Approaching the Buddhist Path 47 - Proper Practice

Approaching the Buddhist Path 47 - Proper Practice

The Way of Compassion Dharma Center's spiritual director, John Bruna, discusses the topic of blessings in Tibetan Buddhism. He speaks about how blessings are received through the dependent origination of teachings of Holy beings and our practice. John tells some stories of his teachers and how they have guided him to understand that one main way we receive blessings is through the teachings of the Buddhas that lead to release from suffering. This episode was recorded on July 26th, 2023.

Welcome to the Way of Compassion Dharma Center Podcast. Located in Carbondale, Colorado, the Way of Compassion Dharma center's primary objective is to provide programs of Buddhist studies and practices that are practical, accessible, and meet the needs of the communities we serve.  As a traditional Buddhist center, all of our teachings are offered freely. Wellness Wednesday Vancast: Thriving With R.A.I.N.

Wellness Wednesday Vancast: Thriving With R.A.I.N.

#199  Today is Wednesday, time for a little wellness boost – a shortened episode to help keep your Warrior Vibe high.

This show is a Walking the Talk Vancast, a portable episode that’s informal and casual, recorded on the go from wherever Kathy finds herself on the day of recording.

Kathy’s on the road, heading home from a cross country trip, recording vancasts for future episodes.  She’s sharing a practice called R.A.I.N. that’s helpful when navigating life challenges and difficult emotions.

Kathy then invites you to experiment with R.A.I.N. by walking you through the four-step process.  If you’ve been looking for a new method to help you work through difficult situations and emotions, this is the episode for you!

Digital Detox By Staying In A Japanese Temple

Digital Detox By Staying In A Japanese Temple

A very Happy New Years from the Breakfast With Tiffany Show! This is our first episode for this year 2023 and we have Tiffany share what she has been up to during the holidays up in the frosty Higashi Hiroshima at the Temple Aki Kokubunji for almost a week and the upcoming Digital Detox retreat in spring!
So stay tuned to the transformative events that we have lined up this year for the Zenscape Wellness Retreat programs.
Our reviewer this week says that there is something about this podcast that helps them learn and grow as a person everyday.
Such a lovely comment and we are so glad to know that what Tiffany is trying to achieve on this platform is uplifting our avid listeners.
Going back to the topic, we learn that Tiffany had visited this temple last year as well, with a lovely buddhist family that welcomed her with so much hospitality.
During this time, Tiffany had a Digital Detox, which means she unplugged from her social media for the time she was at the temple. She reflects on how much change she has felt over the years, and the benefits from taking such a break.
And lastly, we find out that Tiffany got to return back to her routine of waking up early due to the temple's morning chants at 6am in the morning.

Thank you again for tuning in and do not forget to share with us what your goals are and your word for this year is!
And as we say here in Japan,  “Kotoshi mo Yoroshiku Onegaishimasu!”
    今年もよろしくお願いします。

Lessons Learned from Hector Marcel: You Have One Job

Lessons Learned from Hector Marcel: You Have One Job

After spending time with Hector Marcel, one of my biggest takeaways was the sense of being in the presence of someone who is joyfully in his practice.  This overall feeling of sharing a space with a person who is willing to discuss the challenges we face with impermanence and suffering and who like the rest of us continues to work with the rising and ceasing of sadness or loneliness or joy. But approaches it with exuberance and hope.

Hector wants us all to be able to draw upon our Buddhist practice to understand the source of our own suffering. To recognize that when sadness or loneliness or even happiness arise, these emotions have come from our own creation.

The Buddha could not make anyone become enlightened. And Hector cannot make us understand and adopt the teachings.

I cannot force you to make friends with death. We each must do the work ourselves. In the past I have said, there is no magic no-suffering silver bullet.  What we can do is work on who and how we are.

    Is Buddhist Practice Like Therapy?

    Is Buddhist Practice Like Therapy?

In this episode, we talked about the relationship between Buddhism and psychotherapy. Do they compliment each other? Is meditation a replacement for therapy? We invite guests Sensei Alex Kakuyo, Barry Magid and Gesshin Claire Greenwood to chat with us on how Buddhism fits into psychotherapy, both in the mental health setting as well in self help formats. Feel free to join the dialogue by tuning in.
