May 15, 2023 - This episode of The Omnibus Show will feature organizers of the inaugural Carmel Jazz Fest, Blair Clark and Ashley Ulbricht.
Carmel Jazz Fest will welcome Jazz, Blues, and R&B artists from around the nation on August 11 and 12, performing in venues all around Carmel. Spyro Gyra is the headliner with other famed acts such as Evelyn Champagne King and 2014 ‘The Voice’ winner, Josh Kaufman – in total over 30 acts. There are 8 ‘official’ venues along with many ‘pop-ups’ around Carmel. Venues include The Palladium, The Tarkington Theater, Feinstein’s at The Hotel Carmichael, the Midtown Stage, and the Carmel Gazebo.
Blair Clark is the Founder, Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Carmel Jazz Festival. Take a little pop, throw in some R&B, mix it with some soul, and add a touch of jazz and the result is the electrifying sound of Blair Clark. Clark has captivated audiences throughout Europe, Canada, and all over the U.S. He has worked with Grammy award-winner/producer Narada Michael Walden, BMI ® award-winner Preston Glass, and New Orleans jazz legend, Henry Butler, to name a few. He’s enjoyed collaborating and recording with Evelyn “Champagne” King and Ron Tyson of The Temptations.
A producer, Clark has created and worked in studios in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, and Indianapolis. Clark’s lifetime passion for music and education inspired him to create the Carmel Jazz Fest. Performing at the festival, Clark will play some original music as well as performing a song co-written by Preston Glass and the late Al Jarreau that was never previously released.
Ashley Ulbricht is the Carmel Jazz Fest board president. Ulbricht is an attorney for Taft in Indianapolis. She came to know Blair Clark when he gave her voice lessons.
Ashley focuses her municipal practice in litigation with a concentration on redevelopment, real estate, utility and telecommunications, zoning and planning, land use, music and movie licensing, and employment law. Prior to joining Taft, Ashley served as City Attorney for the City of Carmel and General Counsel to the Carmel Redevelopment Commission. She began her legal career serving as a deputy prosecuting attorney.
Ulbricht will be performing and showcasing her electronic violin skills at the festival. She and Clark are excited to incorporate their love of music in bringing this festival to Carmel.
