The Buff presents: A January Transfer Deadline Day Special

WELCOME to a very special edition of The Buff Podcast, getting you in the mood for Transfer Deadline Day!

It promises to be a busy day for Bolton as they look to put the finishing touches to their squad for the promotion push.

Will they succeed in their big money chase for Bristol Rovers' Aaron Collins?

Will injuries force them back into the transfer market for a defender?

How will new boys Calvin Ramsay and Nat Ogbeta fit in?

And could there be a late sting in the tail with outgoing transfers?

All of these questions are tackled by Marc Iles and Henry Hewitt in the first of TWO Buff Podcasts this week!

Our regular episode will be out, as normal, on Friday.

WELCOME back to The Buff Podcast, and what will be our final show before Christmas.

Marc and Henry are here to review all the week's headlines at Bolton Wanderers, including another bad day at the office against Bristol Rovers, and - hopefully - and change of fortune against Leyton Orient.

Apologies for any sound issues which you may encounter with Marc's microphone. He has asked for a new one from Father Christmas and is just trying to get it through expenses.

The lads discuss the away wins over Crewe Alexandra in the FA Cup and high-flying Bolton Wanderers in the league, and look ahead to a tough run of fixtures over the festive period.

They also chat about the recent change in shape to 3-5-2, and what it might mean for The Gas' transfer business next month.

And we look ahead to this weekend's home game with Bristol Rovers, and which players could come in to make a difference on home turf.

We read your emails to discuss odd food at football and our ever-popular Who Are You feature looks back at a former Wanderers star who was instrumental in the creation of Total Football in the Netherlands.

IT’S the last weekend of the regular season and The Buff is here once more to get you all excited for the play-offs.

Wanderers head to Bristol Rovers for a last game that may (or may not) matter, and by Sunday afternoon we will all know whether the semi-final will be against Sheffield Wednesday or Barnsley. We might even know what day the game will be played on, provided there are no more unnecessary changes.

It has been a big week of headlines in The Bolton News and we have seen Conor Bradley sweep the board at the end-of-year awards.

James Trafford has confirmed he’s definitely off – and we explain why we wish him all the best.

Marc and Henry wonder what surprises are in store in Bolton’s finances this summer and what Big Sam will do at Leeds United after his surprise return to management.

We have your emails, a check up on The Buff’s Fantasy League table and, of course, the preview to beat all previews as Wanderers travel to the Memorial Stadium.

It’s first not last, and not surpassed. It’s The Buff.

    A CHAT WITH: Nathan Ellington

    A CHAT WITH: Nathan Ellington

Its Duke on Duke! Jack spoke with former Gas striker Nathan "The Duke" Ellington, as they looked back on his career and time at the club.

Coming to Rovers from non-league Nathan made a huge impact at Rovers. Playing alongside Gas greats such as Cureton and Roberts he talks about how much he learned from all the players he played along side. A trait he continued throughout his career as he went up the leagues.

He is most remembered for scoring a hat-trick against Derby in a 3-1 win in 2002. This was the first time a team from the Third Division had beaten a Premier League team in the FA Cup. He was named PFA Division Three team of the year for 2001–02.

He talks about his life after Rovers, moving on to eventually play in the Premier League. He talks about his spells at Wigan and how difficult it can be for a player in contract negotiations.

They also talk about his conversion to Islam in 2005. How team mates treated him differently and requests to shave off his beard.

In 2011, he set up the Association of Muslim Footballers, whose purpose is to provide a network for Muslim players and families, highlighting the positive Muslim role models within the professional game and working to improve relationships between players of other beliefs.

    A CHAT WITH: Trevor Challis

    A CHAT WITH: Trevor Challis

In the words of Brenda, from Bristol, “YER JOKING, ANOTHER ONE?!”.

This time Jack spoke to Trevor ‘Poison’ Challis to discuss the massive highs and massive lows of his five year Rovers career which spanned from 1998 to 2003.

Trevor played under Ian Holloway, Garry Thompson, Gerry Francis and Ray Graydon. He speaks favourably about the start of his time at The Gas but as the team’s form dipped and the stars of the late 90’s left, things became very different.

We discuss what went wrong in that infamous 99/00 season, how good that squad was, what Holloway was like, the player exodus, 00/01’s relegation and being managed by Gerry Francis and later Ray Graydon, as well temporary spells from Garry Thompson. There’s also special mentions for Derby away in the F.A. Cup and Everton in the League Cup. Challis also faced some listener questions.

    Alfie Kilgour
In this episode, we spoke to Gashead and centre-back Alfie Kilgour on his career so far and how he worked his way into the heart of the Rovers defence - we reflect on Alfie's development, including a huge injury he faced at an early stage in his career. We also discuss how happy he is to make his family proud, and his advice for the youngsters developing as he did.

    Alex Rodman and Luke Leahy

    Alex Rodman and Luke Leahy

As this is the beginning of In Close Quarters, it felt fitting to talk in-depth about the start of both Leahy and Rodman's careers, having both made their name playing non-league football, but with vastly different routes through the game. We also spoke about Rodman's business-centred family, his love for golf, and his time with an awful haircut. Luke Leahy reflected on his time as Falkirk, how his move to Rovers materialised and how he became a left-back.
