Shut Me Up - Hudson Valley's Sarah Owens

Sarah Owens from Hudson Valley talks about their latest release, Shut Me Up.
    ******
Hudson Valley is the result of fiery rock ‘n’ roll and pop-punk melded into a female-fronted country band that has achieved more in the first few years of inception than most. Not only did their first EP “Seven” debuted at #17 on the iTunes Country AlbumChart – their debut single “Can’t Have Nothin’ Nice” was picked up by Radio DisneyCountry with the music video still in rotation at all Ole Red locations. Even after the initial success, the band proceeded to sell-out shows at The Listening Room, 3rd, and Lindsley and The Bluebird Cafe.
Their upcoming single, “Shut Me Up,” expertly converts the Old Dominion track into an electrifying country-rock track, putting their undeniable talent and full-throttle sound on display.

    Spensha Baker

    Spensha Baker

Spensha Baker, who is known for being on Team Blake on NBC’s The Voice, joins Paul Cardall on the 34th episode of All Heart. Both artists met at the White House where they performed at the 2018 National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. Paul recently caught up with Spensha at the Gospel Music Association Dove Awards and discovered how God has led her on a path that is inspirational to anyone with a gift they are compelled to share with the world. As the daughter of military parents who were based in San Antonio, Texas and as a devout Christian, Spensha signed with Geffen Records as a child. She recorded one gospel album only to leave after taking a 3-year break to redefine her goals. She moved to Nashville in pursuit of a deep love for country music. On The Voice, she became the first black woman to make it to the final four. Paul and Spensha discuss the challenges of life in Nashville and what led her back to Texas. Spensha again took a 3-year break to rediscover her passion to follow God’s lead. After this, she caught the attention of Rascal Flatts, Jay DeMarcus. Jay is  a CEO and owner of the Christian label Red Street Records. Jay said, “When I first heard Spensha sing, I was taken by her voice. When we finally got to meet and she shared her passion for music and for God, we knew we wanted to be a part of her musical journey. We are excited for the road ahead.”

Spensha will be joining veteran Christian artists on the RSR roster that includes Jason Crabb, Avalon and rising stars Cade Thompson, Iveth Luna and Lauren Camey. This inspiring conversation offers valuable advice and insight into the challenges artists face in pursuing a music career.

    SPENSHA BAKER BIO

A star of Season 14 of The Voicein 2018, Spensha Baker is breaking down barriers in country music with a genre-defying sound infused with gospel roots. As a member of Team Blake, she was the first black female country singer to make it to the Top 4. Her songs from the show consistently landed in the Top 10 on iTunes. Her rendition of original song, "Old Soul," hit #1 on the Country chart and #3 on the overall chart.

As a performer since the tender age of 6, Spensha Baker got her start in gospel music. She made appearances on Christian Artist Talent Search and Star Search, before signing with Geffen Records to release her debut album Outloud!at the age of 15. Later, after a 3-year break from music, she redefined her goals and relocated to Nashville. She became inspired by storytelling through the art of country music and reluctantly agreed to audition for The Voice at the urging of her mother.  “It’s funny how you can run away from your purpose, but God always has a way of bringing you right back around to it," recalls Baker.

With both of her parents being retired military veterans, Baker spent most of her childhood moving constantly to different military bases and has developed a personal commitment to our nation's troops. Spensha dedicated her first album to all American soldiers and their families. She has made appearances at numerous military events, including performing for President George W. Bush at Fort Hood.

    The “Michael Myers” Halloween Episode

    The “Michael Myers” Halloween Episode

Makahla is a huge lover of Halloween but when we developed the show this was one backyard we knew we had to go to! We were privileged to catch Makahla on a break from work to talk all things ranging from Halloween to her dance background to living in L.A. We talk about where her love for decorating came from and how she can go full mom mode somedays with the themes. We go back and forth on what we love and hate about haunted houses. Then eventually we get into what our favorite scary movies are. We jump into dance and how most people don’t realize it's a pretty difficult lifestyle. As we start to remember some of the funny memories we have shared we hit on fun tours like Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan and Austin Mahone which reminds us just how small the music industry world is and especially the country music world.

There is even more proof that Britney's family might be just trying to surf off of her fame for their profit. Gwen and Blake got hitched and something about that has rightfully upset a ton of No Doubt fans. Demi Lovato's behavior has some fans concerned. Wendy Williams seems to lack compassion.

Ep. 167 - MARTY DODSON ("Must Be Doin' Something Right")

Ep. 167 - MARTY DODSON ("Must Be Doin' Something Right")

    Summary:
Our guest on this episode of Songcraft is Marty Dodson, who has written #1 singles such as “Everybody Wants to Go to Heaven” for Kenny Chesney and “Must Be Doin’ Something Right” for Billy Currington. The Nashville hitmaker joins us to discuss his songwriting journey, and give us further insight into Songtown, the songwriter community he co-founded to provide quality resources for aspiring professionals.

    Part One:
Scott and Paul talk about their favorite music podcasts of the moment.

    Part Two:
Our in-depth interview with Marty Dodson.

    About Marty Dodson:

One of the rare Nashville songwriters who actually grew up in Nashville, Marty Dodson changed careers as a young adult to dedicate himself to his passion for writing songs. Much of his success came in the country world with singles such as Rascal Flatts’ Top 10 hit “While You Loved Me,” Carrie Underwood’s “Songs Like This,” Kenny Chesney’s multi-week #1 hit “Everybody Wants to Go to Heaven,” Charlie Worsham’s debut single “Could It Be,” Blake Shelton’s “Doing it to Country Songs.” and two Billy Currington chart-toppers, “Must Be Doin’ Something’ Right” and “Let Me Down Easy.”

Never one to limit himself to a single genre, Marty has also collaborated with Tom Higgenson of the rock band Plain White T’s, which recorded two of his songs, and has had his compositions recorded by everyone from Joe Cocker, who had an international #1 with Marty’s “Fire It Up,” to Cho Yong Pil, a South Korean superstar who had a multi-week #1 with Marty’s song “Bounce.”

In addition to his writing, Marty is the co-founder of Songtown, a creative community of aspiring writers that provides blog posts, webinars, podcasts, and even books, including two co-authored by Marty: Song Building: Mastering Lyric Writing, and The Songwriter’s Guide to Mastering Co-Writing.

Eat! Drink! Smoke! - Episode 127 - Blake Shelton Has His Own Hard Seltzer, The Top Ten Beer Cities, A Review of Nickel and Nickel Cabernet and The Opus X Forbidden cigar
Some cigars are unicorns. Not just rare, but beyond rare. That's the case with the tobaccos compiled at Chateau De La Fuente for the Opus X Forbidden cigar. Why something so rare, and so expensive? Because Fingers and Tony were heading out on some well deserved vacations, so they figured, why not? Tony Katz and Fingers Malloy (http://eatdrinksmokeshow.com) host Eat! Drink! Smoke! (http://facebook.com/eatdrinksmoke) Along with the Opus X, they go outside bourbon to review Nickel and Nickel State Ranch 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon. Again...vacation. (Tony found this wine to be brilliant. For Fingers, it was the third time in his life he's ever had wine.) Our favorite list this week? The Top Ten Beer Citites in America. Fingers has the News of the Week, including country singer Blake Shelton starting his own line of hard seltzer. Pizza Hut is retrofitting 15,000 stores to have drive-thrus. The lists are out for the best Easter candy, and why is everyone looking up boiled eggs? Get the podcast. Click Here! (http://bit.ly/eatdrinksmoke)

Ep. 50 - Modern Spins on Country Themes w/ Angela Stefano

Ep. 50 - Modern Spins on Country Themes w/ Angela Stefano

Eric and Craig this week continue their interest in how fans engage, interact and consume music in the streaming age. Today's guest, Angela Stefano, editor in chief of TheBoot.com, a leading Nashville-based country and Americana music blog, has some interesting ideas about the subject. The discussion begins with Eric Church's recent announcement on releasing three separate albums in April and how that might be received as the album as a stand-alone art form has diminished importance. From there, the discussion moved to country album tracks that catch fan's interest, becoming a popular fan-favorite "deep track."  The interview wraps with the trios take on Blake Shelton's new single "Minimum Wage," and the challenge artists have employing traditional country themes in the social media age.

In Chapter Two, "At the Half," Eric and Craig present their all-time best and worst Super Bowl halftime performances. As regular listeners might imagine, there isn't much agreement between the two co-hosts but the dialog takes a nice walk down memory lane with Super Bowl halftimes past -- the good, the bad and the ugly.

In Chapter Three, "Cardinal Steal," Eric and Craig talk about the week's baseball news, including the Nolan Arenado trade, the Trevor Bauer signing, the Myles Straw MLB.com radio interview.
