How Creators Are Creating Money for Their Communities, with Bradley Miles of Roll

How Creators Are Creating Money for Their Communities, with Bradley Miles of Roll

After all the scams of the 2017 ICO craze, there's a new wave of genuine creators and communities creating serious value with social currencies. Bradley Miles is the CEO of a startup called Roll, which facilitates this process for creators.

    ➡️  Bradley on Twitter: @Bradley_Miles_

A few weeks ago I started talking with Bradley, who is one of the founders of a startup called Roll. What they're doing is they're trying to make it super easy for creators and communities to create their own social tokens on the blockchain, on Ethereum.

It's interesting because this was a practice that became somewhat notorious a few years ago in what's known as the ICO craze, the initial coin offerings of around 2017. There were basically just a lot of scammers. There were a lot of people who would launch a token, and would hype it up, get a bunch of people to buy into it, and then just sell it and basically profit off of the people that got in on it.

But now there's this new wave of genuine creators and durable communities that are using social tokens. And they're creating real value, and they're working and they're sustaining. And many of them are trading on the open market, for sometimes very good amounts of US dollars. And it just seems to me like a very real way in which creators and communities are generating real value and wealth potentially, in the long run, for themselves, in this autonomous bootstrapped way. So obviously I'm just super interested in that.

I'm definitely still thinking about how I might do it because I don't want to do anything like this unless I have a clear model in my mind of how it works and what I'm trying to do. So I'm still researching and thinking, but I think I'm going to launch a social currency for my community and I'm quite excited by it. I think there could be real upside and I want to take it seriously and try my best shot at making something really interesting and valuable for everyone who listens to or participates in my various projects . And I've been talking with Bradley quite a lot over the past few weeks. Thinking about it and strategizing and yeah... He's super cool, I think he's super legit. And I think he really believes in the project and he has also investors that I know and trust like Balaji Srinivasan.

I figured I'd have him on the podcast so he could share what he's doing and we can introduce the idea to the audience of the podcast and my broader community. So I'd love to hear what you think.

#32 | June Q&A: The Difference Between HypnoBirthing and Bradley, When Formula Might be Needed, What's a Cystocele, When To Allow Family Members at the Birth, Membrane Stripping and Vaginal Exams

#32 | June Q&A: The Difference Between HypnoBirthing and Bradley, When Formula Might be Needed, What's a Cystocele, When To Allow Family Members at the Birth, Membrane Stripping and Vaginal Exams

It's the last Wednesday of the month, which means it’s time to answer your pregnancy, breastfeeding, birth and postpartum questions. Today we're discussing birth support and boundaries, especially when it comes to having a family member, like your own mother, attend your birth. Next, we discuss membrane-stripping for full-term pregnant women. Is it safe? Is it effective? How well does it work? Our breastfeeding topic today is around supplementing with formula--when is it really needed and what can you do to increase your supply? Next we dive into HypnoBirthing and discuss how it differs from the Bradley method.  Cystocele? What's that, and what you can do about it if you have one? Finally, Cynthia asks Trisha some of the most common questions her clients ask: How can a provider tell how many centimeters dilated a laboring woman is, and is it really true that all women get to exactly ten centimeters?

Don't forget to see our chapter markers if you want to look for a specific question.

Thank you to all of our listeners who submitted questions for this month's Q&A - keep them coming. Call us at 802-GET-DOWN to submit your own question. We love to hear from you!

E217: BGR217: Fractal Brewing Project With Bradley "Robo" Robison and Larry Lowe

E217: BGR217: Fractal Brewing Project With Bradley "Robo" Robison and Larry Lowe
Beer and math and ancient yeast mix it up at Fractal Brewing Project

Fractal Brewing Project is one of the new kids on the Huntsville beer scene but their Head Brewer Bradley "Robo" Robison isn't new to the game.  Robo previously brewed at Huntsville's Below the Radar and Rocket Republic, and he also served the good 'ol US of A in the United States Marine Corps.

Robo and brewery owner Larry Lowe joined us in the studio this week to open some beers and chat.  We talk about their awesome Grisette that uses a revived 18th Century yeast and the origins of this style, originally brewed for miners.  We press them on their stance on hard seltzer and why craft breweries are jumping on that bandwagon, and if there's much difference in a seltzer or a beer with cereal or candy in it.

Fractal is in Straight To Ale's original building (Straight to Ale has moved to the Campus 805 development in Huntsville) and how they want to preserve everyone's good memories of the place while offering them a new and exciting experience.  We really enjoyed the brews we tried - the aforementioned Grisette, a Saison, an Amber Ale, a Fruited Sour, and a fantastic Baltic Porter.  If you're heading to Huntsville stop by the taproom and try your hand at a math problem or two while enjoying some of their tasty brews.

This week you better have your eyes lubricated because we are side eyeing EVERYTHANG- from California and it's horrible history of the genocide of Indigenous People, to a certain celebrity who just keeps fucking up! The duo also talk about when to have tough conversations with people- James gives examples and Nnekay gives more examples as to why the many tiny mistreatment of black women in the medical field could lead to Black Maternal Mortality.
