Ep. #146 Alcohol As A Catalyst For Connection

Ep. #146 Alcohol As A Catalyst For Connection

Alcohol as a catalyst for connection only ever allows you to go as deep as your thoughts that you need alcohol to connect will allow you.

Is alcohol creating more connection or just inhibiting your thoughts that stop you from going deeper?

When we interrupt our limiting thoughts by dissociating vs. examining them, we never give ourselves a chance to move past them.
We condition our behavior and settle for the status quo.

What ultimately creates a strong connection or relationship? Is it bypassing vulnerably and discomfort.
Do you even have to start there or can you feel ease with connection skills you already have?

    Today we explore:
    -What does create a relationship?
-What is the catalyst you want for your connections? Is drinking no longer it?
-How you can use evidence in other areas as a focal point for connection in social situations where alcohol is present.
-How would things be different if we used being human as the only catalyst for connection we needed?

E288: 25th Annual Classic City Brewfest

E288: 25th Annual Classic City Brewfest
Cask Ales and camaraderie in Athens, GA

A lot has changed in craft beer in the last 25 years, and Classic City Brew Fest has been there through it all.  Organizer Owen Ogletree tells us about the changes over the years and the great cause the fest supports.

We've been attending this event for several years now.  We always grab a few of the brewers and chat a bit about what's happening with their brewery.  This year we sat down with Carey Charles from Arches Brewing for some hot lager talk.  Arches is one of the first breweries in Georgia to take the bold step of being lager-focused, and they're doing a damn fine job of it.

Nick Tanner and Ramsay Florence from Cherry Street Brewing join to talk about Nick's two brewpubs, crazy beer laws, and why that helped them make the choice to open a production brewery across state lines in Chattanooga, TN.  Note:  Chery Street's Halcyon location has some of the best fish and chips I've tried.  I want some more right now.

Speaking of crazy beer laws... Joseph Cortes, Executive Director of the Georgia Craft Brewers Guild, joins us as well.  He was new to craft beer when he took on his role, but not new to politics.  Cortes shares that the political side of beer is a crazy place to be.  We learn about some of the challenges facing brewers and what's on the agenda for the Guild.

    The Beer List

    • Cherry Street Brewing Grease Monkey BBA English Barleywine
    • MAZURT The Time of Returning Nordic Quad
    • And a whole lot more...

Nate and Mitch are Living in Extreme Days

Nate and Mitch are Living in Extreme Days

Nate and Mitch dive into the seedy underbelly of reddit by willingly typing into their search bars r/gooncaves as well as, the now defunct, r/brapbarn (R.I.P). Naturally this leads into a conversation of unfortunate toilet trips while in a Cambodian village, Extreme Days (the 2001 movie shown at every youth group across America), Minnesota accents, and bonding by brewfest belly and bass slaps. Enjoy!

E172: Athens, GA's Akademia Brewing and Athentic Brewing

E172: Athens, GA's Akademia Brewing and Athentic Brewing

The Classic City Brew Fest in an Athens institution.  In its 24th year, a lot has changed since organizer Owen Ogletree founded the event.  Last year, the festival made a big switch amid the flood of "regular" beer festivals and went to a primarily cask ale format.

This year, we catch up with Akademia Brewing to see what the last 12 months held for them.  Their beer is available in cans now, and they've recently remodeled and added a larger lounge to their brewpub.  Owners Matt Casey and Morgan Wireman join us to fill us in.

We also catch up with a soon-to-be brewery in the Normaltown neighborhood of Athens.  Athentic Brewing gives a nod to their city and their logo (shaped like a guitar pick) pays homage to the rich musical history of Athens, home to bands like REM, THe B-52s, Drive by Truckers, and Widespread Panic.

    Episode 004 - Reddit, Rogues, Party Crashing & B******t
Late last week, Gankly uncovered a secret party taking place very soon in Dustwallow Marsh by the Alliance. He decided Ian & James could crash it as only they can, but only after they dove deep into Challenge modes, XP adjustments for MOP, Brewfest, The WoW Developer Reddit AMA & Patch 5.05 for this week’s L85URP show. So, they have.
