.
    • Dustin Hoffman bails on his mission to save a whole town half-way through the movie and goes on a personal quest to save his wife.
    • Accidentally, maybe the town gets saved too --- watch to find out.
    • Personal stories of dealing with Coronavirus antics, misinformation, human beings behaving badly. and such gems as two women fighting over pork chops in an empty grocery store.
    • Quotes from a CDC expert that reviewed Outbreak for inaccuracies and discovered some truths to the Contagion movie.

I Love You to Death is a 1990 American black comedy film directed by Lawrence Kasdan and starring an ensemble cast featuring Kevin Kline, Tracey Ullman, Joan Plowright, River Phoenix, William Hurt, and Keanu Reeves.

The screenplay by John Kostmayer is loosely based on an attempted murder that happened in 1983, in Allentown, Pennsylvania, where Frances Toto repeatedly tried to kill her husband, Anthony.  She spent four years in prison for attempted murder and was released in 1988.

Bad Romances: Success - The Jeff Bridges Deep Cut - Jeff Bridges Movies

Bad Romances: Success - The Jeff Bridges Deep Cut - Jeff Bridges Movies

“The road to the Dude is paved with Success. By success, we mean the $hit that came before it. In a movie Jeff Bridges wishes Amazon hadn’t added to Prime Video.”

A meek husband turns into a tough guy and studies sex in order to succeed in business, impress his tycoon father and improve his marriage.

The American Success Company is a 1980 American film directed by William Richert and starring Jeff Bridges. It was written by Larry Cohen. Re-edited versions of the film have appeared under the titles American Success, Success, The Ringer, and Good as Gold.

Harry Flowers (Bridges) is routinely humiliated both at home and at work (the German offices of an American credit card company). Fed up, he hires prostitute Corinne (Bianca Jagger) to help him gain revenge on his quirky wife Sarah (Belinda Bauer) and her father/his boss, the overbearing Mr. Elliott (Ned Beatty) — all while enriching himself financially.

    Don’t watch this movie.

Here is another movie called Seventh Son, also on a list of Jeff Bridges worst movies, but people love it because of the magic, the dragon, the witches, and Jeff Bridges being Jeff Bridges.

Here is one of Jeff Bridges’s best movies.  He sings.  He mourns an incomplete life in Crazy Heart.
