    Another Grab Bag

    Another Grab Bag

Episode 234: It's time for another Grab Bag episode -- Joe and Kari are taking listener suggestions (as well as their own suggestions to each other) to discuss some songs that just didn't fit into any other episodes. Thanks to listener Wes for his suggestion on Contemporary Christian artists in the 80's. Steve Taylor and The 77s had some very interesting songs, thank G**! And Joe and Kari also discuss a couple of forgotten gems that deserve a listen from Starpoint and The Look

Just a Bit Outside: Two more songs that hit the Hot 100 (but did not earn a spot in the coveted Top 40) -- this time the singles are from 2 very different rock bands, The Knack and Winger. Did they deserve to chart higher?

    The Secret Policeman’s Third Ball

    The Secret Policeman’s Third Ball

Episode 221: This episode is inspired by another recent Kari find at the record store (she is on a roll!). Have you heard of the Secret Policeman's Ball? It's okay if you haven't because it's a secret! The UK fundraiser for Amnesty International dates back to 1976, but the 1987 event put a focus on music, and featured performances from Kate Bush, Joan Armatrading, Duran Duran, and Bob Geldof, among others. Joe and Kari discuss those performances, as well as those from Erasure, Nik Kershaw and Mark Knopfler.

Finally, the QUIZ continues -- find out who ends up on top after the next round!!

Even though the great XTC is no more, original drummer Terry Chambers is taking that memorable music on the road with his new band EXTC.  With the blessing of the other members of XTC, fans are getting their dose with Terry and his great band. (And if that's not enough, EXTC is planning on writing and recording new music!)

We cross genres and decades here with picks from David Bowie, Love, Neu!, Arrested Development, Smashing Pumpkins and Doves.

Min tone i livet: Signe Trøst Jørgensen - Suede, Trash
THIS ROCKS! Spice Girls 25th Anniversary: Where Is ‘Girl Power’ In 2021?

25 years ago the Spice Girls exploded onto the global pop music scene with their first of many hits Wannabe, bringing to the world the concept of 'girl power' and a whole lot of fun for their fans.

But after all this time, where does the concept of 'girl power' sit in 2021, and what has happened to all those young people who saw themselves represented in Scary, Sporty, Ginger, Baby and Posh?

The Quicky speaks to an entertainment and celebrity journalist, and an expert in gender to consider what impact the Spice Girls had on feminism, and where their legacy stands today.

Steve Cradock (OCS, Weller) / Kitten Pyramid

Whatcha. This week I’m joined by one of my teenage guitar heroes Steve Cradock. Steve is the guitarist in Ocean Colour Scene, as well as frequently working with Paul Weller, and more recently playing lead for The Specials. He’s just reissued his second solo record “Peace City West” with a new mix.

Also joining me is Scott Milligan, the brains behind Burton prog-poppers Kitten Pyramid. There’s a new Kitten Pyramid album out now called “Koozy” and it’s a triumph over absurdity; funny, sad, and bizarre. Scott takes me through it, track by track.
