Episode 225: Joel York - Founder of the Blue Collar Club

Episode 225: Joel York - Founder of the Blue Collar Club

Joel York founded the Blue Collar Club to help raise funds for various Boise State athletic programs. They have a goal of getting their number of donors to 10,000, and on the show today you're going to learn all about what this all entails.

Each donation goes a long way. It can be as small as $10 a month or even just a one-time donation. But Joel will explain just how much needs to be donated for a student athlete to cover their books for a semester, and various other costs that go into being a student athlete at Boise State University.

With this interview, the hope is you will share this with others around you. Part of being part of the Blue Collar Club is you get to have a network and community of Boise State fans around you! It's bigger than simply "putting your money out there."

Listen in as Joel will explain it all to you on the meetups they do as a club, as well as the fun things that go on with the donations as well!

Please share with ANY Bronco fan. This isn't something that is specific to alumni of the University. Rather it's for anyone who would like to contribute!

You'll notice how big time programs (which we talk about) get a lot of their funding, and that's through donations. And while some of those donations could be larger amounts, they also have THOUSANDS of smaller donations coming in from various individuals.

Help us spread the message! And if you have any questions on the Blue Collar Club, make sure to follow Joel on the various social media platforms:

David Mckinzie, who is known as D-Mac, came to Boise State as a preferred walk-on as a Wide Receiver. Coming from Texas and after having a solid high school career, he was excited to come to a winning program like the Broncos.

What's awesome about his story is, although his college career may not have been exactly what he had envisioned when originally coming to play football, he took advantage of a lot of opportunities that were presented to him, and he took those skillsets he acquired to his "post-college" phase of his life!

D-Mac was fighting for a spot to play alongside some of the very best wide receivers to go through Boise State. He learned from some of the best at the position throughout his four and a half years, and today we get to hear what it was like being in his position.

It's a perfect interview for athletes who are fighting for playing time and for those looking to see what they can learn from these types of experiences. D-Mac is the true example of being a team player, putting his best work in everyday without any guarantees, but then also leveraging his network for his post-college career!

There's a reason he's crushing it as an entrepreneur these days and is doing big things to help in a lot of areas. He gets to give back at Boise State by helping with the overall in-game experience for fans at the football games (something I've experienced personally).

It's important to listen and learn from someone like D-Mac, as he's been there and knows the steps it takes to get there. So pay attention!

Award-winning professor wants to change the way materials corrode

There’s a complex interplay between a material and its environment. People see the result of this relationship more often than they realize, like when noticing corrosion or rust on metal objects. But there are underlying mechanisms that go way beyond just what is seen. Mike Hurley, an assistant professor in the Micron School of Materials Science and Engineering and one of the five National Science Foundation CAREER awardees representing Boise State for 2020, is using state-of-the-art instruments and methods to go much deeper into this fascinating relationship. His research also looks to guide engineers to design materials with new, innovative properties that are more reliable than ever before.
