Broken Beat aka Bruk Session on House Radio Digital Take 7

Vad händer på en ort med 6.000 invånare när den största arbetsplatsen lägger ner och 185 personer blir utan jobb. Det hände i Robertsfors, ett gammalt brukssamhälle i Västerbotten.

185 jobb i Robertsfors motsvarar 30 000 jobb i Stockholm och besvikelsen och oron var stor i Robertsfors när beskedet kom 2014.

-Man kände sig sviken av företaget,  säger Jenny-Ann Lindgren. Det var jobbigt, konstaterar hon. Jag var i den åldern att det är svårt att hitta ett nytt jobb. Jag var ny på arbetsmarknaden men kroppen var inte ny.

- Många som förlorade sina jobb när Element Six la ner hade jobbat på fabriken i hela sitt vuxna liv, berättar Olle Norberg näringslivsstrateg i kommunen. De hade aldrig tidigare sökt ett jobb.

Robertsfors är inte ensamt. Sedan 1990 har ca 300 000 jobb inom tillverkningsindustrin försvunnit samtidigt har nya jobb kommit till inom servicesektorn men de jobben har vuxit fram i storstadsområdena medans industrinedläggelsen drabbat mindre orter i landet. Det säger Rikard Eriksson, professor i kulturgeografi vid Umeå universitet.

Alla trodde att arbetslösheten skulle stiga kraftigt i Robertsfors. För ett år sen kartlade Ingrid Hanke, f.d. ordförande för Metall på Element Six, hur det gått för If Metalls 109 medlemmar. 92 hade jobb, åtta hade gått i pension eller var på väg att gå i pension, och nio personer var arbetslösa.

I was motivated to do this by the Tatham, Mensah, Lord & Ranks release, the fact that it's been a while since I've made a mix, and a rainy day in Los Angeles, This was randomly put together, i.e. no predetermined concept or order. Travelling deep down through Dub and way up high into some great Reggae Rockers, as well as some great Dancehall tracks, this episode has a little bit of it all.

Reggae as a whole has been one of the single most influential genres in music. One of the largest fusions is Reggae,Ska/Rock. One may associate many the SoCal "Surfer/Stoner" rock with this style, with groups like Pepper, 311, Sublime, Long Beach Dub Allstars, The Expendables etc.. This episode is jam packed with Reggae Rock Fusion as well as a touch of dub and dancehall, so sit back relax and enjoy.

The title is a tribute to champions; a doff of the hat to legacy builders and those who leave awe and inspiration for us both in the here and now and after they've left this earth. It's not easy compiling a broken beat mix in today's musical climate. Few are making it like they used to and there's no dedicated regular nights to showcase any new music, which is fine I guess, Because people aren't producing it (well I definitely ain't hearing it. Though Kaidi & Mark Force say there are holding).
