    Wayne’s World (1992)

    Wayne’s World (1992)

Happy 30th Anniversary to one of the goofiest and most influential buddy comedies of the ‘90’s starring, based on the Saturday Night Live skit of the same name.

It stars Mike Myers as the titular Wayne and Dana Carvey as his best friend Garth – together they host the show “Wayne’s World” on public access TV out of Wayne’s basement in Aurora, IL.  We follow their adventures as both of them are recruited by a nefarious producer played by Rob Lowe to broadcast their show….and get paid for it.  Along the way, Wayne falls in love with local rocker Cassandra played by Tia Carrera.

Directed by Penelope Spheeris, this film is loaded to the gills with early ‘90’s excellence – let's see if it's worthy...

    Host: Geoff Gershon
    Producer: Marlene Gershon

Ep. 102: Degrees Of Separation... QUEEN + Craig Elvin

Ep. 102: Degrees Of Separation... QUEEN + Craig Elvin

We've never had back-to-back “Degrees Of Separation…” episodes, but when you get a call from around the world; you answer! Our good friend and bronze medalist winner: Craig “Tres” Elvin is back to educate us all on the more obscure side projects and solo releases from a not-so-obscure you may have heard of... This week we bring you the might and majesty of Brian, Roger, John, and Freddie… QUEEN. How do they fare on their own you ask???

New to InObscuria? It’s all about excavating obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal from one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. While we may be talking about one of the biggest bands ever in this episode, perhaps you are not aware of the depth of side projects they have had over their long careers. Our hope is that we turn you on to something new!

    Songs this week include:

    1. Brian May - “Resurrection” from Back To The Light (1992)
    2. Roger Taylor - “No Violins” from Fun In Space (1981)
    3. Brian May + Friends - “Star Fleet” from Star Fleet Project (1983)
    4. Jive Junior & Man Friday - “Picking Up Sounds” from Single (1983)
    5. John Deacon & The Immortals - “No Turning Back” from Biggles: Adventures In Time Soundtrack (1986)
    6. Black Sabbath - “When Death Calls” from Headless Cross (1989)
    7. Magnum - “Vigilante” from Vigilante (1986)
    8. Foo Fighters + Brian May - “Have A Cigar” from Mission Impossible 2: Music From & Inspired By M:i2 (2000)

Queen | Episodio 4: El Show Debe Continuar

Queen | Episodio 4: El Show Debe Continuar

Ep 37: FUN! - Wayne's World & The Princess Diaries (Novel)
Welcome back friends! We're now in the heat of summer and what better way to celebrate than with some good ol' fashion (TM) stories about FUN! In this episode, we take a look at the 90's classic Wayne's World and the novel The Princess Diaries - which would go on to be an iconic 2000's movie. We've been packing a lot of adventures and fun times into our summer already and hopefully our listeners are too. We'd love to hear that you all are looking forward to in the up coming hot months, and hope you pop your ear buds in, take a nap on the beach, and listen to some Parallel Fiction to unwind. Thanks for listening!

81: A Cube of Cold Opens

81: A Cube of Cold Opens

What is this week's episode about, you might ask? Why, it has a delightfully floral scent, almost like... a potpourri. You could say it's sort of a buffet, offering a little something for everyone. It's a little from column A, a little from columns B through Z. In fact, this episode may be about everything under the sun and also nothing at all.

Queen - How did they reproduce Bohemian Rhapsody in concert?

Queen - How did they reproduce Bohemian Rhapsody in concert?

Queen had just released “Bohemian Rhapsody” in 1976, with a ground-breaking film clip, and the question was, “Can they play the clip live?”.  Well, they not only did it, but they blew everyone's socks off!

Mick and the Phatman were there and recall one of the best concerts ever seen in Australia.

From Freddy Mercury appearing in silhouette, to a leap straight into a perfect recreation of the "rock" part of the song they showed 5,000 awestruck Aussies how it was done!

References:  Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody, Sugar, Copper Blue, Bob Mould, Husker Du, ABBA, Toto, Frenzal Rhomb and a show with Bo Diddley, Sherbet and Cold Chisel all on the one bill.

    Wayne's World (1992)

    Wayne's World (1992)

    "You'll laugh! You'll cry! You'll hurl!"

And we're giving you a no honk guarantee as we head back to the 90's once more, where two 20-something slackers party on excellently while hosting a low-budget cable access talk show from their parent's basement in the suburbs of Chicago.

That's right, it's Wayne's World, Wayne's World, party time, excellent!!

Forever ingrained in modern pop culture with catchphrases such as "Schwing!" and "Shyeah!" and also rightly credited for reviving legendary rock band, Queen, and re-popularizing their immortal rock ballad "Bohemian Rhapsody" which has been head-banged and rocked out to constantly worldwide in the almost 30 years since!!

So join us as we find out just how hard 1992's Wayne's World parties on, if corporate sponsorship should ever be bended to, but most importantly just how WORTHY Wayne's World is in modern pop culture!

"Party on, Wayne! Party on, Garth!"
